    What would it be?

And it can't be something like "reprogram all the game code from scratch."

Something specific, well, somewhat specific. :)

    Go!

If i could name just one thing though i can think of a lot i would add all power scrolls to Tram, Tokuna, Malas or Ish that way i could get power scrolls without the risk of being pkd or stolen from.

    ...

If it were to be HUGE and EPIC, I would have to choose the "Essences" idea that I fleshed out and posted a good while back.

In a nutshell, instead of finding random magic items on monsters you would find (in MUCH LESS quantity and quality based on T-Map drops as a guide) "essences" which would hold an item mod. The mod would then have to be added onto an item by the appropriate crafter character. More than one Essence would be able to be added and you would be able to increase current essence mods with a higher level essence. In order to keep the number of ultra-high-quality items to a reasonable level, the balancer to the additions would be a difficulty curve as you add more mods and intenisty onto the item (though the fail rate/effect would be a LOT more forgiving than Enhancing).

Items such as armor and weapons would be obtained from two places: Players and NPC vendors and would be of 3 qualities:

Low Quality: sold on vendors and non-exceptional crafted items, would only effectively hold mid-level mods
Exceptional Quality: Exceptional quality items crafted from players, would effectively hold a few high end or several mid level mods
Legendary Quality: Exquisitely crafted items by the finest of crafters that could effectively hold the max number and intensity of mods

The mods themselves would be teired into 5 intenisities (like the original mods system) with a prefix and suffix descriptor inherent.

Prefix and suffix descriptors would be chosen by the item based on the highest two mods present (randomly chosen if more tie for highest mods).

I would decrease the number of servers to consolidate the amount of players and shards. Free shard x-fering for all characters on the shards that will be closed, compensation for the houses that will be lost, and bank boxes will be able to hold unlimited amounts while they transfer over.
Might do the same for every shard to be fair (except Siege and Mugen): Set houses to condemned status, unlimited space for bank boxes for temp., and free x-fer tokens for all character.
Maybe disable housing for temp amount of time.

I'm absolutely not intending to shoot down ideas in the thread, I just wanted to toss out for food for thought that in the similar enchanting system in WOW which exists and sounds just like this, the problem with "normal" vs. "legendary" quality levels is.....t here's only demand for the legendary quality level. So players would speed through the lower skill levels and just sell legendary item enhancements.

I've alwasy been a fan of the "diversification" philosophy rather than the "linear progression" one.. like for instance there always be a tradeoff. It's not kryss vs. Epic Kryss of Leech, but Kryss (low damage high speed) vs. sword (moderate damage moderate speed) vs. ******* sword (low speed high damage). Always a tradeoff, rather than a is less than b is less than c is less than d. Cause then, in an MMO, everyone just wants D.

An epic change but no reprogramming the code huh. Someone other than EA or Mythic who would take control of the game and have some care for it the way other game developers have with their online games. Enough said.

    Good one, lol.

And the change can involve changing code obviously. I just meant no "wipe the entire game and then I want this, this, that, that" and naming some entirely different game.

I would simply go and do what they should have done in 2000. In 2000 they should have divided the servers Having tram and fel on the same server just hurt the game in the long run. PvM changes/Updates=Balance PvP=PvM changes=Balance PvP. No Fair!! they have this, We want this we want that that!! Arrrrrrggggghhh it never ends.

    Have you read about infusing?

I am breaking a rule in this thread, and naming two because I can't pick which one is more important to me.

    1) Make metal armor useful again (which I hope infusing will do)
    and
    2) Bring in dual wielding

Another Ultima client unrelated to this Ultima Online. Make a brand new Ultima mmorpg with all the wizbang graphics and gizmos.
Not shut this one down or anything, but start another game.

I would like to see the Ultima series continue to grow and expand.

"Cause and effect". With the invasions we have seen over the years in Brit and other cities,I ask how in the world are not more cities razed just like Magencia? How did Brit come away unscathed from the invasion of a couple of years back? My point is that I would make the UO world more effected by what players/NPC's do in the game. If you don't come to the rescue of a town,it will be blown away like Old Haven and Magencia. But...you would also have an option,if you wanted,to fund (with gold or raw goods such as wood and stone) the rebuilding of a town, and help determine what the city looked like with the rebuilding.

On the other side of the coin,if you wanted to be "the bad guy",you would have an option to help seige a town and attempt to destroy it. This,I feel, would create more interaction between players,if its planned out right and worked through QA and all that.

