Instead of new land expansions for UO...

    ...can we maybe have the current land-masses reworked? Maybe give some updated love for tram/fel land mass? Maybe even Ilshenar and T2A as well. I say this because as it stand I think we have more than enough land to explore but not enough incentive to actually explore some of the older lands.

    Perhaps update or add some new landmarks, rework the whole spawning locations on the top lands, fix the AI for monsters/NPCs, and most importantly, rework the loot system for the monsters!

    Feel free to add in here.

    I agree - though I always love exploring new areas as well.

    I've been trying to think of ways to add new land - without spreading out the player base. What I came up with is a rotating system where landmasses would come and go depending on the season or maybe tied to the moongates as in the single player games (Moons determined the destination).

    Basically - take a non-housing landmass (Ilshenar? Lost Lands?) and temporarily disable access to it - and replace it with something new. Then every so often, rotate again and bring back Ilshenar instead of the new one. Additional land-masses could be added to the rotation at will providing a new and changing/changeable experience - without spreading the players further.

    I like this idea. Just rotate the "unique" loot along with it, and you've got your self some "hopping" low pop servers imo :)

    Ilshenar resembles Serpents Isle and the Land of Feudal Lords (Tokuno) was always meant to be somewhere across the sea from Britannia. Link the lands back together and make it so you can sail to them.

  8. The old dungeons need some love!

    Breathe some life back into Destard for example...start spawning Shadow Wyrms on lvl 1, Ancient Wyrms on lvl 2, and a Crimson Dragon on 3!!

    The spawns in these dungeons are more or less useless. The only people running them are scripters.

    Let's see them script in Despise with a couple of Yammadons chasing their butts!

    Viper09 that would be great but...How are you going to SELL it to the playerbase? That, hey, no new expansion but we retooled the old lands/areas/dungeons and for only $29.99 you can get this upgrade? Anytime things get done there is a cost in hours and money. We all know this, I just have no idea how to sell it to the players. I know I would ask where was fee increase from years ago gone too? I think people expect to see new things/monsters/areas when they part with their cash.

    I don't know, a good question but I'm sure there can be a way to sell it. Maybe add this as part of the pirate expansion a lot of people want? The best way to sell it would be to add it along with some other addition that needs to be purchased.

    Not to hijack the thread....but it does go along with the love for old land...
    Years ago I asked for there to be spawning steal-ables.....always in a different location as to stop some of the camping and to make us WANT to run around and explore :p

    Overland spawn of creatures ... increase it. Spawn orc camps again. Randomize the spawns themselves to an extent.

    Im in favor it a World of Warcraft style cataclysm where all the lands get shaken up and transformed.

    It doesnt need to be that drastic or anything, but just do some changes, update some areas, etc.

    I am also majorly in favor of a sea-based expansion. We dont need more facets. Boats, though, could use some love.

    AI should run you down.. having a bunch of brigands walking after you Is rediculous. have them run! same with other monsters. if you don't have a horse and cannot defend yourself you are SOL. higher dexed monsters can run longer or something.

    When I came back 9 months ago after a 6 year break that is how I got my gold to get up and running. I fought ettins followed by titans and cyclopedian warriors in despise lvl 3 for a few weeks.

    Jesus, couple years ago the intro of paragons in Illsh was a unique way to get us back into the lands. Now your asking for another change... I think most of us out there are happier with new lands to explore and not the same lands with different creatures.

    And yes, bring on the pirates...
     
  21. It seems rather wasteful to allow certain areas to just sit unused. But then again, I always actually liked the original landmass and the Lost Lands. Different strokes for different folks I guess...

    I'd like to see that...but only if it were open PvP...otherwise, what the heck is the point?

    Despise is the ideal place many of us send a new player to work up a new warrior character, 0/30 right up to Gm+. Those 3 floors work every level of skill gaining. Now if they start taking places like this out, it will only hurt new player development. Destard, ya bump of the 2nd & 3rd floors, but main level, naw. Can be a pain to get into the main door as it is when someone leads all to the cave entrance. Adding Shadows & the great necro skills they have, on lvl 1 will make it more of a griefing place then anything, imo. Now if EV's, Blades & Elemental spells actually would go after a raised from the dead creature, or be bardable, it wouldn't be as bad. But none of these spell (EV's, Air/Water/Fire Ele's or Blade Spirits) go after any reborn "red monsters" brought to life by necromancy of monsters.
    That's what is nice about UO, you don't need a group to hunt with to enjoy the game. Now you start bumping spawn creatures etc up in many of the lower places, to me it would hurt more then help. But that's my opinion.

    The problem with re-working the old lands for an expansion is... they can't make money off of it. You already have access to Tram/Fel/Ilsh/ect. How would they sell you things you already have access too even if they reworked them? Keep you from going into the dungeons you've been going to for years?

    I dunno, I'm conflicted on what I want for the new lands... I kind of what a complete overhall, to be the same, but enough different so it feels fresh. But they've been trying to do that with clients for years now...

    That's right for just $29.99 you can build your own private battle pit and choose from the following monsters to fight at your leisure while your friends look enviously on!

    Terathan Warrior, Lich, Lich Lord, Lizardman, Orc Chopper or the mighty Frost Troll.

    Why not collect them all?

    Yes, how selfish of us to want some updates to the old lands when we have paragons that are restricted only to Ilshenar...introduced only recently in 2007 or 2006, forget the release date of 3rd dawn. Since then having more powerful weapons/skills where the classic lands of tram/fel and T2A gave gone untouched since UO:R. /Sarcasm

    Granted spell-casting for monsters was altered a bit with AoS. The only other changes that occurred off the top of my mind was when the scrolls were spawning from groups of monsters in various places in fel on the top-land. Not sure if they are still there. (The monsters not the scrolls)

    So much of the old lands are just sitting there with a spawn-rate system that is out of date. It's not exactly dangerous to wander around much of the top-lands with monsters that only walk after you. The loot needs to be brought up to date as well. And I don't think we need to repeat the what was already posted here about AI.

