So lately I've been using the EC more then the CC. It really is a mix of somethings being easier to do in one vs. the other. I'm doing my best to let the animal thing go. There are going to be somethings I do not like they way they look in the EC, I am working on getting over that. Given the impression that there is a limited team working on UO I do wish they would pick a team EC or CC and just work on one. I understand that this might do some major damage and may even cause people to quit. Though I think if the team just focused on one client it would be better at least in the long run. So not that it really matters and knowing it's going to be hard to do I am going to stick too the EC and roll with it.

I just can't do it. I hate the EC. Funny thing is, I played in the old "3d" version and did not start paying what is now called CC until I moved to Siege Perilous. The old 3d just was not fast enough for SP. There is no resemblance between the 3d of old and EC. I understand there are things that are easier in EC, but if I can't stand to general feel of the game, nothing will likely get me on that client.

As for your point, concentration on one client... that horse left the barn when they created Kingdom Reborn and then settled for this EC / CC compromise.

Talk about an attention grabbing thread name!

I never had a use for the old 3d client. The KR client never worked properly for me. I now use the EC about 99% of the time. After playing with the EC for so long, the CC just doesn't do it. On top of that, playing UO (CC) with a little playscreen that only covers 1/4 of my monitor is absurd. I have come to love and live by the EC, and for normal game-play will never return to the CC. My only uses now for the CC are when I am running 3 clients on the same computer at IDOC's or when I am using my cell phone internet connection (3G or low signal 4G) to connect to the game which is usually only if I'm out of town without normal internet and have a chance to log in.

I also recall at one point they were going to eventually phase out the classic client, however that idea was scratched as stated in this thread.

*Chuckles* Surprised no one hasn't come in with a joke yet :p

Any-who...I actually like the newest client, once you spend a little bit of time getting a hang of it it isn't really that bad. However, I have played using the CC client for so long it just isn't easy to let it go. But if they were ever to drop the CC once and for all I wouldn't have any trouble going to the 3d client.

Basically you have a couple of methods to create macros in the EC. The most basic one is to drag the spell icon or item in question into a hotbar slot, choose a target and choose a hotkey. For more complicated and more powerful macros, in the Main Menu you'll find a MACROS option. That opens up the "Macro builder" that lets you set up more complex strings of macros that can then be given an icon to put into a hotbar slot (or just set a hotkey and have them in the background). Any specific macro you want to set up, hop on over the the EC board and post the question and the EC peeps will tell you how to set it up.

Drop the healing spell or bandage into a hotbar slot, right click to bring up the context menu, choose Target, then Stored, you'll get a target cursor, click on the pet, then choose the hotkey you want it set to. Instant heal macro for that specific pet.

For me that's the CC. I tried the EC and , in spite of all it's neat bells & whistles, don't find it to be a good UI in my opinion. Should they drop the CC my interest in playing UO, no matter how fun it's great content is, would not last long. Great content, but bad access to that great content, just doesn't work for me.

The plan to close down the CC client required 95% of players to be using the newer client.
It's rather obvious by now that that figure isn't reachable.
I reluctantly converted to EC when my new video card didn't like being forced off it's default screen resolution to make the CC play window big enough for me to see - now I'm totally used to it and perfectly happy playing in it.
My reluctance was based on headaches and nausea that I used to get playing in it. These were fixed by making sure the 'max framerate' in the game was set to match the refresh rate of my monitor and turning off footsteps.
Another problem I had was playing 'windowed' caused enormous lag, but playing full screen made it impossible for me to monitor icq etc while playing. The solution to this was to uncheck 'show window frame'. The difference that made was enormous.

That's what she said.....I'm sorry but the title required it...

If you run the PINCO's UI MOD on the Enhanced Client, you will never go back to the CC. I was a hell bent classic client user until I told my self I was giving it a month, the mouse wheel targeting and macros ...Select next mobile, honor, attack, lightening strike....and the health bar percentage(PINCO's), loot bags, loot organizer....just fantastic.

I have some sort of memory leak problem that I get sluggish if I stand in place too long (crafting)....but all in all everyone should make themselves play a month....you won't go back. Just remember that PINCO's UI is a must or the EC is just a fancy CC and not worth the change.

I was dead set that the EC sucked and I was CC all the way, than Pinco`s came along and thats how it started. Using it for certain things, than it just became the norm and now I don`t even have CC installed on my PC. No CC/cartographer,automap,assist or any of those relics used with the CC. Its all here in the EC/Pinco`s.

And really I can not see the difference anymore in graphic,if anything its better. Seriously have you seen a swamp dragon or a ki-rin in the EC? Bad ass.

I know for me,its the settin a loot bag, right click looting and grid view that sealed the CC`s fate(plus a ton of other things I won`t gush about...Intensities!). No more dragging one item ata time out of those lev 6 t map boxes. Now open, loot the 10-15 lootable items and move along. Pure funcionality,so much easier and the only complaint I had with EC has been fixt which is fishing.

I totally flip flopped. Now a days I would just quit playing if I had to go back to the CC OR not use Pinco`s. Its that good.

All of your stuff gets piled randomly, all over the backpack, for the classic client users. So in EC, it looks like your vendor is all pretty in its gridline view, but in CC, its just a big pile of stuff on top of each other.

Actually it does not go in randomly. It goes in a column that stacks pretty much on top of each other when viewed in CC.

