This evening I decided to take some of my older pets out for a romp in the woods, Well they all went screaming back to the stables like little girls (sorry Ladies best way I can describe it) I submitted a question to the ask the Dev's forum will wait and see if it gets answered. I asked if they had any plans for older pets like a home for them to retire to

Was just wondering if anyone else has had their older pets out lately and how they did ,I took mine to the abyss and they pretty much did ok but the damage output wasn't very good.

Try putting discord on your tamer and getting frenzy, hellcat or hellhound pack. You will find most things hunted even the mighty GD is slow compared to a disco tamer with a pack. If they had just given the Gaman pack bonus then would of been some notice to us rare tamers. Gaman have great resist but do same damage as a battle chicken, sad I know, big thing like that.

Once you have you pack trained then need to find a tamer that still has a rune beetle and then the real fun starts.

Would be nice if legacy pets received a little bit of love.

Or simply adopt the idea that all pets can be trained to their maximum and beyond, making them take up more control slots as they gain more and more power. (make their training lockable so they don't grow beyond this) Give pets a kind of rating like magical items have now.

So with enough patience and training you could train a White Wyrm to the power of a maximum trained Greater Dragon (and taking up 5 slots)

Heck, with years of work, you could get a regular chicken to the power of the strongest pets.

I have a nice pack of frenzies I am holding on another acct I closed forgot all about them will have to reopen it and transfer them back
and I like that idea Lord Chaos being able to train a pet beyond their natural abilities that would be better than just giving them a buff which is ok I guess but would rather work for the reward rather than have it handed to me

I would like to see White Wyrms regain some of their former clout as top of the foodchain. Perhaps Chivalry to counter Shadow Wyrms' Necromancy. Maybe a once-offered chance to "upgrade" existing wyrms to higher skill/stat caps & control slots, rather than see cherished legacy creatures dumped like so many dragons were when the Greaters came out.

I would really like to see UO turn away from treating pets as disposables. I mean really, do you dump Fido just because he can't run as fast as other dogs? Do you strangle Felix just because other cats are more ferocious.

Pets should be something that can be your "friends" to your character, mean something to you and stay with you throughout the game without gimping you.

I mean really, if a Tamer acted like this in real life, then you'd see them go to the kennel and slaughter all the dogs until a dog with proper stats showed up.

Sadly my old idea was lost with the forum upgrade and I don't have a copy of it, an idea of a 4th skill of Animal Training that can go instead of Animal Taming for control, but Animal Training can train/evolve a pet beyond natural abilities, while tamers can actually tame the pets. So a natural synergy effect would exist between the two. Heck, could even make it so that a trainer could unlock the abilities of the pet for a tamer (if the tamer doesn't have training), while a tamer could tame the pet.

Animal Trainers, if they have lore, get advanced information on the pet (including hidden abilities) and can lock resists and abilities or even unlocking certain others the pet might not otherwise have (A magic wielding goat? heh) All abilities costs points, and whenever you exceed a certain point bracket, your pet goes up in control slots. Some abilities are of course locked to certain pets (like riding)

It would make Animal Training a bit a kin to Imbuing for Magical Weapons and Armor.

Btw, with going instead I mean that you can use either. So if a pet requires 100 in taming to control, you can use 100 Animal Training instead if you want.

Both gives the same amount of stable slots.

Pet communication ring, or something like that. A bow wow wow becomes, hey, I ain't going in there!

Or, move this damn tree, it's in my way!!!!

  9. *choke* *cough* Oh...my...god...

I actually AGREE with Lord Chaos on something :) (don't hit me please)

  10. I LOVE this idea...LOVE IT.

I take back some of the bad things I have said about you in the past...not all of them...but some

  11. I have had one of my dragons, Tiamat, since 1997. She was the first dragon I ever tamed, and in all of these long years, she has never died, well not until bonding. Even still today, she kicks some serious butt vs. other dragons. I have put her up against other dragons that tamers in my guild have brought out, and they were all impressed, and thought she was a greater dragon. She got killed by a trained greater dragon, but not before taking it to half health though. I also have a T2A era nightmare, Rayder...he fights like a Dread Mare, but not close enough.

