Ok I know that probally this has been brought up before, But A friend of mind in the game ask me this Question when he ask me why do i play KR when I could play 2d KR (has he puts it) and not have the hassles of lag, choppyness and so on....

1.What do you Benefit by playing KR Vs 2D?
2.Does KR have things that 2d doesn't(besides graphics and a fancy macro)?
3.Is there more things in KR then in 2D?(Ok what i am guessing with this one is he means do you get better armour, weapons ect......)

So i sat and thought [IMG]Hmmmmmmm what Does KR have over 2D game playing wise,I couldn't think of a thing...so i thought i would just toss these questions out there to see if there was something that Kr has that 2D doesn't other then graphics and a better macro system.

    Thanks Kiara

Depends on if you consider KR vs 2d directly or KR vs 2d + UOA/UOAM/etc.

From a straight client to client comparison, KR is MUCH more advanced than the 2d client in terms of usability. This includes the macro system, the hotbars, container view choices, zoom feature, and a larger resolution.

Graphics of course are in the eye of the beholder, but I find them to be MUCH better.

However KR's main issue is one of performance. For me, it runs like a champ. For other systems, not so much (mainly due to graphics cards and memory).

For a lot of veteran players it's a question of familiarity vs the willingness to change.

From a playstyle standpoint, crafters and melee players will get the most benefit from the KR client while mages and tamers are having problems with the targeting system.

My best advice is to try them both out, but give yourself the time to learn each system from square one and go with the one that works best for you.

Yea I read that but what i think he was talking about was game play or advantages say crafting a sword in 2d Vs KR.... or say creatures you may see in KR but not in 2D( if there is any)...*shurgs* [IMG]

  5. well kr has some cool stuff to it but the big question to start is how it runs on your system my older computer has a hard time wih kr while my new laptop runs it like a champ. that being said i hate the container art and havent played it enought to get to like it or pass judgement

The advantage to crafting in KR over 2d is "batch" processing. Instead of having to click for each item, you can set the game to make a certain number out of a given material. Works great if you're making a 100% success item for BODs or Heartwood quests.

Right now, there are no creatures you can only see in KR, however the look of the creatures can be MUCH different... for example:

    Red Solen Warrior:

It is actually more of a question of is Kingdom Reborn an upgrade worth doing? The vast majority answer no, which is why the KR is suffering from the same fate Third Dawn did.

    There you go again.

    Sorry, but the trends disagree.

While KR has yet to "tale the UO world by storm", the number of users is constantly growing as is the numbers of consecutive logins.

KR is doing MUCH better than the 3d client.

But hey, let's not let observable trends get in the way of a client bash, hmm?

Only 23 Kingdom Reborn users logged in on Atlantic right now. Our guild has more online than that.

I didn't even KR bash, I just said most people are deciding it is not worth upgrading for a variety of reasons.

Given your history of posting, I'd disagree.

Beyond that though, the dev team has done a MUCH better job on improving the KR client than they ever did with the 3d client (and this from a 3d user), and thus, the acceptance rate has been climbing at a better rate than 3d ever did.

By no means is KR perfect or even close to finished, but the reasons for people NOT upgrading are getting less and less except for stubbornness.

But as I originally stated, for a newer player, it's worth it to D/L both clients and see which one works better.

Personally, for MANY reasons, I find that the KR client works better on my machine (as do some others), but even then I have a laundry list of improvements that I have sent in and continue to update and send as patches come forward.

But it's best to let people have the technical facts of the client and choose for themselves. Simply NOT using a client because "not everyone uses it" is the lazy way out and will probably cause a player to miss out on a feature they find they really need in the game.

Using the only method we players really have easily available although I wouldn't call the results entirely accurate.

However the current method posted has been to either use the /listplayers command in KR or open up the chat window in 2d and look at the number of people in general chat who are "silent".

While it's not 100% accurate, it's the current method of determining KR users at the moment.

Based on what I have seen on LS, the unique names have been constantly growing (I only tracked them for about a months and still see names I didn't have during that time), and the at-once usage has at times doubled from it's higher points during that months' tracking.

No, the numbers don't mean that KR is beating 2d in usage by any stretch, but to claim that noone uses it or that usage of the KR client isn't growing is just as inaccurate.

In short, based on the only metric we have available as players, KR is showing a slow but steady growth.
