    I'm done and here's why.

    This has been going on for far to long and every time I try to play I feel like I'm running in mud.

    Good luck to anyone else who has this problem since it's been over a year now and it appears it will never be fixed.

    No it's MCI Communications Services, Inc. /Verizon Business's Internet backbone server that's giving a constant 5%+ packet loss. I'm in Seattle, this server is making playability on west coast servers horrible and it's been going on for awhile now. Atlantic has a better connection for me these days. Giant Corporation A needs to yell at Giant Corporation B methinks.

    Worse off it will be same thing in ANY game he trys. Many on west coast have simular troubles with that network.

    we've had this same conversation for a year +. I am also in seattle area and can play east coast server much better than west coast :/

    Fortunately that's not true, it depends on the route between a person and the server they are playing on. Other games have servers located elsewhere. Even other UO servers are ok because they aren't in the same place. It's just the west coast server cluster that is effected because LAX.ALTER.NET is between us and them.

    Baja, Napa, Pacific all bad. Atlantic, Cats, LS, Diablo III all fine.

    Im on the west and I have actually, as of recent, been connecting to the west coast shards lagfree usually around the 20-45 range with zero packet loss. I actually just checked and im sitting good @ 48.

    There must be other under-laying issues.

    im in northern canada and in the west at that and im now playing more and more on east coast cause the lag is 1/2 of that of west coast.
    has been for a looooooooooong time.

    funny and yet sad at the same time.

    and does your traceroute show you going through the LAX.Alter.net servers? Or do you live so geographically those servers aren't between you and EA's game servers. West is a pretty generic location. If the server farm is south of LA and so are you of course you wouldn't be routed through the broken server...

    Greater Seattle Area myself and Alert.net is BAD.... It's so bad that I'm regularly losing connection 10-15 times in a normal Sat / Sun of logging on and playing UO on & off for like 8 hours lol.....

    Ok .don't crucify a newb .I know little to nothing about servers,pings hops etc.
    However, if Ventrillo can change the server that I bounce off for better reception; say from atlanta to dc, why can't your provider give you a better route to that one destination?

    Because a Vent server can be hosted anywhere on the globe and serve it's purpose but EA's gamer servers are in a fixed location. The problematic server just happens to be a major interenet backbone server between us and EA's servers.

    I live on the east and also play east coast servers. I too am having extreme service problems from 3 different hops resulting in intermittent discons and sync errors when trying to log back in. It's still playable, the 3-5min at a time i do get to play.

    No I live north of the 50th on the coast.. near where the 7.7 quake hit last night... and just a little bit ago a 6.8 aftershock..fun!

    West coast here infact I live a few miles north of Los Angeles 99% of all shards are good including Oceania, Hokuto etc. But I do have TWC, and the T1 they offer.

    It saddens me that considering all the things I've been through with UO in 12 years that this issue is what caused me to throw in the towel. Unlike past issues which were under EA's control I don't see this ever being fixed. As far as I know this isn't EA or the ISP's fault, but some other company's crappy server and they apparently don't care 1 bit.

    I have tried talking to my ISP, but either I lack the technical knowledge to explain the problem or the person on the other end just didn't care or understand. I've also followed the various other threads in the past year+ and from what I can tell no one at EA has acknowledged the problem. If I'm incorrect and someone at EA did say something related to this issue, please let me know where I can find it.

    If anyone has any advice on a work around that doesn't involve playing a different shard or changing my ISP, please let me know because in all these other threads I've seen no solution to this problem.

    Most of us have dealt with this at some point or another. Just saying. Perhaps you can find another way to play? Think out side the box. Whatever you choose, know there are a lot of players here that would assist you.

    I live outside of Chicago and play Pacific. I also am having lag issues, but its more of a sporradic problem. Logging in saturday morning was fine for me, but now (sun night) im pinging around 200. The east coast servers are fine or me, pinging around 50. Started noticing the problem about a month ago, around the time the player skeletons first started appearing in the graveyards.. so i figured the little bit of lag was related to this.. but i guess not.

    Kelmo makes a good point. Why not play around and try some shards where you will consistently ping well instead of trying to put up with the bad lag? If you find a great shard you may even be able to transfer there.

    It's less the ping and more about the packet loss. People just started asking about lag in general chat so I fired up the old UO Trace program and sure enough the packet loss while polling was up to 7%. So it's a widespread problem for a lot of players. Moving to a new server is NOT a solution.

    the constant lag is the reason I quit 9 months ago. After numerous complaints, sent emails, (to the producer no less)...i finally gave up as well. i just couldnt play the game without irritating lag.
    I came back to check out the 15th anniversary deal and the Halloween event (or lack thereof) and still, bad lag. So i guess I will move on again.
    God...I really want ot play this game, but like 9 months ago,,,,i cant justify paying for a game that is not playable.

    Quite sad that every email and PM I've sent has gone unanswered (to EA, my ISP and I even tried Verizon's help desk). I also posted in the Ask the Dev section and apparently it didn't make the cut.

    Million dollar companies crapping on the little man.... typical.

    With that said, what exactly do you expect the devs to say or do about this? You yourself admit that it isn't EA's fault.

    I fail to see how this is a problem for the DEV's.... it's an internet issue... Though I feel your pain in my case it was my ISP and there wasn't a single thing I could do about it. Monopoly in my area...... pretty sad when my phone was getting better internet than my home PC.

    No it's not the dev's fault at all BUT it's also NOT the players fault. With that being said do you think a server tech is more apt to listen to some random player or an EA tech acting on behalf of a group of players?

    It boils down to they sell us online access to their game every month. It may not be their fault but it's the responsible thing to do to have a tech check in on customer complaints.

    Alter.net has been a problem for east coast players for years and now it's moving on to the west coast. I had quit the game because of this years ago and came back to semi playable conditions but it's gotten considerably worse in the past three weeks. Unless the servers are in the bahamas then i see no connection.

    The problem was around weeks before the storm even formed. Dumping on already frustrated fellow players/customers doesn't help.

    What I expect is to be blown off.

    What I would hope for is to be treated like a human being who's been a loyal customer for the past 12 years and at least dignified with a response saying anything, even if it's sorry we've tried contacting the owner of that server/line and they have been unresponsive.

    As many others have said, whether it's my ISP or someone at EA calling someone at AlterNet, that's a hell of alot better than 1 random, unaffiliated person calling.

    The comment you quoted from me was a response to the OP commenting about no one responding to their PMs or answer in the "ask the devs" forum.

    To the OP: through history the devs have said they tried contacting these servers before. You can sit there and rant and rave over a problem that will probably never be solved, attack players who are simply trying to show you the reality of the situation, or come up with your own solution. I suggest finding a shard that works best for you.

    That one would be it - you basically accused us of not including/deleting your post - when instead you simply did not read/understand the way the forum works - which is what Syrus tried to explain to you...

    I think it's time to close this thread. The original statement has been made. The Ask-The-Dev's post has been properly placed for Dev attention. EA/Mythic has contacted Alternet many times per prior statements. At this point - it is either: 1.) find a shard that does not have the latency issues. 2.) Start a petition for Alternet. 3.) continue to play and find things to do where lag is not such a big factor. 4.) give up.

    Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best.