I really, really, wish both of those pets could be trained further...because I honestly have "bonded" with my older pets...even my Rune Beetle, Pazuzu.

When they introduced Cu's, I had to clear some stable space for one, and it sucked getting rid of my old grey Ossie, then when greater dragons came out, I had to get rid of my old red dragon, also from the T2A era. There should be something that determines a pet's in game age, and if it goes so far, it should be automatically bumped up...like a dragon becomes a greater dragon, if the owner agrees.

I know its silly to develop emotional ties to pets that are not real, but for me, there was a period of time in UO where those pets were the only active friends I had.

  12. These are some really great ideas. No my idea may cause some sleepless nights-but why not allow breeding using the same general idea as plant cross pollination. Breed the best attributes onto your pet. Just an idea...

I would LOVE to own a Greater Rune Beetle...

    Bump dem stats up...

Dreadmares are already powerful enough in PvP, with an Idea like this, there would be almost no point to *Not* having 110 Tame / 115 Lore on your template, and considering dreads are Mountable, therefore Immune to All Attacks unless Dismounted.. Well you get the point.

You cant deny the fact that a 900 HP 60 Damage fireball 120 Wrestle 40 Damage Per Regular Hit Spell Spamming Mount.. Would be terribly strong.

Combine that with the fact that you can run it with almost any kind of template..

AkA Evasion Nodatchi Or Dismount Archer..

    And its deadly.

  17. PvP is imbalanced. Why make everyone else suffer because of it.

I was once a champion of tamers in PvP...I just don't care anymore. Just cap pet damage in PvP and be done with it. Forget the fact that with imbuing that archers can pretty much one shot the tamer, forget the fact that all pets have crappy AI and can be avoided by using terrain, and forget the fact that no one really PvPs one-on-one anymore...that's the least of it. rolleyes: (and we won't even get into speeding and hacking)

Unless there is a Cap implemented with something when it is introduced into the game, yes.. Everything will "Boil down to PvP" Because if it gives you a gross advantage against other people.. people will utilize it against you.

  20. Wait a minute...

...I wasn't the one that took it there.

It's not about PvP in this instance. It's about pet owners and their pets. We use them how we see fit.

Don't lock this thread, there are some really good ideas being shared here.

    ...

Yes, restructure you build or dont bother? What about people who don't want to have to restructure their tamer just to use something other than a cu/rune/dread/dragon?

Anyway, I wont get into the details about how I feel about taming in UO. I love taming, but... yeah I have gripes.

That being said, I would LOVE to have Bushido/Honor extend to pets.

If I have 120 Bush on my Tamer, and I Honor something, my pet should "gain perfection" against whatever I have honored and get a dps increase accordingly.

I also wouldn't mind items for pets. Collars, bracelets, head guards. Something that can add small bonuses to pets, and make them more unique.

Don't forget that its extremely easy to drop a tamed GD with a dragon slayer book and myst. Takes me 4-5 Hailstorms on my tamer who is NOT geared for damage/PvP to drop a 800+ HP GD.

I had seen my 936 HP 84/90/50/58/72 123 Resist Magic dragon drop to 3 people in about 6 seconds at a spawn from focus fire.

The people who complain about pets are the terrible terrible players. I lag on my server, and I can still easily evade pets during raids/pvp.

But I wish they would do something to seperate PvP and PvM. I love my tamer, but honestly, if I can solo peerless on my Sampire, when I finish his suit I will just retire my tamer for the most part.

That's the problem, it shouldn't because too often PvP either isn't taken into account or it isn't tested when designing new pets or maybe just maybe, they don't have a means internally to establish a difference between players and any random monster that's floating around.

