is UO PvP fun?
As long as its not Yew fighting yeah, and tamers can be somewhat of an annoyance.
Just say no to Yew. The fun part is listening in Vent/TS... whether winning or losing THAT is what makes PvP fun
Unless it is an organized 1v1 or 2v2 type thing with a level playing field equipment wise. If it comes down to the equipment people are running with or overwhelming numbers or whatever instead of individual or small group tactics then it is just lame, in my opinion.
There is charm to each. 1vs1, teams, and all out open no holds barred, and everything in between.
Every since death was taken out of the game. Not much is fun.
I feel the same way, so I voted "No."
I like 1v1s, 2v2s are also fun, but anything more then that with equal numbers is pretty irritating. its just a trickle down effect. Soon as the other side loses a player, its like playing dominoes. 5v5, 5v4, 5v3, 5v2, 5v1, win.
Otherwise i voted yes, pvp in other games is kind of crappy. Speed hacking is a problem in uo, but other then that, things are fairly nice.
While I used to love uo pvp back in the day I would say pvp in uo today pales in comparison to what daoc and then wow offered in their prime.
I only play for the PvP. While I do other things it all revolves around getting the fight going.
Last night I was part of a raid our 4 vs 8-9 and it was a great time. Champ died and both sides got some scrolls. They accepted our votes of a well defended champ and we recieved thier collective rants but it was a fun time and lasted 20-25 mins in total.
Yew sucks. One almost needs a blue faction player just so you can avoid the gank from the non-factioned players whilst trying to just get a good faction fight going.
Yes, because there are so many ways to do it.
I find its better when there is a RP context to it. Just hanging around the Yew gate waiting to commit a murder, or waiting for a red to come through so you can commit a murder without karma-loss is pointless to me in a MMORPG. I can do that in SOCOM or Splinter Cell.
Factions used to have a point, but there is very little point to the fiction behind the current factions now. British ain't coming back, we now have Queen Dawn. Shadowlords are defeated. Minax is in hiding. Council of Mages...all the reasons they had for rebelling against True Brits no longer exist now that Dawn and a reformed RBG are in place. Factions basically became an excuse to...well...wait at the Yew gate and murder people without losing karma or getting a count a long time ago. I'm hoping the revamp makes it fun again and has better fiction this time around. Then again, its like the Devs are not listening to us on what changes need to be made to factions when we give feedback, so...meh.
But pvp in the role playing communities is fun, meaningfull and fullfilling. And when the EMs have given us a reason to do it, it has been great. And I think the new arena dueling system will be a blast. If you brag about how great you are in Chat and then not go to the arena and accept a duel to back it, I can't think of a more perfect pvp example of FAIL. Infact I think a penalty for losing a 3 fights in a row should be 30 minutes where you can't type in Chat.
pre AOS I couldn't wait to come home and PvP. Since then, PvPing is about as fun as stabbing myself in the eye.
I love all the people that are crying how pvp sucks now...pvp is fine, you just suck at it!
If you have played UO for any amount of time (12 years here) then you know that the only constant is change. Currently with all the new skills and Imbuing, plus faction arties...you have been given the ability to play almost any template one can think of.
Post on these boards that its dark at night and 50 people will tell you 200 ways it's not...
Well... as long as you're not impossibly outnumbered and/or being chased by speed hackers it's fun.
There is no 1v1 combat in Felucca though. Which sucks.
Its like anything in life you get back what you put in! for every person who likes it the way it is there are just as many that dont !
generally i like pvp but prefer it in the field or at a spawn and not at yew gate.
Come on a red at yew gate and u have 5 blues on you. come on a blue to yew gate and stand around looking at each other. my take anyway.
i like wandering the spawns and seeing who is around or having our guild stealth in there and wait till the champ is about up and than raid and try to take it.
i like studying the spawns and looking for the best ways to fight them using the lay of the land as an advantage.
also i like dueling 1v1 mage temp on mage temp or dexxer on dexxer.
i'd like to see a bit less of the dreadmare / archer temp du jour but it can be beaten if u know what ur doing.
i hope that some of the shannegins get addressed in the coming months and if successful i'd venture to say pvp would get better.
UO PvP is still my favorite out of any mmo's... I just havn't done it as much since all of the people sh*t talking, all the ganking, and all the speeders people run! Hopefully the speeders will be fixed soon though. The new chat system explodes with pvp cussing etc at each other.