    I'm not saying or even suggesting that people don't like new lands with expansions. Just that the old lands need some new life to them.

    Lost Lands Trammel needs improvements most of all and then comes the sea I think... and ofcourse monster and chest loot:drool:

    Maybe not Altantic Fel, but I have been all over Atlantic Tram recently and have run into players in every dungeon. Not enough to cramp the spawn - but enough to that a player can find a res if/when needed.

    And since then given us ML KR and SA, not to mention the little events/items along the way (anniversary, xmas, Halloween, Blackrock etc.) Sorry that its been decided to give players new objects/exploration instead of "revamping" old areas with the same creatures found elsewhere in the game. From time to time there has new creatures in old areas (Invasions) for limited times. But in the end if you want new creatures, go to the new areas.

    You're right, the old dungeons give me something to do when I am in stat loss for one thing - which has been happening a lot lately... :p

    However, it would be nice to see them get some love. Not necessarily to make them more difficult, but just to make them more interesting and give them more flavour.

    Those are all new land masses, ML and SA, those do not do anything for the old lands other than a new option for the moongate. KR was a client that ultimately failed. Events are nice but unfortunately only temporary. After the events the old lands go back to normal. Not sure why you added anniversary and xmas to that list because they really didn't do anything at all other than gifts, lol.

    Not asking for new creature to the old lands as different land masses should have their distinct differences, would be cool, but just asking a re-vamp for the spawning. You can run and run in certain areas of the land and see absolutely nothing spawning. Most of the spawns were designed long before the game allowed players to become so powerful. Not going to repeat the other proposals in this thread you are not responding to as I am certain you can go back and read.

    ML was a a couple years ago, SA was just recently, and KR was a client.

    ML can be ruled out since it's old.

    SA just came out, and we're asking that instead of a new expansion next year, they opt for livening up the old or original lands.

    Therefore your argument has no merit.

    I agree with the OP, and others.

    I'd like to see things pop up unannounced too, like underground crypts in the middle of the jungles, new cave systems inside old caves, new dungeon sections inside old dungeons hidden by secret doors and puzzles to open, tunnels that lead from land to undersea ancient ruins/fortresses. Some could be linked to mini events or new named evils creatures like liches and dragons as lairs. One time killables, please, WoW style "end game" doesn't belong in UO except to feed the lust of elite powergamers.

    Hell just mix up the current dungeons! take the spawn from one and swap it with the other. We would have to find the "new" Despise and Destard. It would give us a reason to rediscover the old lands without removing the training, hunting and overall tradition of the original lands.

    I'd rather see an expansion that does nothing but give the players more social tools to create their own adventures. Governments, territorial control, politics, armies, declarations of war, city invasions, upkeep, etc... And throw in some skill balancing and redistribution (To be honest, magery has TOO MANY useful abilities compared to any other skill.. I'd like to see it separated), as well as true specialization benefits and consequences.

    Guess I'm alone in this. Most seem to want new shinnies more than anything that promotes community and filling a role in such a community.

    I'm crazy like that. :gee:

    :thumbup1: This is a good idea. It could form part of an event thread, with the major denizens of the dungeons warring upon each other for territory - and maybe spilling out into human lands and cities as they are displaced.

    I'd like to see the designers go back to Heartwood and make it as graphically interesting as the new expansion. They could also add some new branches, puzzles etc. Heartwood is still an incredible embarrassment, obviously rushed and without any artistic merit. Please, somebody draw it again.

    What really kind of let me down about Heartwood wasn't so much the design, but the fact that it appears to be a little community in the middle of...something. The place doesn't really connect to any other land except through teleporter to Yew.

    But anyways, a tad off topic, just had to say that :p

    Switching spawns from dungeons would be very interesting. Random pop-ups of monster spawns throughout the land would be awesome. Could run on the same kind of system as the gypsy camps that randomly appear.

    i played for 10 year+ and i have not even bean all over fel or tram and they keap sjanging them all the time so got no clue of what you talking of they shanged haven they shanged fire island they shanged and they even kild of some islands and added new dungions here and so on what more do you want a new game or some ?

    Re-do the Lost Lands. No real incentive to go there. Heck, even Papua's rooftops are unfinished and buggy! Go take a look.
    One problem with Lost Lands is... no healers around, and all those vines and cliffs, ugg.

    Put some whirlpools in the waters and have them chase you down and drop you into the Lost lands or Tokuno. But that's a topic for ... the Pirate Expansion.

    They changed New Haven which is for new players. They only changed part of Fire Island just to add in an entrance to the SA dungeon. Other than that there are no new dungeons in tram/fel. Guess you could count Khaldun for T2A, but that was a long time ago.

    New Haven (2nd rebuild since the original)... Magincia... Fire Isle... Painted Caves... Sanctuary... Heartwood... There's been a few over the ages - but not enough to keep things "interesting".

    well lets not forget all the shanges they did in fel i mean they did add shamp spawns they did make lost land un recalable and made it tuffer to go there good if you ask me

    and allot of othere shanges you seem to not even have seen also they added some dungions on the islands in tram with ml so just get exspantions and you have lots of new dungions to exsplore

    I generally don't mess w/Destard because of greater dragons and the fact is I see noone but animal tamers trying them.

    The other dungeons such as despise, deceit, shame could use some love. Speaking of shame, Elementals in general need reworking IMHO.
