Why can't a system like these changes be given to taming? Bonus for difficulty of creature maybe? What about a chance to gain when you successfully command your higher level unbonded pet?

Without more too it than that, it would make taming training more along the lines of taming a unicorn and spamming "all follow me" until it goes wild through failures, retaming and repeating.

Agreed but...is that not much different than grabbing a 100% hit poison weapon and whacking a golem?
I've always been in favor of changing the way you train taming. Normal usage of a skill, especially when it does a skill check for success, should allow for gains. Tamers don't go out there and tame multiple pets every day when they play their tamer. They go out there and use their pet to kill stuff. So in the course of 'using their pet to kill stuff' - they should be able to gain.

... because taming wasn't released uncompleted a few months ago?

Then again i don't think you were looking for an actual answer.

Sure it's possible but... well, see first line for the answer.

I would suspect that we would have learned enough through UO's history to want some kind of limitation inplace. That was implied as best I could while trying to run out the door.

Wow I was just thinking about this in reply to another thread. The fact is a few years ago MrTact was considering this, but it was put on the backburner and forgotten.

Gain skill just by mashing an "all follow me" macro key? Doesnt sound like the best plan to me.

Is there really any reason to revamp the entire skill-gain system before addressing the dozens of other more serious actual gameplay issues that are always hanging around?

Tamers in particular can be very effective not long after creation with a bit of hard work and jewels. Leave it alone IMO

Again a passing idea from a jackanapse running out the door. A revamp of the whole skill gain system would be great!

In the case of my idea. Now that I am at work and can properly think about UO :mf_prop:. How about diminishing returns on the skill gain for command. Something like the imbuing system of ten times before lowered skill gain. Then you have to go and get a new dragon.

Well maybe saying all follow me shouldn't be the thing that gives you a gain maybe the gain should be given by killing stuff... have it keep track of the fame your getting from high lvl monsters or something.

Or what about the get command? Ohhh a craftable item like a decoy? I see guys using decoys to train their bird dogs for hunting.

It is rediculously hard to gain taming especially once you hit 100+ and need to tame the larger monsters in the game. It should be rethought out. But it wont. Not with the way everyone is bashing Tamers now.

Why not both? Taming, Provoke and Discord are the hardest.

From the Chicago Town Hall meeting in 2008 :
Here is a handy guide for gaining taming skill as the system is now.
    http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2017872/master_taming_in_ultima_online.html?cat=19

I do remember a Dev member saying they were looking at making taming skill easier to gain through normal game play and by controlling your animals, not just by taming. It has not happened.

I do believe that the way the system is now is flawed. You can only gain on successes when taming in the appropriate skill level. Even at 120 taming, you have a 1 in 20 chance to even try to tame a cu sidhe, and that is not the success rate but the chance to even try to tame it, ("You seem to anger the Beast"). So if you are going to be able to tame 1 in 10 tries, (I am assuming RNG is working in your favor that day) you have to try 10 times to even begin to tame. You will fail several times before you succeed. Might have to make 2-6 attempts before you actually tame, multiply by the number of times you angered the beast. But even then you only have like a 30% chance to tame a cu sidhe. So you won't gain unless you get the GGS gain. Its late and I really don't know how to say this eloquently or in a way every can understand, but bottom line is, I believe the solution is to allow gains even on failures, not just success. Allow the chance to GAIN RNG to work then instead of only on successes.

It will be almost impossible to say you can gain through controlling your beast. I would take my greater to a spawn, and spam ALL KILL all day long.

That is an idea to. My dog bites me, DONT DO THAT. Now I am a little smarter for being bit.

I don't know where in my idea people get the idea that you would be able to spam a command over and over. There should DEFINITELY be restrictions on what you command and how many times you command to gain.

Because people are always looking for ways to circumvent the intention, take shortcuts, and exploit the system.

If they put the code to allow you to gain randomly by attacking with pet tough monsters, even just peerless or uber monsters like paragon, and you had a 1 in a 100 chance to gain by giving the attack command, I would have been legendary many times over on my 4 tamers. (1 per account).

I do think that the logical solution, and one that won't lead to people exploiting the system is to do the gain check even on failures. YOu will only fail if you are trying to tame something within your skill level. If you try to tame something above your level you get the message your skill is not up to the task. You will only fail if you are attempting to tame something you can tame, but it is enough of a challenge for you so you have to still work for it.

I understand that as much as anyone as I spend my work day posting on Stratics.

Maybe you get three times to command and gain off of one animal before you have to get a new one. Maybe a once a day chance to gain when bonding but give bonding a percentage chance after 7 days.
