If the devs still exist.....

Could we have some response to these questions please?

a) Why are payouts so low? I've heard its to stop botters, but that makes no sense...
even if payouts for money items were reduced to 1 simolean each it would still mean that a botter would make probably 3 times as much per day as a players using money items. They would still be 3 times as wealthy and wouldn't stop them in the least. It doesnt matter if payouts are 1 simolean or 10k, its the differential of what they can earn through botting as opposed to everyone else that matters to them. All low payouts are doing botting wise is making simoleans more valuable. Which is what the botters want anyway right?

b) why is it so expensive to buy lots, build & decorate?
I heard that the devs want to drain money out of the game.... What better drain is there than building? People used to spend a great portion of their money building which drained it from the system as houses were never good investments. Now with the costs involved in building its prohibitive to the majority of players. Most people are holding onto their money because they cant afford to buy a house or remodal it if they are lucky enough to own one. Therefore, if the idea of high building costs was to drain money from the game, its extremely counter productive.

c) why can we no longer buy things from the catalogue? Again, anything that is purchased loses value immediately, and therefore is a money drain. Why are we not allowed to spend our megre money supply on items purchased from the catalogue?

d) what exactly is happening with the game? The previous version died through lack of updates..... no new clothes, pets, skills. housing categories.....nothing new to keep us interested. Now, instead of bringing in new things to entice people to join & stay, it seems that you are going the other way, making pet pulling, building etc prohibitive, taking away casinos, leaving us with no money and precious little to do other than skill to make this more than a simple chatroom
Were you not around to realise that the game lost customers due to lack of updates? Yes, theres Custom content, but this really doesnt compensate for all you've taken out of the game for most people.
New pets, clothes, furniture, interactions, skills, money items etc is what most people want and have done since about 2004.
Please could you let us know if these things are on the agenda?
I mean....how difficult would it be to introduce different catalogue items for instance? or pets?
A new skill might be more difficult to introduce, but the level of interest something like that would generate would keep almost all players interested in the game and that surely is whats needed? All the time that is now being spent on (ummm..... we're not really sure what you're doing right now as we get no updates on it) whatever you're doing could have been spent on introducing things that would keep the game exciting.
I hope that thats what you're secretly doing, but i would think if thats the case, then you would want us to know that these exciting innovations are on their way at some point.
Please please could you let us know what the grand scheme is? At the moment, people are losing confidence in whats going on, not understanding the reasoning behind the way the game is moving.
Please, a little explanation is really needed here.

Wow, excellent post. It won't be a very popular one though I'm afraid. I came back because it was advertised as all new and updated. Boy was I surprized when I came back in and it really was the same darn thing except for CC.

Everyone keeps saying "wait" it will get better or the Devs are working their asses off for us. As Jammybob said there has hardly been new items since beta days and now they've taken away money, building and cataloge buying. For those of you who say its more challenging I certainly will agree with you there. I don't know how much one tile is but I did hear one of the posts being $600. I don't know about you, but if I have to take months to build my house piece by peice then I don't find that challenging I find it boring and frustrating.

I will keep my account untill amnesty and see what happens then but for right now I don't even log into the game.

One more thing...It is harder to make friends now too because all that is left is skilling and everyone is AFK while they do that.

I'm sure that there are a handful of people that feel completely different but if you tally up the posts here you will find that many more people are disapointed, frustrated and have quit or already have. You can say, fine quit if you don't like it but if we're gone the game will be gone. Deep down inside no matter how you try to sugarcoat this we all know this game will be gone or will just stay the same. Sad really because it could of been so much more.

I'm thinking IF they still exist AND are still assigned to this game, they better speak up real soon. I just read in another thread.... counted 13 accounts closed, most of them founders.

Funny how I posted being concerned with the lack of communication just a few weeks ago, and got jumped all over for it too. Funny how the mods here can put down posts complaining about things but they aren't allowed to agree with us. Funny how this all feels like dejavu from a few years ago, you remember when all updates ceased and communication was nil. Funny how I get the feeling the 90 day notice may be the only communication we see. I hope that feeling I'm getting is wrong, but since we aren't likely to get any answers other than from over zealous worshipers who will make every excuse they can think of, the feeling looms darker by the day.

Those zealous worshipers jump on everyone who doesn't have the same "yay, this game is going to be so great, you'll see." attitude. I think we as TSO founders said the very same thing. Ironic I think.

