Is there a forum for individual skills?

Discussion in 'UO Players Corner' started by OneLastBreath, Jul 14, 2008.

  1. I know this is a stupid question to some and the forum is probably in an obvious place...but where is the forum that talks about a specific skill? Like magery, fencing, archery. What to kill and when.

I'm new and I'm training fencing. I was wondering what I should be killing in my 70's and so on.

I saw the warrior thread but there is nothing under it.

According to reports, if things work out well, the warrior (and other skills) forums should be up later this week.

In the mean time, here's the short version of my warrior training guide:

    1. At 50 weapon skill, train resist up to 100 on spectral spellbinders. This will get your dex and resists up as well. It takes about an hour.
    2. Immediately attack 4-6 sheep (or more if you're in a hurry) and train parry up to 100. Don't forget to tab out and heal yourself. This takes somewhere between an hour and an hour and a half.
    3. Train your weapon skill to 60 in Old Haven. At this point you should already have your stats where you want them as well at 90+ resist and parry (Hey, I'm impatient, I can't wait for 100!). It usually takes me about an hour if it's my first hour of the day.
    4. Train weapon skill in the Tokuno sleeping dragon champion spawn until the spawn goes up. This takes between 30-40 minutes and gets your weapon skill to 70.
    5. This is where you have a little bit of flexibility. My favorite way, because it's safer than the rest and still pretty quick, is to beat on Ettin until 80 skill. You can also use earth elementals, but the higher end earth elementals tend to have too much skill for your gains. You can also use lizardmen, demons (if you're feeling adventurous) or kappa.

I'm not sure how long it takes, since I never really time it (I tend to go with option "b", I'll get into that later)
    6. When you hit 80 skill, you can best be served in one of two places. The painted caves (troglodytes) or cyclops/titan valley next to Honesty in Ilshenar (just avoid the paragons for a while). If your healing is good, you can also go to the Yomatsu mines or the fan dancer dojo. Those places will take you to 120 easily too.

Option 'b': Once you hit 70 skill, get +skill jewelery to raise your skill to upper 90's and proceed directly to the higher level spawns.

Option 'c': Once you hit 70 skill, find a golem and a 100% poison weapon and bash it mindlessly for a few hours. Boring, but it works (and some people find any training dull).

Yeah - we were hit by a double-whammy of inept server hosting employees (they formatted our machine instead of someone else's by accident) and a scammer that was supposed to be backing up the site (both 3rd parties stratics was paying) back about 2 months ago. The forums for the skill/professions are going to be added (as they were before the "oops") after the old data from the other forums is merged into the new ones.

I think the best justification not having the professions come back as temporary forums when most of the others did, is that no one wanted to rebuild the skill FAQs from scratch, or from hideously outdated copies. Having just done that for the miner & smith forums in April (as a means to update them), and not having intact backups of those new FAQs, I can tell you the prospect of that was not pleasant (as I would have had even LESS to work with than when I started the revision).

It's high time to say this: Your FAQ's are excellent! Scholarly in the best sense of the word. We can't thank you enough for that.

This "double-whammy" sure was a bad thing :(. But now there is an intact backup system, yes?

*edit: Just for curiosity... Is Stratics going to sue those responsibles?

Yes, there is now a backup system that stratics itself controls, if I understand correctly; and yes, there are legal actions underway.

I think many of my FAQs reflect my life-long tendency to try to understand HOW things work, not just going by statements of their function. You know the type; people who take apart broken things, and tinker with them until they work, or at least figure out why they broke in the first place, etc.

  6. Thanks for the replies.

I'm having fun running around Despise killing Lizards, Ettins, Troll, Earthies and Ogres. Will that get me to 100 eventually in...Fencing, Parry, Tactics?

I'm also training healing and that is raising my anatomy and healing.
