Is it "safe" for my legacy ship to sail the high seas?

Discussion in 'UHall' started by Victoria Navarre, Nov 18, 2010.

  1. I haven't bought the HS booster yet because of supposed CC info issues. My question is this. Can I be attacked by pirates and their cannons while I work legacy mib's and just plain fishing for pearls? Am I at an automatic disadvantage to said pirates because I can not "shoot back" unless I use my archer or a mage? Can I even target them at all unless I have the booster enabled? Just a few questions I would like to see answered here.

Yes you can be attacked. Whilst you can try to arrow them you wont do much damage until you can destroy their ship with cannons.

The pirates are mostly located east of jhelom so if you stay clear of there in the meantime you should be fine.

  3. Thanks for that answer. Another question. Can their cannons sink my legacy ship while I am fishing?

your ship will be stucked after 2-3 cannon shot, so stay away from them :D

You are faster than pirate ships so you can escape easily if you can avoid cannons :p

  5. Bad news and good news. What is the typical range of the best cannon? Do I need to be off screen to be out of range,or do they have a "range" of a triple casting Lich Lord(2 screen range sometimes)?

cannons have a slow fire rate and hits only what they have in front, so if you get out of the cannon line you are safe.

I've pretty much written off my SOS that are between Jhelom and Amoeba Island, until I can fish them up DURING pirate fights where I'm ship crew for someone else (my fisher is a legendary mage, and I typically put down a water ele and air ele to cast spells on the Pirate captain, while I attack as well, until we board)

My own HS ship is totally unarmed, other than myself (and, when you can do 280 points each with one spell to 1 or 2 water eles, do you really need more, as a fisher?)

I'm not sure of the comparative speed of legacy ships, but I have not stopped doing mibs on a new ship. If you are paying attention you see the pirate/orc names come on screen before you are in range of their attack and their ship become visible on the uo radar map. Simply retreat before they notice you.

You don't have to fight pirates if you don't want to. The only time I had any problem was when the pirate was actually parked on the mib spot. I put that one back in the box and decided to do it later.

I often have a giant beetle or other pet on board to guard me while I fish in case of serpents, and I noticed they're really quick at spotting a pirate ship coming in too. So if you had something like a giant beetle to haul home your treasure, you could have it guard you and act as a lookout at the same time :) They need healing for the first wee while if you use them for munching serpents, but Molly coped with just magery heals on hers, so that might be an option for you too.

When I see my pet go towards the side of the ship and there's another ship on radar I just sail at full speed in the other direction. I haven't armed my big ship as yet, but pirates don't seem to give chase any better than an ele or serpent does, so it's really optional if you want to take on a pirate.

I'm sure your legacy boat would be fast enough to outrun the pirates, though you'll have to keep up with the repairs from any cannon fire you do get hit by, or you may find your ship slows down and becomes vulnerable. But I really wouldn't worry about them too much.

I started with the older boat doing the fishing quest. You get a message about the size of your hold and they adjust your order. I would wonder if the bigger orders for the higher rewards might be limited. Way for them to get you into a bigger ship. They should of let those without the booster to do the quest with the older boats as a hook. Message from quester "You may have earned a PS/great reward that hual if you had a bigger hold." Cha Ching.

Like others said the pirates in the south seas are like getting killed by a Reaper. If it happens you was asleep at the tiller arm. Lately been running across orc and pirate ships off the northern shores of Moonglow.

The old boats do need to stay. Someday they may have boating in Ilsh. Paragon Serps and that big pond make for the spot when they do a water based champ. White netting the big bad boy and fighting from the shore/docks just seems wrong.

So those of us that didn't buy their crap get penalized??
Sounds like the next skill i'll be flushing. If I didn't buy the 'expansion' it shouldn't affect me, if it will then I want a free storage increase to compensate me for their inept planning.

If the first 120er starts peddling the pies and those without can still use, then it is a win win. Each players gets to spend their time in what they enjoy doing.

They made it clear what people who did buy the booster would have access to and THOSE WHO DIDN'T BUY IT on what they would have access to. EVEN if you dont like fishing and never do one of the new things involved in the booster, then you can still buy it as a discounted storage upgrade.