For all of you that think CC is great, think again. Most players aren't going to want to figure out how to do CC and the only way it's worth it is to sell it so all we'll have is stores. Since that is basically the only thing that has been added to the game, I doubt many newbies will stay long due to the lack of being able to make money and build. Also, having to clear out my CC cache everytime is getting to be in a pain in the butt. Usually I remember after I've logged in and can't see anything. This is just the beginning. What is going to happen if there ends up being thousands and thousands of CC in the game. For those of you that will say have you tried making CC? Yes, I have and I can do it but I didn't come back to the game to play outside the game.

At first about 2 or 3 weeks ago I was thinking that they were probably working on amnesty or something else along with that but lately with each day passing im getting more and more discouraged myself....if april 30th/may 1-5 rolls around and there is not a shred of communication much less a blog feed I too am gonna start rethinking why I sink 30 bucks into the game a month and that may not sound like a lot to most of you but it is if your also a college student on the side. I love the game and have been there much longer then most people here (xmas of 02) but if they are gonna promise us something and set a date (yes they set a date read the fine print) then im gonna probably join the club like most of us here and slowly ease out of game...because that would be the icing on the cake...all most of us want is just something....updates in the blog feed would be all most of us would need...hell its officially been two weeks today since anything new was posted on tsomania and that was about the botters

In a nutshell...great post

A simple paragragh would go along way into easing concerns...going into hiding because of one reason or another is NOT the way to keep accts and add new ones if indeed that is still the goal

CntryGrl, I have the same feeling: deja vu... I'm having a lot of trouble trying to figure out why they're so quiet... sure, some of the people here will give the line "well, all you do is complain, I wouldn't let people know what I'm working on either then, blah blah blah".... however, if a company (EA) wants to keep it's customers, they will keep them informed, not to mention that is the professional thing to do... I am getting the feeling, stronger each day, that this game is done, over, gone, finished... the Dev's are doing a job (ermmm, if they're still doing the job for EALand is beyond me)... so fine, if you really are working on the game, let us know what exactly you're working on... and yes, I feel it's my right as a paying customer to be kept informed as to what you are doing... after all, you already have all of us paying to play beta...

I think they made a total trainwreck of this game when they made it so you can only earn so many simoleons (fine, it's only in TC3, but it's coming to EALand, well, if there continues to be an EALand)... I don't play anymore... I'm a founder, I have left the game a few times but came back... my last time I quit I was gone for 1-1/2 years.... this time when I leave will be final... I'm already playing another game anyway, a game that actually has goals and things to do, and it's... READ THIS EA: this other game is FUN!!!

I'm waiting for amnesty... if things don't improve after that, and quick, my last account will be closed...

So CntryGrl, I applaud you for your post, you are right-on, sister.

That's not necessarily true, for one simple reason. All premium players get 8 sims in EA Land and 6 sims in TC3. Even if every single one of those accounts has a store lot in both cities, that still leaves the potential for 12 other slots that can own houses, and the land price in TC3 is approximately a third of what it is in EA Land, so the potential exists at least for that city to grow and prosper as people work toward their various sims having different lots so that they can diversify their interests. I know that is one thing I always wished we had the ability to do in the production cities....to own different kinds of lots in the same city without having to have multiple multiple accounts to do it. For just that reason, I don't believe the other categories besides stores will die out the way your posts implies that you believe.

[/ QUOTE ]The last time we had a "communication blackout", it started slowly, with communication slowing down and becoming more terse. This one, however, was abrupt. We went from frequent sightings on the boards and blog posts nearly every day to total silence in nothing flat.

I think this is far, far bigger than any indignation toward negative posts. I have absolutely no idea what it is, and I'm not even going to try to speculate. Speculation leads to rumors, and nothing good ever comes of that. And even if I did, I'm not sure whether to be excited or sad. The only thing I have any kind of certainty about right now is that we'll find out one way or the other in not too long.

