I say its time to increase the skills to 800 per character.

I say its time that we increase the skill cap level to 800. Trying to make a thrower gargoyle is very agitating to do and put in a defensive ability along with a form of healing for my gargoyle. The advantage of throwing was allowing use of parry like with bows you could use potions.

But in order to make throwing even the equal of archery requires swordsmanship in case the opponent gets close to you to reduce the penalty of the defensive measure of a melee skill. You have to also have tactics along with parry just to make it even out with archery. Requiring 200 more points already eats up 460 points. Leaving precious little when you need spell resistance as an archer/thrower to counter the the high mana costs of our specials against the mages that go around vamp spamming people in pvp.

If they wish to tie so many secondary requirements to skills that is fine. It would help alot of the lesser played cramped templates catch up to the abc archer/sampire/whammy necro combos if they considered upping the skill limit to 800.

If anything, the skill cap should be lowered to 600. Tough choices should always have to be made and creatures should be harder to take down.

I say it's time for you to STFU.

800 skill points? Seriously? What kind of template are you building that you CANT fit in 720 points?

Just because UO has more skills, does not mean it has to increase its skill cap. Increasing the skill cap to 800 will cause a LARGE AMOUNT OF HEADACHES! Allowing players 80-100 more skill points will bring even MORE gimp templates out that 90% of us can't even fathom at the moment.

    No more skill points.

    Shut up.

    Go home.

    Deal with it.

Those of us who know how to work within the cap are doing just fine. Work within the cap, and stop dreaming. Thanks.

With imbuing you could put 100 extra skill points on jewellery easily, my sampire has 779 skill points on his template.

Throwing's broken, and adding 100 more skill points isn't going to fix it.

You have to fix Throwing to fix Throwing.

    I believe that's called "being a fisherman".

For a 500 point cap, be a treasure hunter.
  16. i agree with this, if they bring back derived skill from stats like before AOS. the human JOT trait could then just be a greater magnitude of this.

I don't know about any of you but don't you get the feeling that when trying out to make a gargoyele with the new skills it seems that the skills were intended to use the gargoyele earrings and necklass slots for +skill items. Then when they removed the abilitie to make those slots like ring and bracelet and convert to armor slots they kindoff forgot to modify the new skills to reflect that?

Um ... I don't believe that an "end" can be decreed.

Even if our group-think here on U.Hall comes to a conclusion, that doesn't mean that we're the majority of all players or that we're right.

(don't get me wrong, I'm in the 720 camp - I'd even like to see +skill items nerfed - but I think it's important to remember that no matter what our opinions, we aren't the decision makers)

I say 720 skill points is just fine and I could relatively easily adapt to 600, too.

I think if one is unable to make a viable character with the available 720 skill points plus whatever the max amount of +skill items adds, then simply adding more points with which to play is unlikely to solve one's problem.

I have legitimate faction kills on a character who had until yesterday 200 skill points devoted to herding & lockpicking.

    More is not necessarily better.

    800? No Way!!

This would fall into the exact category of why I stopped playing WoW and came back to UO.

Level you characters and get them ready for battle. Obtain uber gear. One month after getting uber gear. Raise level cap to 70. Grind ALL characters to 70. Obtain uber gear. One month later. Raise level cap to 80. Sigh... Grind ALL characters to 80. Get uber gear. Now another instance with better gear? Oh...now we are going to 85?

One of the greatest things about UO is that if I take a break from playing I can relax knowing that my characters will still be viable when I return. I believe this to be a BIG part of why UO has been around for 12 years.

There are far better things to do in UO to enhance this game and reward the players that have been so loyal to it.

I do fine in pvp without spell resistance; I use enchanted apples, trap boxes, petals, pots, jewel swapping, and etc...

I think it actually makes UO more fun with cramped templetes because it creates a whole diversity of templetes rather than clones of each other. So in the end it may come down to strategy, practice, and quick finger movement rather than items or skills, and I like that.

There are those who can already solo peerless, imagine what they can do with 80+ skills? Contrary to popular belief, after examining many of these good players, I notice they don't always need all 120's to get the job done, I have been already surprised with what some can to do with 100 tame, 100 tactics, 100 lore, 100 bushido, or etc...

I'm guessing this has become a hot topic because some new skills were added with the SA expansion. But in my opinion, no, it's a horrible idea. The current system is fine the way it is. I'd also be perfectly happy to see it lowered to 600/620.

I'd like to see more skill points too =) Have wanted to since I first started playing. Dunno about 800, I just know I want more - maybe more character slots instead would suit me? 720 may be enough for some people, but not everyone has 720 skill points, I don't.

No offense, but why do you need swordsmanship for the defense? As far as I know the equation for bush parry is

    (Bushido x 10) x (parry x 10) / 41140 for using a 2 handed weapon...

Swords is not required. In fact, going be stratics, it doesn't say you require a sword at all, just a 1 or 2 handed weapon...

So unless stratics is wrong... wielding a throwing weapon with 120 bush/parry would give you defense chance.

  45. UOKaiser

Ok fine no skill point increase but I want it be like before. I want the old gm skill powers back. 100 gm was the same strengh as 120 before power scrolls came out. So I propose to get rid of 120 all toghether and give gm skill it's old power back.
  46. mjolnir131

    mjolnir131 Guest

i just figured out why 800, 5x legendary in todays game is not unreasonable unlike the lowering of skills idea. It's a sign of growth. and they have kept there promise about 120 mot replacing gm you can have a 7x gm char and suck up aginst the same monsters as before.
  47. UOKaiser

    UOKaiser Guest

I wish they did kept there promise but they didn't, Different groups of dev modified different things to make gm as strong as maybe 80 was before they implement 120 skills. No wonder why it's mostly useless to have skills at 80 or anything under gm. Reason why people see that skills mean alot less than items. Powered up old monsters weakend old gm skills requirement of certain skills to use other skills etc.. Made a 120 a requirement to be as strong as what a gm was before the 120 came to be.
120 was alot stronger in the beggining and a 7xgm was as strong and versitile as a 6xlegendary is today. We essentialy lost 100 skill points between all the different devs and publishes. I want them back. I want to walk around with my 7xgm and be confident I can do the same things as back in the days. 120 skills were made to be a enhancement not a requirement.

700(720) skill points is plenty. You just need to learn to balance the template right. 800 or more would make it way too easy to make incredibly over-powered chars.

Actually, prior to SA I would say no to this, but now with the need to seriously juggle skills to be decently viable in several areas, I would go for a moderate cap increase.

Another poster stated perhaps 750? I think that would help enough at the moment if that could be done. Add 4+ YO bonuses that gives a possible 770.