I'd say one of three things:
    1) Updated client that maintains the current 3/4 isometric view. The style of graphics is something I REALLY like about UO. Can't stand the 3d WOW junk:spider:
    2) Rigorous but consistent enforcement of existing rules. Aka start banning the speeders, cheaters, and l33ters:hahaha:
    3) *VERY TONGUE IN CHEEK* Not caving into the *in 3 year olds voice*"I want. I want. I want." crowd. OSI/EA has caused more problems by listening to that crowd rather than following their gut instinct on what is best for the game:spider:

  31. Thats easy
Fracture Felluca's land and turn the trees back on.
Age down the buildings their and crumble a few.
    Raise more dungeons in Fel.

Change the ruleset to 1 insured item and 1 blessed item. You can steal and loot.

In this land add 100% random spawning. Add in 1000 new items, newly hued items, and toss them all over the place.

    Orc war bands
    Demon hoards.

Lots of random action with odd rewards and freakish items.

And dont spoon feed us the changes.

    Fix cheating, scripting, duping, hacking.
Merge Trammel and Felucca onto a Britannia world with double size.
Apply a modified Felucca ruleset to the new Britannia.
    Make PvP less item based.
Limit insurance to 5 items per character.
Give us a decent game client.

This is just my opinion: I think that whether you divided Tram/Fel on the same shards, or split them by shard into all Tram or all Fel, you'd still see almost completely abandoned Fel shards.

I know it's a controversial topic already being argued in other threads. But I do really think this is true: the rulesets are not the problem. It was what a dedicated very active, very persistent portion of the PvP community did with an open ruleset that "ruined it." I think someone who played the game in the year or so just prior to Tram/Fel, and didn't believe there was any problem other than "overly sensitive whiners/crybabies", was probably a PvP/PK themselves or at the very least wasn't doing too much on a PvM character unless it was an occasional large guild hunt. What was going on in the name of "PvP" (killed 8 times by someone named gAnGsTa on my miner..) was really just griefing.

Unfortunately, enough people out there have had these horrible experiences in uncontrolled, open PvP environments at some time or another, that the vast majority (obviously) prefer controlled PvP rulesets. Not only here, but in virtually all of the major MMO's which dwarf UO as well. So even if you had all-Fel shards, I don't think they'd be any more highly populated than the Fel halves of today's shards are. And most of you seem to feel that's not good enough and the game is ruined. (Should be careful, that does open up the conclusion that what PvPers really want is to be able to kill people who do not wish to PvP.)

    What would *I* do?

I'd throw a meteor onto Luna and leave it a burning crater for the rest of the time UO is active. It deserves it far more than Magincia did.

If I could add a second, I would put a cooldown on both recalling and travelling through a gate. I would not be surprised if most new players do not even know where the major crossroads are. Or care. They just recall or get gated everywhere today. I hate that less than 1% of the world landmass is actually USED... a couple of town banks, Luna, and ... Ilsh.

I know its probably already been said on this thread, but I would make an all new dev team that was both skilled at coding, interesting in thorough testing of said coding and respectful of their playerbase.

    • One that understood that they will only drive away their players if they insist on going out of their way to wrong those players and blame them for just playing the game just because the dev team doesn't know what they are doing.

    • One that is dedicated to not only coding in new and more powerful items every month and calling that 'content' but also to adding real and interesting actual content.

    • One that realizes that UO is a unique creature and not just another of the 'mmporpg dujour' that pop up regularly.

    • One that realizes that UO is and has always been about community, depth and tradition.

    • One that understands that there is more than just one playstyle in this game and designs accordingly.

    • One that actually plays the game itself and understands the balancing issues present and the new balancing issues they add with each new patch.

    • One that understands that its important to fix what you have already before adding even more things that need to be fixed.

    • One that sees that communication is important and that said communication should be done primarily on OFFICIAL sites with attention still paid and respect still given to those sites that act as unofficial sources of information and community for the game.

I would do a few things.

    1. Pre-Ren Server. Possibley just Pre-Pub 16.

    2. Close three or four server's down. Offer the player's there some incentive and all the transfers they'd need to relocate any and all characters and items, even throw in a free month or two for them and open up previously unplacable for no apparent reason locations for housing.

