    Well I finally got KR to work when I replaced my video card for my Gateway desktop. Now my wife wants to replace the pc with a laptop, but I don't want to get one that won't run KR. Can someone enlighten me on makes/models that will run KR and the like? thx

    I occasionally run KR on a 3 1/2 year old Gateway M460 laptop. It has 1 GB of RAM, upgradeable to two but I haven't gotten around to doing that yet. The operating system is Windows XP Professional. If you want to know more about the machine I'm using, just PM me and I'll try to figure it out for you. Not too much of a techie when it comes to figuring out where to find and interpret a lot of the system specs.

    The only times I crash with KR running are when there's way too much going on in the way of sounds and particle effects, e.g., in Destard with about 8 snarling, snapping, spell casting things piled on top of the tamer and pet. Haven't tried using KR in a really big group setting like an event. Probably won't try it either unless I upgrade the memory.

    Be sure to read the thread in the KR forum about optimizing your setup. Good info in there and it helped me quite a bit. (http://vboards.stratics.com/showthread.php?t=122985)

    Typically, you'll want a laptop that has an Nvidia or ATI video setup. The others tend to have the issues. Also, go to microsoft every few months, and keep your directX end user runtime up to date.

  4. AND one that has dedicated video memory, not shared memory. I've tried on a laptop with shared memory and just too many issues.

    These are the specs of one I"m looking at..

    # 17-inch LCD screen
    # 2.1 GHz AMD Turion X2 RM-72 processor
    # 320 GB hard drive
    # 4 GB RAM (8 GB maximum)
    # Dual-layer LightScribe DVD±R drive
    # Quad-mode Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n)
    # ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics (up to 1918 MB total)<---------- problems?
    # Windows Vista Home Premium (64

    The specs say up to 2 gig of "available" memory, that would be shared not dedicated right?

    You'll have no problems running KR (or the up-comming SA) with that laptop. Just remember that they get HOT when being used for some time.

    Burnt my lap using mine one day while i was busy doing a Bod run :)

  7. Ya that shouldnt be too bad. I can play on a similar laptop and that onboard gfx chip is much better than mine.

    I got a 2GHz AMD Turion x2 with an ATI x1250. 3Gb ram.
    It gets a little laggy when lots of stuff is going on. But its bearable.

    :)

    ...

    As stated, the main thing is getting an ATI or Nvidia card with at least 256M dedicated graphics memory. Secondary is at least 2 gig DDR RAM.

    KR funs fine on a Acer spire 4730Z

    * Intel T3200
    * Intel 4500M
    *2GB DDR
    * 14.1" screen*

    * The screen makes it a bit tough though at times. Its almost small enough to be worth using 2D. Hehehe.

  10. Heh... I'd suggest wearing pants next time!

  11. I'd suggest waiting until July to buy a new PC. Windows 7 will be out in a few months and if you buy after July 1 you will get a free upgrade. It should be a lot less of a hog than Vista and your gaming experience and PC in general will run better.

    I wouldn't buy a PC right now unless a downgrade to XP was included.

    Not much different than what I have (I have a different version of the ATI Radeon and less RAM), and I have no problems with KR at all.

    Except that I can't run it outside of full screen mode.

    Question from a technology-challenged person :lame:

    I'd like to get an inexpensive laptop primarily for playing UO (haven't played the game in ages and would rather not spend any more than I have to). I'm looking at the following sites/models, and would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

    Note: My present lifestyle/situation doesn't make a desktop computer the best choice for me, which is why I'm only looking at laptops.

    One tiny thing about laptops and KR: because there's some fairly heavy use of the graphics acceleration, laptops will likely have to crank up the fan speed and power consumption so they will tend to be a little noisier and have shorter-lived battery life than when you are using them to browse the web or running office.

    If I choose 2d rather than KR, would that problem still apply?

    Im no computer genius so my advice might not be of interest ^^

    I use Dell Laptop from the XPS series and i works like a charm. I have absolutley no problem at all running 3 diffrent games at the same time. I think they might be a bit more expensive but you might be able to buy one for a nice price if you look at the secondhand market.