If you were selling lets say recall scrolls it would be fine and make the pack look nice but when it is all kinds of different items makes it very difficult to shop on your vendor.

I agree Pinco's is vital. The EC out of the box without it is a sad travesty of a sick joke as a UI. But the CC is a shining light over the EC's lump of dung, come on... <laughs>

all i can say is i have no issues stocking in EC using legacy containers and no grid.

didnt trust it at first and used to check in CC that everything displays fine, which it does, now its EC only, with no worries about checking.

Honestly there are too many positives for me to list why i prefer it over CC, ill just say it makes my in game experience easier pretty much on every level.

    //Hurrah for pinco!

Then they go shop and buy from a vendor whose stock is neatly arranged, and ignore your vendor whose stock is a jumbled pile.

If you want to sell more, you need to have your merchandise neatly arranged and easily looked through by anyone who comes to your shop. Otherwise you will lose most of the CC users as customers since we see just a jumbled pile. We'll go on to the next vendor.

There is a setting in the EC to see a Legacy backpack. From what's been said, vendors stocked using that setting will show the same way for those using the CC.

Just like both the old 3d client and the KR client, if you do it right, noone should be able to tell which client you used to stock a vendor. In the 3d client it was a box the size of the 2d container in the top left of the container. In KR, it was a bit more difficult, but if you put something small like a gold coin in the four corners and spread things out a bit, it turned out fine. In the EC, there's the classic freeform view to work with.

I've reached the point now where I never use freeform anyway, simply grid or list view, so it doesn't really matter how a vendor is stocked to me as long as it has what I'm looking for, I will find it. Just seems like another way the EC gives you more access to me.

If the EC client could do everything UOA does then I wouldn't mind using it but until then... It's CC for me. Mainly the ability to assign any macro to any key/mouse button would be great.

    Examples are

Cure potions - Mouse Middle click
Heal Potion/Heal Stone Wheel Mouse Down

Mounting/Dismounting pets - I'm not even sure if there is a macro for this. I'm sure there is.

Also if you're able to do the above things let me know that would be great to figure out.

Also Can you run UOCartographer with EC?

There are pretty much only 2 or 3 things that "force" me into the old CC.

One trading with people is still FOR<KEd....... and I still have to go into the CC to trade with CC users. Drives me NUTS. Or I give the stuff to a CC friend have them arrange it and hand it over to the CC user.

Two Can't seem to do roof tiles while decoing in the EC because NONE of the tags are there telling you which direction the tiles are. Also in custom mode the EC doesn't like house tiles on lvl 1.... it makes them all orange.... and you also can NOT erase them. VERY annoying.

Three.... you can't make "broken" stairs in the EC because when you design in the EC it treats stairs as an object unlike the 2d client which treats stairs like walls.... When you tell the EC to make walls invisible it removes only walls stairs are still left behind..... Also stairs in the EC will not "vanish" with Circle of Transparency.... because they are an "object" not a "wall"..... VERY annoying. So in the 2d client when you make walls invisible the stairs vanish and you can see your teleport tiles below them and delete them creating the broken staircases..... YOU CAN'T do that in the EC. And I do like my deco so this is a MUST have for the EC.

The solution in my book would be to make the stairs act the same in BOTH clients and make them "Walls" not objects. Also the "best" thing would be to make stairs a tiled object like roofs.... so I can "build" them one part at a time..... this would allow us to build stages..... raised platforms.... bridges and such on our homes. Would be AMAZING.... however one thing would NEED to be added to the coding..... do not make level 1 block ..... treat level one like it was free..... only make the 2nd to 4th levels require a space above. But adding this to the game would allow some Truly awesome designs the likes of which will blow you away! Stairs are a tiled object to begin with why you only gave them to us in "clusters" is beyond me.

I haven't logged into or patched the EC in ages. Nice to see Jeff say for life. I don't think I could ever get used to the muddiness of the EC and would probably quit if they got rid of the CC.

I'm not saying I don't agree with you, though. I have a hard enough time making animated sprites for fun, I can't imagine what it's like for the art team let alone the engineers to bug test two clients. Seems like it would be much better for the state of the game if they focused on one. I just wish they would create a new, true 3D client, but that boat is long since sailed, I guess. And sunk, by undead pirates.

I think a true 3D would be great, but no chance of resurrecting the Titanic.

EA just needs to hire a company which makes good UI's for games and let them redo the EC from the ground up. Richard Garriott clearly had such people when the CC was written and it shows. Just putting known good UI features into a game client doesn't result in a good game client You can imbed diamonds and other expensive gems into a piece of charcoal and still not have a popular piece of jewelry many would wear.

I am not sure what mouse you use - but I have been able to reassign the buttons in the Enhanced Client. I use one of the Logitech Programmable ones and what I do is set the macro (Use Potion in your example - just drop the potion into the hot bar) and then assign the keystroke to an obscure key combination in UO - and then in the mouse software - assign the button to the key-combination. It has worked fine for me.

For mounting an ethereal - just drop it in the hot-bar and assign the macro key. I believe there is a mount option based on a stored target and a dismount option - but I always use the ethy so I am not positive. I'll see if I can find it when I get off work later.

I believe that both UOCartographer and UOMapper work with the EC as well from comments I have heard on the boards here - but I've never used them.

It'd be great... for a different game. UO needs to be how UO is.
