I wish wrestling was more...

    I wish wrestling was more effective... I wanted to mess around and play a "monk." Someone who used his hands and hand to hand combat when he needs too but also be a healer and philosopher... I understand the limitations of this particular char but I thought if wrestling was more effective in hand to hand (say with ninjitsu and nunchucks) and such...I just dont think macing and swords should be forced upon me if I want to use certain weps...

    Guess my weariness of UO is showing. I want to try and play different styles I guess.

    I wish it was a major skill like magery archery swordsmanship etc. .. Not a spellbook, but you get a book of wrestling moves, to use on what your wrestling(killing). The higher your wrestling skill is the better your wrestling moves would be to wrestle (kill) high end monsters. Tactic, and Atonomy will also give your wrestling a boost.

    I wonder if the issue is finding a way to do something like this without over-powering wrestle mages rather easily.

    Edit: A few things occur to me. One, is wrestling already sufficiently powered from a purely defensive perspective? Two, last time I tried it, Lightning Strike worked with JOAT Wrestling, so shouldn't it work with actually having wrestling? Three, engaged in combat with, say, a skeletal dragon, I should think that even a Shaolin Monk is likely to use a weapon. Four: What about the Ninjitsu moves? Do they work with wrestling? Would any of them be of any use?

    They could counter that some by having any spellslinging skill counter some of the Wrestling damage. You only get full Wrestling damage output if your training is fully physical, no spellcasting at all.

    It's pretty simple really just bring back the ability to actually target the special moves while casting.... This is something that should have never been removed at least with the wrestling skill.

    At its current state it's useless if you try to disarm someone then you're not casting to keep your self alive.

    Spiked, Conan Spear point, resin coated in broken glass or palm claw gloves. Sneek in a stone glove in red also. Item with weapon specials and resist that go in theweapon slot as a two hander. Would have to code in a way to block the armor hand slot if worn. Or vice versa.

    Weve been asking for brass knuckles for years, they said it will never happen. Wrestling is still the best support for a mage in this age of dex monkeys.

    I'd love to see the base damage output boosted to that of skinning knives and daggers. It's sad that a haven zombie can hit harder than my 'monk' without di jewels.

    I'd love to see the base weapon speed of Wrestling dropped down to 2.0 Seconds... I'm pretty sure it's listed as 2.25 which isn't the case as I have a 45% HCI, 5% SSI Focused Wrestling mage and was disappointed to notice that the base swing is ACTUALLY 2.5 seconds. I also wouldn't be opposed to Making the Wrestling Stun effective either.... as it is it's pointless bc everyone carries a Tbox (not that it's not pointless with weapons, but it's definitely harder to deliver let alone time it in a useful fashion with a spell combo). I've pretty much come to the conclusion that a my wrestling page should just be a parry mage 1) bc the para is pointless & 2) because Sure... Disarm is effective but bc your removing ALL chance of a dexxer damaging you they just RUN at that point. I find that withi parry your not removing ALL chance your just decreasing the odds of them hitting you so it's actually MORE effective than a disarm in a lot of situations. The dexxer just attemps to hit you and fails & eats a full combo to die heh. (Allows them a BAD judgement death very often heh)

    I have a thief character that has ninja/wrestle and though I cant kill anyone with him, not many can kill me either unless they gank. There is nothing better than stealthing up and snooping someones pack, stealing a +20 powerscroll, and popping them with stun or disarm after they attack you while you turn into wolf form and disappear back into the shadows.

    The alchemical arms of devastation are handy for a wrestler too.

    All in all wrestle sucks but on the right character it can be quite fun.

    I'd like wrestling (martial arts?) to have a much higher base damage because I'd like to have a character that could have a fist fight with a daemon or ogre lord. It is impossible right now because of the very low base damage that limits me to 'slapping' the target for 1 hp each swing.

    while i agree wrestling should do more damage.... to people.

    i dont think anyone would run up to a Dragon or a Daemon in real life and punch them.
    well, they could, but lets be realistic, they would soon be getting a guided tour of the Dragons lower digestive tract.

    (did i just say realistically you wouldn't punch a dragon? so my basic argument is that you wouldn't punch a fictional animal but rather use a weapon, jesus i need to stop playing this game and get outside a little more!)

    If a tamer can get a dragon to be a pet by saying "will you be my friend?" then I should be able to bust a dragon in the nose. There have been many MMO's out there that allow for fist weapons/bare hands to be just as effective in bringing down mobs as any other weapon.

    I played a game called Gemstone 4 which had barehand combat and punch weapons, your ability to do damage fell off has the size difference between you and your opponent started getting significant. A 60' Gemstone Storm Giant isn't even going to really notice a human punch. Nor would a UO dragon. A few feet of sword going in might reach something important, a tap on the skin or scale, no. :)

    It may just sit and be entertained by what you say, after all, your so small and barely a decent mouthful. As you babble away it may decide to amuse itself and do as you say to see what fun comes of it. I mean think about it. Would an obedient loyal pet just suddenly stand there when it's supposed to be guarding you and watch in amusement as some monster chases you around biting you? And just ignore you at other times. :p

    No worries dragons don't eat humans, because they don't want to choke on their bones. They might try roasting ya chasing you around nipping at ya, but thats all. So its all good :D

    UO (pvp) took a big hit in diversity when they disabled special move toggling while casting/holding spells.