the devs still exist and the game would not be unplugged. I HIGHLY doubt that they work all this time and put this much effort to then finally unplug it. If they were going to close it down, why work again on it in the first place? The devs are still working and lately implemented anti-bots measures and the custom appearances ... which means they are still working on it, plus, they have many plans for the future. Not having then communicate much lately does not mean that we will have a lack of communication from now on ... its just they are busy working, or taking a lil vacation (which they have the right to take after all this work) .... many of us have been nothing but negative towards the developers and their work, so maybe they decided to start sharing less with us, only keeping us slightly updated about their current position and announcing any new updates.... we will have to wait and see. If we look at what has happened over the last couple of weeks the main thing I think we would all agree on would be the anti bot measures they put in TC3 for trial.
Two things happened when they did that, firstly they pretty well admitted that it is not just 3rd party programs they are worried about. They did that by stating “bot like activities” and not just botting or 3rd party programs like they have always done in the past.
Also what they did is show us their hand in what they intend for the game.
By releasing the anti bot like measures they have proven to us that they do not intend to let us make over a certain amount of in game cash.
After leading us to believe that payouts will go up when they sort out the botters, I can understand why none of the devs would want to face up in the town hall.
I also think after seeing the reaction to what they have shown us in TC3 they may also be having a serious re think of what needs to be done.
I think we are not hearing much in the blogs because there is simply not much to report.
Most of what is in the works now is not expected to the 30th of the month, and what is expected then involves a fair bit of work.
Combine that with having to find a compromise on the anti bot like measures, then they have their hands full at the moment with what is likely the most important decisions to be made since they started this change in the game.
I do not believe they have given up.
I would rather believe they are having a break to get a fresh new approach to the many problems that have presented themselves.
The reaction from the players is justified and they know that.
There have been some bad moves made that have cost a lot of time and created a lot of problems for both the players and the devs themselves.
I am one that will give praise when praise is due, and have done several times to the devs in this forum.
I am also one that believes in giving a kick in the a.. when that is due also.

My guess is that the developers were pulled off of EAL to work on something else. (perhaps Spore - scheduled for release in early 09 - an EA game geared toward custom content) The suddenness of their silence leads me to think that it was a decision they didn't expect, or anticipate. I hope I'm totally wrong.

Is new custom content being approved?

This wasn't really a "where are you devs" post though. It was an honest attempt to get them to respond to the more baffling questions a lot of us have.
I'm guessing most critics would answer
a) ATMs
b) ATMs
C) ATMs
d) We dont really care about your enjoyment of the game, all we care about are ATMs
I don't want to hear this, I want to hear that there is a grand scheme in place and that these measures have in fact been implimented to achieve something.
I was hoping that the devs would share with us what kind of game they are trying to create here so we could better judge if it will be fun from our own perspective.
I myself have no answers to my questions. There seems little actual sense in some of the things that have gone on. What makes it worse to me is the excuses given for implimenting the changes don't appear to make any sense.
I guess for whatever reason, the devs no longer come here for feedback and therefore are unlikely to answer this thread.
This is a shame as the negativity of most posts here stem directly from lack of knowlegde of what the devs are actually doing. THEY must believe there are valid reasons for the changes they are making in the game, they simply don't think we would understand? or perhaps think we have no right to know?

Claiming that lowering payments is to prevent botting though for instance simply doesnt fly, so I believe they need to come out and be honest with us as to what they are attempting to do here

Isn't it interesting though that you say that TC3 has the potential to grow and prosper. What game do you know of where the testing server supports the game? At this point I can hardly stand to sit and skill one sim I can't imagine having to skill 12. Residential is already dead. I don't know why they even have the Casino category except I think they are too lazy to remove it. We all know that Money houses are going to be few and far between (yes, I'm implying this) because it won't be profitable to own one and who is going to have the money to start a store anyway. There has been no communication on Amnesty or the Lava game. I think the players have every right to be upset. They start this lava game and play two rounds with the second round having a lot of problems. They put out that they are going to change the name of what the cash is called and have heard nothing. THEY implied that if you came back to the game before March 8th then you would get your gifts and skill locks back. Ok, it's April 20th, where are they? THEY implied on March 25th that they would be beginning the Amnesty process. It's now April 20th, where is it? Why am I pissed? Because I came back before March 8th, reactivated my two accounts and have now paid for two months for nothing. Nowhere did it say that free players would get this, so to make sure, I became a paying customer again. Deceiving if you ask me. Yes, I do know that was my choice.

I also want to address those of you that say the developers are working so hard that they need a break or that we are so negative that they don't want to respond. First, this is their job. I don't know how many times I have to point that out. I work in HR and I get pretty sick of my job sometimes too. If I took a break then our employees wouldn't have benefits and I would get FIRED. This line of reasoning for not responding doesn't even make sense. As far as everyone being negative, well that's their fault. If they would communicate then there wouldn't be these posts. We shouldn't have to search for communication. We should find it in our email box or in the game or at least here on the message boards.

