On my Elf Tamer, I went with

    Fey leggings (DCI 20)
CURSED Armor of Fortune (DCI 15)
    Aegis of Grace (DCI 20)

Total = 55, yet KR reports 45 and removing various pieces act as though 45 is the cap.

Also, having a DCI of 45 and a Physical Resist of 44, how do the two relate to each other in terms of damage mitigate/avoidance?

Once I put the DCI together, the Cu's just seemed to mostly miss. He also has a Swords of Prosperity.

Yes, DCI is capped at 45%; however, since Hit Lower Defense ( a weapon property) temporarily lowers the target's DCI by 25% (even lowering it into negatives, for targets without DCI), PvPers will often try to have 60% to 70% DCI on them.

DCI applies to the chance to be hit or be missed.

If a hit is indicated, then Parry comes into play, and your chance to parry is applied (if any). If successful, you parry.

Finally, if you fail to parry, the creature damages you. if the damage is 100% physical, then the damage amount determined is multipled by your physical resist, and that much subtracted from the total damage.

So, if something would hit you for 50 damage (if you had 0 resist), you would multiply 50 * 44% to get 22. Your resists stop 22 of the 50 damage, and you get hit for only 28 points damage. Another way of writing this would be

    "zero-resist damage" times (100-target resist%) = damage done
    50 times (100%-44%=56%) = 50 times 56% = 28

(if you were riding a swamp dragon with armor, that number would get another 10% or 20% reduction, depending on if the armor was normal or exceptional).

If the creature or weapon does multiple types of damage (say 70% Physical, and 30% cold), and would do 50 damage to 0 resists -

    50 times 70% is 35
    50 times 30% is 15

Now, against something that has 60% phyical resist and 80% cold resist, this would work out to -

    35 times (100-60)% = 35 times 40% = 14 physical damage gets through
    15 times (100-80)% = 15 times 20% = 3 cold damage gets through

    14+3 = 17 total damage.

Ok, so DCI is a Damage Avoidance system and The Resists are a Damage Mitigation System.

Now I dont have Parry, well I do have 10% by Jewelry, but there is supposed to be a Damage Avoidance system in place when I have a Weapon equipped. In this case, the Swords of Prosperity, with -0% Magery. Assume his Magery is 110.

Now given the 45% DCI, the 110 Weapon skill vs a Wrestling 130 MoB (throw in tactics and anatomy if they apply) what are my chances of being hit?

When I tamed the 2nd Ice Blue Cu, the Elf was attacked a lot but never seemed to be hit. If I had to estimate, he avoided 30+ attacks, well, he took no noticeable damage. Meaning I accept the Damage Mitigation could have left a very low damage number.

With 45% DCI, 110 weapon versus an attack by 120 skill (the calculator on stratics won't do numbers over 120, as it is set up for PvP), the attacker has a 37% chance to hit. With no -0 mage weapon in hand, you don't get that 110 skill, and will be hit practically every single time.

As 110 vs 110 is 34%, I would guess that a 130 skill attacker would hit about 40% of the time, with the defender being 45% DCI, 110 skill and no parry.

only 10 parry skill, with a dex of 100, only gives a 1% chance of a parry (it's based on what you have to parry with (shield, 1-hand weapon, 2-hand weapon), your dex and the parry skill - as well as bushido, if it is possessed, as it gives penalties to shield use and bonuses to 2-handed weapon use)

If you don't mind the look of wearing a quiver you could use a quiver of inifinity and drop the AOF to stay at 45% DCI.

Uhm, good point and I have a number of those artie quiver things.

I will take a look and see what I can do there and what that enables me to improve on.

Just curious, is there a Mage -0 Bow/CrossBow out there?

I use a Mage Weapon -24 bow all the time at peerless hunts with MHC, while wearing jewelry to offset the skill loss.

That allows me to cast elementals & evs on the peerless (usually meliande), get more damage in, and save my mana (I have about 35% LMC with the magery jewelry on, 40% with my normal set) to cast greater heals on the tanking pets and dispel revenants.

Again thanks for the Information, I think I have a -21 Bow in there some where, I may just start keeping it on him along with a Full Quiver.

So is DCI capped in toto at 45? Isnt that only on PvP?

Also, I heard additional DCI can negate the effects of Hit Lower Defense in PvP.
This is only what i've heard though, so I could be talking out of my ass here.
    :/
