Today i'm posting all those things which are on my mind. i think this is the final one...

Everyone seems to be on a mission to promote ele weaps as underused and under-rated, so here's the bee in my bonnet that's equally undervalued - the lesser hiryu.

I used to use them for light PVP (honour/petball + all kill/lesser dismount ability/nerve strike/LS/LS gimp ftw) when they were actually effective and LS used to do 100 damage with honouring players lol. that wasn't overpowered, was it? :stir:

Ayways, back to the point. Let's set the scene - Dread horn soloing.

I've been going in on my sammy after collecting keys with my disco tamer. I'd been thinking thi is fairly tame, how can i squeeze more damage out of this template... so i figured I'd bring a lesser along.

I'd get to the key spot and log out/in to summon my lesser, whilst riding my swampy. I'd use the main key after casting EoO and drinking some pots, run up to the Dread, honour and whack away.
Once i've got a rhythm I'll shot "all kill" and target. Now, i would have thought dread would swap targets and kill my hiryu, but he hasn't yet... as long as he targets me first we're good for the whole fight. With a bladed staff that means my time has dropped from ~15 mins to ~9-10 mins. I think this is not only because of my hiryus damage output (about 35 per hit, with quite a few double strikes) but also due to his ability to lower the dreads physical resist, allowing non-crits and non AI to do more damage.

I think this will work on rikki when i can eventually toe-toe him, as occasionally at the moment i have to joust - still finding the right weap - but who else? Putrifier? Semidar? Melisand? Does anyone else do this? Which peerless/bosses/champs switch targets - it's hard to tell when fighting solo!

NB: this is not a trained lesser, but I'm considering finding an exceptional one and putting in the time just for this cause.... Again has anyone tried this before i commit?

Wow... I feel like a moron for not considering hiryu's special moves in their usefulness.
Boura can be nice, but they can also be a huge hassle.

Seems it'll be useful to collect info on lesser hiryus.

One test having my hiryu attack me, lowered phys resist by 9. Seems like an odd number.
Yep, double checked. Against my human char it's lowered by 9.

In my experience, for dread horn, it's best to wait like 4 or 5 minutes before putting the bird on DH to avoid him switching targets.

In fact, I'll usually tell him to stay at the south end of the island, and then when I think i'ts ready I'll tell him to all follow me, then all stop, so he gets hit by DH's AoE and the aggro goes that way. I've had the best results.

I had my son just tame one for me. It took a long time, but what surprised me is it is at 110 wrestle already.

I bonded a nice pair of lesser boura to my pvp archer, figuring they would be kinda fun. They can be controlled with human JOAT, have 550 hp, and do 20-40 dmg..

Haven't had time to train them and they don't follow fast so seem to be more pain than they are worth. But for PVM, if you are tanking, anything you can do to update your damage would be good. Could go with swampy+2 lesser boura, or swampy+lesser hiryu+1 slot pet (natures fury? summon fey?) lol

Definitely you are going to want to train them, higher weapon skill means higher chance of hitting, which means more damage output and more common debuffs...

Although, it can be hard to train them on a character which has no support. So you may want to stone over magery or something to train them on shadow ele for a couple of days.

Realistically, the micromanagement involved renders them almost useless since they decrease your player's damage.
They follow slowly for one, so if you walk anywhere you'll be walking slower. Also require constant supervision or they'll bolt of to kill the mongbat across the screen.

Hm, it seems the Hiryu's double strike only occurs when its enemy is already under the effect of reduced physical resist.
Unsure of the proportion of double strikes to normal hits when double strikes are possible.

    Dismount also seems rather rare.

Yeah they were nerfed for PVP.

In PVM double strikes happen loads... just like a normal hiryu... u must have used them as a tamer SM?

To JD - Aye boura would be an option, but no SA and all my bushi chars are elvenkind, so not for me! I also usually train them up on a full disco tamer...go out SE style with a Lesser and a Bake and wreak havoc on destard and then swoop once they get wrestle around 100 (because of disco lowering attributes)
It's hard to keep a lesser alive vs a GD though, even when discod :p

I've got green ones, midnight blue ones, valorite ones....just not sure if they were any good before i tamed em! Time to start again :p

    Makes sense.

Was training my old one on swoop a little as a test...I'd go in and tank, do a few AIs to get some DPS in and then set my bird on it; now 90% of the time, the bird wouldn't look at it if i used "all kill" but the other 10%...

    Any ideas why?

Nope, i'm just too lazy to keep typing "lesser." After all, this is the Warrior's Forum and warriors can only control the lesser hiryus :p

I agree they are too much maintenence in PVP. With no support skills they die fast at a spawn. Possible only use is while fighting the boss, but then you gotta exit the spawn, use the petball (or logout/back in) - they really aren't for this sort of thing so I quit using them.

Ahh man, they're not for PVP since the nerf, other than a throwaway annoyance, or if your tamer wants an extra toy, you can "friend" to him/her for extra clout no?

The purpose of this thread is just for big boss killing to see who else uses them, and how effective they find them,

I'd like answers to be "yes, very, especially against boss x, this is how i use them effectivly" :p /jk

JD, are petballs really that hard, or is double logging? i do it absolutely tons, whenever i die, or i need to save a pet on my tamer etc etc.... not for 1v1 pvp :D

SM - you don't have a tamer? And there i was thinking you were a "proper" trammy pfft! :p

I find taming boring. Both skill gain and the actual fighting.

Am a bit of a UO-adrenaline junkie, love the thrill of attacking an entire screen of enemies at once and barely scraping out alive.:thumbup1:
Most recent awesome experience like that was getting attacked by 5 reptalons at the same time and somehow surviving.
(by "at the same time" i don't mean 1 after the other, I mean I had 5 attacking in melee range at the same time)

As Garm said, they were nerfed a bit.

Lesser Hiru's used to have a 100% chance to dismount. It was reduced to 20%.

I am however interested on how much physical resist is reduced, duration and if applicable to pvp. I do not see many use them now a days, but then again bushido in pvp has been on the back burner for sometime.

I was taking a loss of 9 phys resist consistently.
70 resist to 61 resist is approximately a 33% total damage increase.

Of course phys resist is usually overstacked just because it's so common on some artifacts.

Man... you used to be able to use petballs without delay, a petwould just appear from thin air!

You could be running alongside some1 and just drop a lesser right on them, they'd be dismounted.... the rest was history ;o)

Happy days for samurai ^_^ Man, we were so overpowered at release :p
