I've thought of this for a while. When Vet Reward Robes and Cloaks first came out, they gave +2AR, which before AOS, AR values did not exist at all on clothes and it was a neat bonus. When AOS came out, this was boosted to the current +3 Physical Resist for a total of 6% Physical with a full set. At the time of AOS's launch, this was described by the devs as "An impressive bonus" due to clothing not being designed to have stats at all normally under the AOS system.

Fast forward a decade, and now we have all sorts of items with stats that were never intended to have stats, like robes, cloaks, sashes, belts, boots etc. As a result the once "Impressive" vet reward clothing has fallen behind and is no longer something seriously worth taking as a reward pick.

I would like to see Vet Reward Robes and Cloaks looked over and possibly given some small improvements. I was thinking it would be cool if the were changed to give +5 of a stat of the player's choice. You could single click a context menu on the robe and cloak and select the mod you want, only one mod per item at a time and this can be changed any time the player likes at will through the menu. Selections would include resists, SDI, HCI, DCI, LRC, LMC, etc. just about anything at 5%.

Will this impact current items with stats? Yes most likely, namely some replica robes with +5 resists. There would still be better items than vet rewards out there like the Conjurer's Garb and it's Blackthorn copies and those robes with HCI, DCI and SDI on a single item. But the idea is to make Vet Reward Robes and Cloaks actually competitive in todays UO.

Also, I would like to see dye able Vet Robes and Cloaks released that can be dyed with any dye including Tokuno style dyes.

Yes clothing does need a bit of shaking up. It's nice to have the new Blackthorn items with the different looks but how about some totally new items with different stats also.

i like all the suggestions except color.
i like that the colors are specific for that year.

truth be told i doubt we will ever see another vet reward cloak/robe issued again for the exact reasons you stated above.
their time and place in UO has long since passed.

I always thought they should just change the vet reward robes & cloaks to give the same bonuses as enhancing an item with the same type of metals.

Example: a Valorite Robe & cloak set would be 10/0/8/8/8 resistance

As for the colors beyond the metal types, could just be matched up with wood & leather type bonuses.
    Something along those lines anyway....

Covenant: That would have been cool, but these days a resist only item isn't very competitive, you have to open it up to a bit more variety.

Voodoo: It's true that they7 haven't added new colors in a few years, namely because of how relatively worthless they are now. But also, some of the later colors are just BOD cloth colors and aren't much different than someone in a similar color robe. I understand where you're coming from with colors determining age, but at the same time, aside from the horrid stats, they aren't very flexible when setting up a suit. It would be nice to dye the clothing to suit your tastes and match the suit you are wearing.

Huh? An extra 6 resist that was obtainable by damn near everybody was never especially competitive.
The robes were a nice reward that fit their time period. End of story.
An on command 5% in the mods you mentioned would be ridiculously overpowered as compared to the 6 resist and as compared to basically all other nice gear today.
Very bad idea that reeks of greed imo. gimme, gimme, gimme

Greed? Really? It's not even close to some of the robes that spawn as artifacts. Asking to be competitive is not greed. And as you said, available to everybody. So where is the overpowered part?

hell just change each one to have something different and they'd be used

Val has 3sdi/3 phys resist/3 dmg eater
    verite has 5hci/3 poison resist
aggy has 5 dci/3 cold resist
gold has 100 luck and 5 physical resist
    bronze has 2mr/3 fire resist
    copper has 2hpr/3 poison resist
    shadow has 3 cold resist/3dex
dull copper has 3 phys resist/3 str

Then the other colored, non-ingot matching ones can have mixes and matches of stuff.

    Ice white - 1mr/3 phys resist/3 intel
    jet black - 1hpr/3 phys resist/3str
    fire - 3sdi/6 fire eater

    etc

i dunno, something like that. You get the drill.. then they are similiar to other items out there, just slightly different. a mage might be better to use the val gear than the current sdi alternatives. a dexer might want 5 hci and resist for a robe instead of mr/5dci. every luck suit would have a gold cloak.

I agree these vet picks need a revamp. I am a dye it freak but in this case I say no dye but add more colors, we can now wear all years despite account age, so just add +5 whatever specifically for each color. Wow, as soon as I imagined being forced to wear a color that doesn't go with my outfit just to get +5 in something I hate my own idea, so...

Make it a +5 bonus, a different one for each year though, we could have 16 years worth, keep colors we have now, add new colors, but yes, allow us to dye them if we need to match our outfit.

But make some of the new colors so awesome we don't want to dye them.

I also agree it would be nice to have more new clothing added in general, but vendor search is making it's way into the game, so I can wait for new clothes until the kinks are worked out of that system.

    :)

Yeah, that'd be pretty cool too. I'd stlll like the option to have them be dyeable though, with maybe a context menu to revert back to default color if desired.
