    Well...
    The Mummy-dragon, and the Daddy-dragon...

    *Coughs*
Methinks I'll leave the elaboration to your individual imaginations.
That way, any troubling thoughts you have are not directly my fault, since I can plead in innocent continuation of the story being intended (such as a friendly game of Guitar Hero).

Once upon a time, the devs in UO decided they didnt like the fact that dragons in all other games were extremely powerfull, but the dragons in their game died in 2 - 3 hits/2 - 3 seconds so they buffed them.

    The end.

    Hail Folks,

The Ancient History of Sosaria, and of Britannia are filled with tales of great cataclysms. Continents shattered, submerged, and replaced. Juka, Meer, Wisps, & Dragons are all spoken of as some of Sosaria's oldest inhabitants.

These Greater Dragons may well have been only recently unearthed from areas enclosed for aeons, or awakened from sleep by unknown forces. And just as I was brought to Britannia by a Travel Gate, these also may have come to these lands from "somewhere beyond" this realm.

    Time may tell.

    Stay Tuned.

If they can twist the lore and more importantly, ignore key Ultima goals and direction, for previous expansions, then why bother trying to rationale things now?

I don't care so much about the story. Back in the early years of UO, dragons was powerfull or we was weaker.

The spawn in old Britainnia really need a tweak, so the dragons are a good start.
Now let us see greater mongbat back, more powerful orc spawn, more powerful brigand spawn and remember to put back the archer in the group. So many of the old monsters need a greater version to bring life back to the old dungeons and old lands overland.

  11. You see...

There once was this red dragon, who wasn't all that bright. Seems he rolled a bit low with the Evil Lord RNG and hit the bottom of the barrel with the intelligence.

One day this not so bright dragon was hungry, and since there were no eager, new to the craft warriors around, he decided to eat some coal to help with his tartar control, and to hopefully improve his fire breath. Well, since he wasn't all that bright, when he happened upon a pile of tasty black coal, he didn't think anything of the few pieces that burned like cinnamon when he ate them. To his thinking (after all, he really wasn't all that bright...) he'd happened upon a new flavor of coal, and he rather liked it, and ate it every time he happened upon it, liking the cinnamony taste.

Our friend, the not so bright dragon, finally grew to an adult (which is a story all in itself how he managed to survive). He was out one day, looking for his favorite cinnamony rock, when he happened upon a young lady dragon, who also was "not all that bright", and was also out looking for her favorite cinnamony tasting rock. Needless to say, they instantly discovered they had much in common (both liking the cinnamon rock and both being "not all that bright"), and fell in love with each other almost immediately.

One thing led to another (even "not all that bright" dragons have animal instincts ya know [IMG]) and our young lady dragon was ready to lay her very first dragon egg. The big day came, and our young lady, after much discomfort, finally laid her egg, but had commented at the time that "that one burned coming out". They both looked with glee upon their glorious offspring to be, and didn't think aything of the fact that the egg was a charcoal color, instead of one of the normal colors like green, red or brown. But alas, they both were not so bright, so the thought never occurred to them that something might be amiss.

Needless to say, the rest is history. Our little charcoal colored egg hatched, and not that it's any surprise, the baby dragon was smarter than both parents together right from the egg, but was also well endowed. Well endowed indeed he was, with massive strength, high intelligence, nimbleness never seen before in the likes of dragonkin, and was able to cast spells like nobody's business.

Our tiny friend realized right from the start that he was much smarter than his parents, and decided that for his own safety (they really were dumb as dirt) he would be better off moving out immediately and raising himself before his parents could do something undragonlike, and end up causing him an untimely death at the hands of idiots.

The rest of the tale is best left for another day.....

Something as massive, & Powerful as the Greater Dragons suddenly appearing should have BNN coverage.

They're just dragons that got older, wiser, and stronger. Not really news at all. The part I feel is newsworthy is that they still look identical to their much younger/weaker siblings.

Older and wiser than the already oldest and wisest Wyrm?

If a Wyrm was called a Greater Dragon then these might as well be called Even Greater Dragon(s).

I dont know about any back story regarding these new "enhanced" dragons, but it's pretty clear to me they are using proformance enhancers. Most likely it's DGH (Dragon Growth Hormone) because it's impossble for a lay person to tell if a dragon is using DGH just by looking at it.

Recent reports of houses exploding and burning to the ground have been linked to the manufacture of DGH.

The long term effects of using DGH is still unknown.

One thing that IS known, today many of the so-called "enhanced" dragons will bond with thier owners. Fel Yew gates and popular PVP locations will surely be flooded with hungry dragons eger to prove to thier masters that they are worthy pets. In other words, It's gonna be a blood bath in the tune of "all kill".

  19. We could just call it evolution!

The people kept killing the dragons... and then a singular Superdragon was born, a freak. The superdragon killed the players back and managed to live to breeding age. The dragon gene pool now has, say, 50% of the dragons expressing genetic characteristics from that original Superdragon.

    Or perhaps,

The Ancient Wyrm got out of its hole one day and had a good time with the female dragons in the upper level of Destard... and the changes to the dragon gene pool we see today reflect that influx of Ancient Wyrm genetic material.

Im sure there are more Ultima-like storylines out there to be thought up, but these could work if you really want! [IMG]. I liked Connor_Graham 's.

  20. Aye, but the new dragon wearables are bugged and don't show up on the avatar, so they look the same.

After seeing these dragons in person, I think it's one of those technicalities that remains in a metagame context.

It'd be like trying to explain why during the Age of Shadows, we were able to suddenly perform some new combat moves. Something that was limited by the game mechanics, not creative direction.

So in summary, seems dragons just have some new tricks up their sleeves. Best to just ignore the sudden appearance since they still are dragons. Infact I welcome it. Being able to solo something as awesome and majestic as a dragon kind of makes them feel small.
