Is there a reason why there are "Mage Weapon" properties but no "Mysticism Weapon" properties?

I was just thinking after reading another thread... Why is it that there are "Mage Weapon" properties on items that basically convert the persons magery skill into combat skill or view it as combat skill along with magery skill. I can understand why "Mage Weapon" wouldn't affect Mysticism, Chivalry, or Necromancy... But why don't these caster classes have their own property that would count towards the spell class along with a combat skill IE: Mysticism, Necromancy, Chivalry?

    EDIT:
I think what Mervyn suggested is a good idea because it would mean templates that don't use Magery and use Mysticism, Chivalry, Necromancy alone would be able to have a "combat skill" by using a "Use Best Casting Skill" weapon.

It would also allow both melee and ranged dexer clases as well as caster classes to create a variety of different templates using mysticism, necromancy, or chivalry cause they wouldn't need to waste 120 in that combat skill, because they would save 120 skill points to use it elsewhere."

If they change it so that it affects both the skill and the skill cap there's no problem having mage/mystic weapons. Necros don't need one since they don't have to have a special property on their weapon to cast while holding it, and so never needed to fit an extra skill on their template just so they wouldnt get hit.

I imagine because the mage weap predates most of the other spell schools, I'm tempted to say that perhaps it would be better for a 'Use best casting skill' -x skill might be better. The thought once crossed my mind, then quickly left as there are more important moral questions to be asked of sosaria.

Because "mage weapon" was one of the worst additions to the game and adding another gimp mode to the pot would only make worse this vile stew?

well that's actually a good idea Mervyn... That would mean templates that don't use Magery and use Mysticism, Chivalry, Necromancy alone would be able to have a "combat skill" by using a "Use Best Casting Skill" weapon.

Do you realize how crappy and generic templates would be if mage weapon wasn't around?

On the flip side, do you realize how much trouble dexers would have if everyone had wrestle or even parry on their mages?

I could see mysticism.. as mysticism is really really close to being a stand alone skill, but i dunno if i'd go as far as saying necro, chiv, etc, should benefit from a "casting weapon" ability. In fact, both were implemented as "secondary dexer skills" it was the player base that warped necromancy into more of a mage skill, which is why it doesn't need spell channeling.

-15 or better mage weapon has by far been the single largest hand up that mages never needed. As it stood LRC was a huge bonus but the crutch that was a free 100 points...absurd, stuff that cat back in the bag.

Yea... lets go back to what.. 9 years ago when it didn't exist? Now i'd kill to have a viable hally/heavy mage again from then tho..hmm... But anyways, i'd consider agreeing with you if tank mages were a hair more viable, they are still there and usable, but aren't as good (for good reason) since the special toggle change. everyone would be on scribe wrestle, combinations with anat, or pure parry mages. Then u'd see a mix of udnerwhelming anat necro mages and mystics. Would be BORING.

But the fact that you just complained about LRC makes me realize where you are coming from here...

Can you imagine the uproar if 75% of mages were 30sdi parry mages, where a dexer couldn't disarm and try to have their way with them? that would be fun to watch. mage weapons have a MASSIVE trade off, of completely losing your defense with a disarm, in exchange for fitting in another skill.

Please, we all know that all -mage weapon using people run a cycle waiting to rearm if you are so lucky to actually get around the DCI bonus. That said the temp's that have been built around not having to use that 100-120 points on defense are beyond silly when compared to the other "class" of chars.

My mages are all parry mages btw and I use the LRC just to be clear, who wouldn't?

There was a guy on gl for years, that played pure mages and refused to touch anything else (always had a shield or book in his hand) and always had the exact same sentiment as you do.

The only true "defense" non mage weapon skill is when you pair anat-eval. wrestling (especially with a little hci) can be an offensive skill if used properly. But i'll just stick with my previous opinion that without mage weapons, mage templates would be very vanilla. And i'm not saying this because all my chars use them, one of my favorite chars to play currently is a scribe/anat/alchy mage, and sometimes drop alchy for healing or poisoning.

You can keep your opinion, but it is not the same as the majority i would assume.

I know it always makes me afraid when I see a bookworm coming at me with a sword versus a big brawny Blacksmith with the same.
Seems the person who can make them should get it before a mage. Isn't that why there's Animate Weapon?

    - Mage Weapons are OPed and should have never been added.

The toggle on special moves should also be removed.

My main has been a Nox Mage for the last 10 years.

Personally, for a weapons fighter, I think the Majority of specials should be available for all weapon types, with an individualized bonus given to each class.
I think a Page full of stuff is hitting that 'anal' clutter thing. While it's nice to have different types, just as a spell for every occasion, you're still mana limited, so what's the difference? Drag the icons out that you want - just saying I think it could be a whole lot better than the complicated mess we currently have.

Keep the mage weapons and add the myst weapons BUT both weapon properties should have a significant penalty, like -35. Then those that wish to use imbued gear to offset the penalty will still be able to use them, but at a price :)