I hate people that complain when it was known what content everyone would get and what content you wouldn't get. Still confused on how you were "penalized" for not buying upgrade though.

Your right, I guess I missed these in the list of Content material

    1. your ship will be stucked, so stay away - leave the area - I should not be affected, and Certainly not stuck.
    2. Yes you can be attacked - just can't really fight back - I should be blue to them
    3. Write off SOS that are between Jhelom and Amoeba Island - the sea where you sail & fish just got smaller because of pirates

So what are those if you didn't buy?
Penality, a plus to playing, or 'no effect'

Sounds to me as if you're looking at the glass in "half empty" mode. Even being taken by surprise with a pirate ship I have no trouble moving out of their way and getting MIBs where I want. I can't think why anyone would stone off fishing when there's no need. But hey, I'm sure other fishers will gladly buy all your MIBs ;)

  16. I have to side with Sevin here. Let's say,for discussion sake,I didn't buy the SA expansion. That would only mean I could not enter ter mur and have the imbuing/mysticism skills on my template. No true "bleed-over" I would have to deal with. I wouldn't have to deal with a stygian dragon suddenly popping up while I am in the Ice Dungeon hunting WW's. In this case, there is a good possibility for plenty of confrontations with pirates that can seemingly blow away my legacy ship in three shots. This coinsides with me having no real ability to defend myself because I have heard that the pirates take very little damage unless their ship is taking damage(is this right?).

Perhaps allow my fisher/mage to toss some fire fields on the deck to burn the ship or their sails so I can make a retreat of some sort. Other wise why should my normal game play be diminished because my CC keeps getting rejected ad nauseum by each of the EA stores that sells the booster code?

The Orc or Pirate ships getting the best of anyone wishing no fight. Like fighting a reaper and losing. Need to get close and stand there while holding your ankles to the ground. Those that die had been asleep at the tiller arm is all. I paid to avoid ship envy.

And the water is blue Dammit Dammit Darn.

I accept it's bleed over, but there's no way I'd even consider soulstoning fishing because of it. I haven't armed my ship with cannons, I pass pirates umpteen times a day and I can honestly say the pirates are no more trouble than water eles or serpents. I don't have to engage them in any way if I don't want to. Neither do you. Which to me says this isn't a problem if you don't have the upgrade. You just sail past them and voila. Why stone off fishing when it's such a simple thing to move past the pirates?

I went several days running quests with a simple legacy boat and my giant beetle. No problems at all. My new ship is unarmed, again no problem. I'm not a tough uber player, Molly's a little RP crafter with a smidge of taming and GM armour. She hasn't had to change what she does in any way since the upgrade, it honestly is as easy as it could be. I just keep sailing and get on with whatever I'm doing. If you needed cannons to deal with them, yes, I'd agree that was a negative impact on players who haven't upgraded. But that's just not the case.

I can understand folks don't want bleed over, but if you try what's been suggested here you'll find that it's not actually a problem. In fact, I didn't realise the pirate ships spawned in that area and that they'd attack me, I like to learn things for myself. I was merrily sailing and bumped into an orc ship lol. When it happened though, I just laughed and called my partner over to have a look. I'm not remotely equipped to attack a pirate yet, but I love bumping into them. I don't know how to fire cannons and attack a pirate ship, but I'll still have a go. Compared to expansions where it's shoved under your nose that you can't have this or that, I'll take new monsters any day :p

Wait, so I guess I'm slow on the uptake today. . . Are all waters potentially dangerous or only those on the Felucca side? I've parked my little, legacy boat next to goodness knows who and have never been fired upon.

I side with Sevin too, not about stoning fishing but the fact that your ship can be attacked and scuppered even of your choice is to not purchase the booster.

I understand Wenchkin's point that it's not hard to escape the pirates, but how there's no way for someone without the booster to repair his/her ship IF (s)he ever gets it scuppered makes me decide against buying HSA. This, along with the list of bugs since its launch just doesn't convince me that the dev's had put their time into making it a quality product.

So yeah, no HSA for me. At least not until after I see some improvement done to it.
