I left UO when it was apparently cast in stone that we had to accept third-party cheater-catching software or not play. I wasn't willing to supply known holes in my firewall give a small companies software full access to any file on my system just to play a game.

I've read that the UO clients have been buggy since Samuri Islands. Is this still true?

Is the third-party cheater catcher software in use or did UO have a player exodus over it?
I've no problem with UO systems people checking the data stream from my client to make sure it's not been tampered with. I have a problem with anything other than my chosen anti-virus software exploring my system freely.

Are accounts and characters from 2003 still available for reactivation?

What is the latest client that comes on a CD? I chucked the UO CDs years ago.

Did they ever restore Crafting as a viable playstyle? AoS had trashed it and it was the playstyle I had enjoyed.

They never did implement that third party software.

Bugs . . . no comment hehe but your probably going to think its similar to when u left

As far as i understand your 2003 accounts should be fine but I have never tested myself

Hmm think 9th Anny came on CD but might have been Samuri/Necro edition was last, not certain as there a download now

Crafting has received many things since 2003 but best to talk on crafters forum for more answers

Why don't you just play the game and see if you like it instead of asking a bunch of people on a message board if they think it's worth playing?

btw, they never added that cheater-software-catching-software. Don't you feel silly for leaving?

Third party programs are as popular as ever.
Crafting changes have been for the better, and will only get better.
Your characters and skills, and everything in bank boxes will still be there, no houses though.

The important thing for you to do is find something that you enjoy doing, and try to ignore the cheaters.
For instance, I like to PvM - No cheaters there....... PvP is cheater central.... I have played on T1 internet, with no lag and still was slower then most pvpers.

Crafting is going to be exciting when the SA expansion comes out, look in to it.

This is the latest 2d version sans patching. The old graphics client i still use.

If you want to try the new Kingdom Reborn,(redone graphics & interface, not to be confused with "3rd Dawn"which was taken away some time ago.)

You can get a Free trial to see if you like that one, here's the link:

Heres another link for the new expansion thats coming out Stygian Abyss:

Just do your research, read up on the new content and what has changed since you left, and decide what you think is best for yourself.

Don't feel silly in the least. :) I hung on until the patches with it were announced and the tone of the offical responses were hardcore 'Tough Tiddlywinks paying customer, accept what you consider spyware and leave known holes in your system defenses OR DON'T PLAY. Your choice.'

Why spend money to find out if play did include the added software. It was simplier just to come and ask.

Since the third-party software got dropped perhaps I will put the time into the download.

Can't RP easily in UO but it had it's highpoints.

Are you joking? I can't tell, but just as much cheating, if not more, goes on in PVM than PVP.

I wish they did put in the mandatory third party anti-cheating software. Would make the game a hell of a lot better than it is today. And don't say it's spyware or any of that bull****, similar programs are in all kinds of popular games today, that have 10 times the players UO has.

Then you must not get out much - 99% of the cheats either are directly PvP related, or are dupes/scripts to get high-end equipment FOR the cheater's PvPers, or to sell to others for PvP (who, of course, cannot tell what method was used to collect an item).

As the Moderator for the Craftsman forum, it's pretty obvious to my forum's users (legitimate crafters), that the only reason you see duped val hammers and scripting miners/loggers, is to sell to people trying to craft their uber-PvP weapon of choice, and to donate to collections to get the replicas and talismans for sale (mostly for the PvP crowd, assembling their suits). You sure don't find the resources for sale at values that actually reflect their crafting uses - only their collection point values.

There's never been a 3rd party prog that was mandatory.
Been playing 5 years without any program (uomap uoassisst etc).

You just sound like a whiner..
Play if you want to, no one cares...

There are some illegal programs that may somehow affect you if you are a trader, pvper or pvmer.

As a trader, you may be affected by dupes or scripts

    As a pvper, you may be affected by third party program that could auto target you (the whole gank squard) if you are the NEAREST enemy to them within the 1-2 seconds. {I am affected by this currently at the moment and not happy about it at all; there is just NOWAY 10 enemies can target a person at the SAME 1-2 second time}

As a pvmer, you maybe affected by their uber gears that their dupes / scripts helped to acheive so they could kill and loot the monsters faster.

But if you dont care the above, this is a perfect game for you as UO has the best gameplay in my opinion.

    Take care and enjoy.

The OP is takling about when UO was looking into using Punkbuster to look at your system for illegal apps running while UO was active, this never got put into place.

Yeah I know, I should have cleared that up.

Course', the OP claiming PB was "set in stone" is a little overboard.
Considering we never saw hide nor hair of it.

"A little overboard"? <g> The next set of patches downloaded were going to modify the client on my system for use with Punkbuster. I would consider that a good sign it was "set in stone" <laugh> :)