    I guess pvp needed more gimpass wrestlemages holding something in their hands while casting spells and disarming a 2 handed weapon out of a warriors hands at basically the same time. Of course the mage doing all this with minimal dexterity also made perfect sense. Wouldnt want to have to mess with the mages gigantic mana pool now would we?

    If thats your idea of diversity I think I will pass.

    My idea of diversity would be the amount of viable templates there use to be, compared to what we have now.

    Uhm... what? that's ridiculous. wrestle mage wouldn't be holding any weapons. not to mention, a warrior using a 2h wep? :facepalm:

    beginning to wonder if there are any experienced pvpers left in UO...


    Minimal Dexterity huh, well considering you could use a 2s swing speed weapon with 40 ssi on your suit and be 1.25 speed, why the hell do you have more than 10 dex in the first place?

    you know the dexer template right now? Nerve/DS+DP. are likely 10-40 dex... sorry but you act like it's going to destroy something...


    It's funny that you mention the Mages gigantic mana pool. btw dexers often have just as much mana now-a-days as any given mage.

    dexers don't spend mana on every single little damaging attack like mages do either...so I guess I'm missing your point?

    I never said a thing about mages holding a weapon. I specifically said "something in their hands"

    Mages were able to hold a spellbook or shield while toggling stun or disarm special and casting spells. It was a complete joke that the devs finally figured out and corrected.

    It has absolutely nothing to do with template diversity btw. When you ask for anything in the name of supposed template diversity it means that you have no other actual valid reasons or argument. A child knows this.

    And FYI: Warriors do pvp with 1 and 2 handed weapons. If you were ever actually pvping you would know this. But my point was ofc not specifically about 2 handed weapons. It was merely that it made even less sense that a mage could stun/para,cast spells,and take a 2 handed weapon away from a warrior all the while holding a spellbook in his hands.

    and second, that is a valid reason, and uhm, the only reason needed?... *sigh*

    When there are almost no tank/mages, absolutely no necro-dexers (pvp) very few chiv-dexers it's because none of them can toggle specs while casting, it's been better to be one or the other, not both since publish 46.

    The same goes for Wrestling (Anatomy is better btw) as well, people who have wrestling use it so they can't be disarmed and hit every single time... it's not because of the specials... like have you played UO before?


    but no one can toggle specials & cast/hold spells at the same time? <-- worst change in the history of UO-PvP. One step above publish 77's Faction changes.

    Yea man, clearly a joke the devs finally corrected. (Killing pvp, is not correcting it.)

    Maybe they should look into fixing trapped boxes next? :eek:

    You forgot the part where they can also fizzle their spells. And if you even mention protection or cant kill a mage who is in protection you should just stop pvping...

    But hey you play a "THROWER" who has a one handed/ranged weapon with the highest base damage in the game on it to boot for one handers and it has THREE specials - Para Blow, Dismount, and Moving Shot..... Combined with soul glaive for AI & Mortal CAN YOU GET ANYMORE GIMP? two weapons with AWESOME SPECIALS!!!!

    I dunno know of a guy that nearly wrestled Rend to death... course he had half a dozen healer.....and hours to work on it...

    I always thought Wrestling was a waste of skill points. Shame they can't fix it somehow. I like the idea of stone gloves But then there would be no gargish Wrestlers.... but maybe that's ok.

    I don't cast protection... I clearly said if you have problems killing a mage in prot then you're bad. I was simply pointing out the fact that a mage can be disrupted and I figured your reply to that would be you can cast prot which is dumb.

    Mages should be able to toggle wrestling special moves while casting.

    In theory, maybe...

    But in actual gameplay when toggling that Wrestling special move means being able to continually take away a warriors primary means of offense they should not. Its quite obviously too much of an easy crutch for the Mage.

    Dexxers also don't have 100% hit chance like Mages do.

    I can tell you exactly what would happen if they made specials toggleable while casting again. There would be no PvP diversity, all you'd see would be Thrower/Mages casting Curse and Spell Plague, then Exp+FS+AI (Soul Glaive with Hit Lightning)+Trigger Bombard. Going from 100% health to dead in 2 secs once they set up the Curse+Spell Plague. Archer/Mages were pretty notorious for insta killing people with Exp+FS+AI back before they made specials untoggleable during spellcasting.

    ... you realize, the reason "Archer-Mages" were notorious for insta-killing people in said combo, was because AI wasn't capped at 35 like it is now... so, yea, there was a huge difference between 35 & 60 damage AIs.

    what's next?

    I've been over this many times, I'll tell you the only thing that could really be viewed as negative, that would comeback if specs became toggle-able while casting spells again, it's Holding Wall of Stone and stun-punching to cross-field people in.

    That is all.