My Advice, the devs should (if they don't) place some type of flag on all Player Characters, then when developing new monster have them fall under all the same Caps and restrictions if their current target is a Player as another player would.

I've never had a White Wyrm, a Greater Dragon or a Cu Sidhe. But I have a fire steed, white wolves, a squirrel, a drake, raptors, etc. And I play with them. The only bad thing is their stats raise really slowly. And animals with 1-1 dmg are stuck with that even at 125 str.
Otherwise I hunt nicely with my nightmare, dragon, unicorn, rune beetle and dread.

How exactly are you immune to all attacks on a Dread Mare? If you were, then tamers would be invincible.

Heh, kinda had the same, but with a White Wyrm instead called IceAngel. It was bugged in some way, it was massively powerful and faster than regular pets.

I remember talking to a friend and 3 PK mages attacked, dropping me and throwing EVs on my White Wyrm, it dispelled the EVs and chewed up the reds, I found it some 20 screens away over the corpse of one of the reds who had been fleeing.

I even had it take on an AW head to head.

Sadly when pets got stats it got "nerfed" and ceased to be fast and powerful. :(

    Yes, amen to that.

Sorta the same, apart from my wife, they were my "buddies" in game.

Heh, reading backwards up through the thread. But I do agree with you on more points than I appear to.

I guess we can put down our weapons and quit breaking noses now, hehehe.

scary ...... that's all I have.... scary that for once I agree with Lord Chaos and Morgana LeFay....... never thought I'd see the day.....

I still remember the day I lost my beloved WW ...... Ice....

We (the YM)... were off to Doom..... but in our way stood a big bad Bone Dragon.... well.... battle it we did..... but just before the thing fell it killed my beloved Ice... only not only did it Kill him...... but it released him from me and killed him.... I stood in horror... my eyes welling with tears as I stared in disbelief at the dead body of my beloved friend.

Dear Trilla has never been the same... she wrote an "ode" to her beloved pet and gave him a memorial (which later fell sadly)... but I still get a little misty eyed when I think of it.

They are my dear beloved friends... my pets... for each and every one of my 6 or so tamers...

I've often daydreamed about feeding my old WW or Hiryu a +25 stat scroll..... or a 120 magery scroll..... or something like that. Figuring you could add about 5 such scrolls to them.... or something... I don't know. Or if they had special Scrolls for animals....

Though I very much like that training idea... or breeding.

Breed my WW with an Ancient (dangerous business to be sure!).... and get a Greater WW egg..... to hatch and raise... that would be totally awesome.

*You've beaten the Ancient Wyrm into submission... it will now accept being bred*....

    *gives an evil drowish grin*

If they bring animal breeding into the game, by default, they also need to bring animal contraceptives in too.

I don't want to know what my pets would get up to, alone in the stables...

The Dreadmare, being a mount, is immune to all attacks unless the player is dismounted.. You cannot attack a Mount while it is mounted.

  32. Coppelia

    Coppelia Guest

But a dread can't attack while mounted, right?

  33. I think the complaint here is that the tamer can jump onto the mount to prevent it from dying...right?

I got rid of an untrained ostard to get a Cu. I don't have any other pets I would give up so no more new pets for me I guess.

I took my red dragon out recently and he was ok, but just ok. He's a freaking dragon! He should still kick some serious butt!

They can do the same with a Cu or Hiryu

  38. Vaelix

    Vaelix Guest

Which is exactly why, Dreadmares, Greater Hiryus, and Cus are vastly superior in PvP Compared to Non-Mountable Pets.

  39. chuckoatl

    chuckoatl Guest

dreads are vastly superior to cus or greaters. I can kill a cu in 3 FS, and a greater hiryu in 3 hailstorms.... no slayer for a dread.

And pet PvP has its weaknesses. You seperate the tamer from the pet and they are both toast. Hell you poison a mount when the other is a dexxer they are usually screwed.