I can't say due to the fact I don't pvp. However, based on some of the commentary I see, I am going to say No for those that don't frequent Stratics.
That's what I love about UO pvp. Let's say you and one other guy are fighting 8-9 people. You can still use environment to your advantage and as long as you have good templates you can actually kill some of them.
In other games this is impossible.
That's exactly why it's not fun. I need more than my kilt, some regs and skill to PvP.
I'm against the idea that people are forced to craft and PvM more than they PvP if they wish to be self sufficient.
just my opinion, but that's the reason I refuse to PvP now. Ever since AoS I've yet to even read about what any of the new skills are. And it seems also most PvPers are using the new skills, as if it's a need be. I also have a problem with me spending years to build a character I LOVE playing, but then being forced to turn that character into something I do not want it to be.
What your saying is that you're lazy and want to just turn on UO and play. I exclusively PvP. I dont PvM at all. So what you are saying is complete false. Granted it takes 6-7 days to get a toon completely done. This is much better than the endless hours of gathering regs, killing lichs, and w/e else was needed before AoS. Classic shards arn't coming back, thank god. This game is more balanced now than ever. No other game can you get away from or even kill people out numbered. PvP in this game has always been the best, and will continue to be so.
I"m no huge PvPr but I voted anyway, and I said No. I just don't see how maintaining a Win/Loss record can be any fun. Now if there were apparent goals (and I don't mean factions), Capture the Flag or something of old, maybe, but to simply start a fight, win/loot/put items on a vendor, or loss/get looted/go buy your stuff off of a vendor....I don't get it. In the old days, when the Rush of Adrenaline inspired one to PvP, yeah, but today, I don't find the Rush of Old....but I could say that about a lot of things...13 yrs can take the Rush away from anything I suppose..
The only thing I remember being funny with regards to Vent/Chat proggies, was hearing the Old voices mixed in with the teeny/thiny ones, Bart Simpson meets Sam Elliot....yeah, that was Funny, but not Fun....
I enjoy rpvp, but not outright pvp in the ganking mindset.
I highly doubt in 6-7 days you farmed all the Artis, mats and whatever else to make your PvP suit...
The most annoying thing back then was taking the time to fit over 200 macros on your standard keyboard ha.
As for the lazy comment, sorry but i think letting your items do the killing compared to pure skill is lazy. Not trying to start a troll fest, just commenting back.
I havn't done pvp since AoS. I don't get enough play time to gather the goodies or make enough gold to buy the goodies to compete in the item wars.
Heck, just up until last year I was still running around in GM plate
If ever I can acquire the needed items I will give it a go.
So until then I'm neutral.
Of course there just may be a classic shard before I ever acquire those items so I might never experience modern day item based pvp.
I don't like PVP but also if i would like it my iinternet connection is so bad that i can't do miasma solo.
I ive in country and also if ilove the place where i live there is the problem that the connection is bad, bad, bad
If the connection would be good i would like peerless, champ, not pvp.
fast or slow connection, miasma is super super fast either way. i have a fast isp and i had trouble getting distance between me and miasma to cast spells, thank goodness for wrestling.
there is a lot of truth in this lol, I would howl just listening.
How are my items doing the killing when everyone has the same items? Any how couldnt you farm the ingreds in 6-7 days? I can get enough to make a suit in less than 36 hours. Faction arties are cheap. Do you even play? Did you compete before? It sounds like you just never adapted and think that if we all went back in time you would be better. Guess what, you probably wouldnt.
With faction artifacts and imbuing, the barriers to pvp are extremely low. I can farm enough in a day to get a basic mage pvp suit. make 2 friends and have them donate the points and free 110s and 115 scrolls to finish up the early skills.
I actually made a char with 19million gold in gear right now, 120 in every skill except magery(need to find one for sale is all) that is highly competent in pvp.
It took 7 days. 5 2-3 hour days and 2 4-5 hour days. It was so simple, I laughed. The barriers to pvp are low again. people are just afraid to try or not educated enough in skill gain, and farming to know how best to earn the money to accomplish things.
Yes but these classic shard kids will never believe us.
I dont care what anyone says, you can PvP with all 110's. granted you may need a trapped box, but I carry one of those on all my toons.