"At the townhall today, Greg shared with us some of the stuff he is working on ...

The ability to own more than one property, so that one sim can own either 2 or 3 properties on a paid account.

Being able to set permissions so that friends or other players can open your lot when you are not online

Use of floortiles to set permissions so that other (non roomie) players can set out items on the floor tiles on your lot.

A "doorstop" - ability to have a property open when we are not there or online.

Greg was asked if we could have more bookmarks (great question CountryGirl) and he said he'd look at that. The idea was then expanded so that bookmarks could count across the whole account, rather then just one sim.

Are you seriously telling us that this kind of update would save the game?
What about REAL updates?
All this list is just tinkering with existing gameplay. Nothing radically new that would bring in fresh blood and make the game more exciting.
I hope Gregg is just stating what HE is working on and the other devs have more important updates on their adgenda

Really...nothing radically new?

*Custom Content after five years of begging, is not radical enough?

*12 cities merged into one, is not radical?

*Weekly updates, after almost 3 years of *no* updates, is not radical?

*A complete change of name and logo, and many game play aspects, is not radical?

*Updating the software and dragging the game mechanics from 1998 to the present, with updated graphics ability, is not radical?

*Creating a Developer's Blog and our very own development Wiki, which few (if any) other games have, is not radical?

*Doing all of that with a small (by industry standards for a new game) 18 person team in one year, is not radical?

Not to mention the slightly less dramatic actions of bringing in a bunch of new chairs, increasing the lot visitor limits, creating a motive-free lot category in Residential, implementing dynamic pricing after *years* of talking about it and more than tripling the number of avatars we can make on a single account.

Then we can also ignore the unprecedented communication avenues they have used....creating public lots run by the Dev Team, to discuss/answer gamer's questions and concerns, House of Common talks on Stratics, and the personal game help, given to posters in the Tech forum, discussing game elements and design with actual input from posters on the Wiki.

Yeah, I see your point, these hacks have been total slackers and wasted our very important game time doing nothing REAL...../sarcasm [IMG]

I am sure that every player would have had a different order of priority for game improvements, but that does not in any way, make what they *have* done meaningless, irrelevant or wrong....in fact most of it was necessary just to make *any* changes possible.

Agree or disagree with what has happened, but no can say they have not made radical changes to the game.

There are 18 people working on this game? Wow.

19 if you count Parizad who is *technically* the Community Representative rather than a developer.

The team is listed on the Blog. [IMG]

Actually I meant this post:

Aside from the sims1 list, objects or fun stuff that we have floated or discussed (no particular order) : scriptable custom content (the most important imo), liar's dice, card games (cribbage, old maid, ???), trivia, tournament mode multi-player objects (e.g pizza team vs. pizza team), tournament builder/manager, job objects available and able to be re-skinned (e.g. factory conveyor belt might be useful for the race track), printing press and real newspapers, 'real' tvs (e.g. podcast) and radios (internet radio, standing playlist,...), extreme make over (e.g. change my head), clothes as objects (inventory, reskinning), architecture as objects (inventory, reskinning), mannequins, auction blocks, consignment blocks, for sale signs, calendar, new pets & pet breeding & pet mini-games, and more... including a pointy stick (by request). Many of these came directly or evolved from the game wiki - and there are even more suggestions there.

The priorities we hope to drive to (in order):
1 Entertainment
2 Social
3 Custom Content
4 Economy (objects, currency, skills)

It feels like we've made good progess on 3 & 4 (we aren't done, there is more tweaking needed - refer to 20+ thread regarding 'pools' ) Now we need to double down on one 1 & 2.

And no I wasn't suggesting it would save the game, you said you were interested in hearing about some of the stuff being worked on the future, so I linked to a thread that was doing just that. Apologies for wasting your time.

Much more like it [IMG]
Now if thats the kind of stuff in the pipeline, then I have to applaud.
I just hope that it doesnt come too late.
Unfortunately, i believe 1) & 2) should have been the priorities and if they had developed them, then the effects of 4) would have been more tolerable.
Without money, we NEED entertainment & social updates.
Now if they had introduced new entertainment and THEN invited people back saying "the game is now more fun", then I'm sure they would have had a success on their hands.