    3. A revamp of factions. Everything. The factions themselves, the point system, the sigil system, all of it. All current bases would be rebuilt into actual Fortresses. Town's would be reconstructed to appear as though they've been built around the fortresses...

It would start as an event where some random ultimaesque bad guys gather all the Blackrock that miner's have been digging up since the Last few events, and they would cast Armageddon. Being stopped at the very end of course but not soon enough to cause complete devastation to Fel. I'd remove the random ass tombstones all over and replace them with more gruesome post-nearapocalyptic things. The overworld animal spawn would become twisted and evil, the trees scorched or just knocked over, old shrines would be destroyed and towns demolished, corpses all over. This is when the factions realize this is the right time to mobilize and build up bigger and more powerful than before. They build their new empires and the battles to rebuild the world in their image commence.

Clearing away the rubble would be the first thing. All guard zones in fel aside from the moongates would be removed, and players would need to clear away rubble searching for survivors and the dead. Players would get neat incentives to do so, such as new deco, new arties for doing this, which would be later introduced elsewhere, this would merely give them the first shot at them, as a reward for much easier tasks then they would be later on, which I have some neat ideas on, such as weapons that begin weak but grow more powerful (to a point mind you) through use (such as a weapon that collects Lich souls/black blood/whatever they have, and eventually becomes a really nice undead slayer, or PvP ones that collect murderer or innocent souls and such). Then after that materials would need to be collected for rebuild, and these would offer a new set of one time around items, more deco, a few neat suit sets, shirts that say "I survived Armageddon and all I got was this lousy fancy shirt/doublet/tunic and various other funny, cool etc. items.

Then as this goes on, new fortresses are built for the factions, HUGE fortresses, complete with everything a fortress might have (I havent spent much time in any so I'll leave that up to people who would be wiser), and NPC guards patrolling inside and around the surrounding city (which I bring up next), no hiding possible inside a faction Fortress except for the faction that owns said fortress for ambush purposes, hell i mean it is THEIR city/fortress. Have the guards work on a line of sight attack mode (they would attack if they "see" you and chase you until you have actually lost them, not just when you turn a corner), have them yell for help and if another guard is in the vicinity they will come to aid. Send a warning out to factioners when their base is under seige (assuming a guard has spotted an enemy).

Cities built intelligently AROUND the new fortresses, with full sets of NPC's that might be AROUND a growing army. IE: Blacksmiths, Leather workers, Provisioners, Ship builders, map makers, tailors, fletchers, mages, alchemists etc. Outside the city there would be farms, both livestock and vegetation (people have to eat, even if we're just pretending they eat).

Faction armor would no longer have rank requirements. Faction rank would instead, give you reduced prices on all the goods in the surrounding town, perhaps even special high rank NPCs with special items available only for your faction (perhaps unique to factions artifacts that are more faction specific IE: hued for your faction, or maybe special ingredients for crafting ML items and Imbueing) and rank would be a combination of faction kills, sigil grabs/assists, succesful trap damage and time spent in the faction. The only way to lose faction points would be to kill a member of your own faction, or ignore a "call to arms" (an enemy factioner being "spotted" in your base) which leads to the loss of sigils (such as for every sigil stolen, while you're not in your base defending you would lose a point, assuming you're online, for every friendly faction kill incident a loss of 5 points).

And I've got a few other ideas bumbling around in my head but honestly I've already written a novel here... sooo... yea. That's the gist of it.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, the shrines of course would be rebuilt, something a little more special without being grandiose and pompous, and there would be the unveiling of a new dungeon built by an ancient civilization that became consumed by evil and was ultimately buried until the world shook and unearthed it's entrance. I'd go more in depth on these but I said above, I've typed enough.

    1) Faction pvp in every facet
    2) champ spawns have a low chance to randomly spawn load oaks or maybe the harrower as the actualy champ after working the normal spawn ( cool idea tbh not mine )
    3) Radom uber mobs of many dif types everywhere in the game that you have to kill.
    4) Destroy every house in a 10 screen area around every moongate, and make it so if someone attacks you first you still cant run in a house like it is if you attack them.
    5) no guard zone in fel

    3. Huh?
    4. Something needs to be done with gate fighting but not letting someone attacked back in their house isn't a good answer. Perhaps not letting a red back in their house if attacked as a form of punishment for being a red, but not blues.

Along with a few things that have actually improved the world of Britannia, like customized housing (while restoring access to tents), lock downs and secures, the old NPC AI... yeah.
