seriously needs to be made easier, to get to 7500 loyalty points killing meers is almost impossible, it would take a few weeks of doing that all day to get that amount of points, and i dunno when meer captains got so many hit points, they used to die in 2 withers

It does not take that long to get to 7500. You just don't want to spend the time and you want it fast and quick.

I done it on 2 chars so far and each one took about 3-4 days and I did not spend all day during that 3-4 days time period to get the loyalty points needed.

    *giggles*

If only... The $3 sub increase only went to line EA's pockets.

The 7500 points gives you the opportunity to speak to Meigen at the Magincia moongate and get his quest to corrupt a book of truth. (Thus, you have to complete the virtue armor quest from Sincade at the Britain moongate.) Once you have a 'Book of Truth' you sacrifice it at the altar in Magincia and you recieve a corrupted book names for your character.

The good side gets nothing once again, while the 'baddies' get a named item.

The good side gets nothing YET. If they run this arc right (and I hope they do), then there should be a reward in the long run for those who were good and showed humility. In other words, hopefully doing the quest to corrupt the book excludes you from doing something else for the good side in the future.

I am not killing two thousand and five hundred Meer for one stinking quest. Or for anything. It's an absolutely jaw-droppingly ludicrous requirement and there should be no one defending it.

It's really swell that you're unemployed and had absolutely nothing better to do for 3 or 4 days than kill thousands and thousands and thousands of Meer on two different characters, but you need to realize that you are not a normal human being.

Even if you have max swing-speed, and can kill any Meer in one hit, and never need to heal, or meditate, or sneeze, or pee, and the Meer just run up to be killed one after another with zero delay in between, it would still take almost an hour to kill 2500 meer.

It takes you two seconds to loot the corpse of each kill? Tack on another hour and a half total. It takes you four or five seconds to run to the next target? Tack on another three-plus hours.

Yeah, that couple seconds running between Meer? You've got hours and hours of JUST THAT ahead of you. If you bother to loot them you've got hours of just picking up gold piles to do.

    It's ridiculous. It's a quest that reads...

    Kill Meer: 0/2500
    Reward: Some book

What person with anything to do would bother?

Does anyone NEED to do it? NO!

Does anyone say you must do it in 3-4 days? NO!

The quest has been out for weeks, you could do 30 minutes - 1 hour killing meers per day and have close to 2 chars done by now.

Am I unemployed? NO! Please do not make unfounded assumptions. Who are you to decided what is normal and not normal. I already stated that I spread it out over 3-4 days and I was not killing meers nonstop during that time.

Who cares? Another mindless grind. This quest and the fishmonger quests have started pushing me from UO. If i wanted to grind like this, i'd go do WOW.

The point is, why kill 2500 of something? Why not make it a quest line with neat things to do? Why just kill this 2500 times? I don't get it.

Doesn't matter if it takes me 1 day or 3, its just not fun at all.

I really don't think it needs to made easier. Yes there are grinds in UO. Personally im not wasting my time with that crap. I didnt waste my time with the original war, and would not even think about getting all the points i would need now.

That being said, if you like a grind for one reason or another, then go for it. If you really want a book with your name on it do the grind. If i had done the original war and didnt have to start from 0 i might do it, becuase hardly anyone is, so the "book of truth" might be very uncommon and eventually be worth some gold even. I dont think i would get my name on it tho unless i used a character with a name that would really go well on a "book of truth."

    'Hopefully' being the key word.

Another word we might use is 'historically'. As in 'historically, the dev team has not provided incentives for players to do the right thing.'

I tend to err on the side of history, sadly. Though I wish they'd pull out a surprise once in a while to prove me (and others) wrong.

The way I look at it is that if you don't feel like doing it then don't. This is only a quest that is purely optional. Also, what is your definition of a "normal human being". I would very much like to know.

What a worthless remark to make. Yeah champ, Cal Crowner didn't come to my house and put a gun in my mouth and tell me to kill thousands of Meer or he'd blow my brains out. I guess as long as he doesn't do that, nothing is unreasonable, right?

I hope the next quest takes a million kills. Hey, after all, it's optional! NBG will probably do it in a week of grinding and then get offended when anyone implies there's anything wrong with his application of free time.

Oh crap I feel a math attack coming on.

    3 days = 4320 minutes
    4320 minutes / 5000 Meer = 0.864 minutes per kill
    0.864 minutes = 51.84 seconds

That means that in order to do two characters in three days you'd have to kill a Meer every 52 seconds basically.

"Pfft that's easy, Skrag! My awesome character takes a lot less time than that to kill a Meer!"

Yeah, but that 52 seconds assumes you don't eat, sleep, work, or go to the bathroom and includes all the time it takes to find your next target and kill it. If you "only" play 8 hours per day for those 3 days, you've got to do all of that every 17.28 seconds for every minute of every hour for all 8 hours.

Does this still sound like a normal human being to you?

Anyway, if you're somewhat less insane and only want to do it on one character, and you can drop 3 Meer per minute consistently then you're still looking at just under 14 hours of continuous killing.

But I don't think the spawn rate will even ALLOW you to sustain 3 kills per minute long-term. You'll end up clearing an area and having to run too far to find the next target. You certainly won't be able to sustain that pace if anyone else is there farming them.

It's a completely stupid requirement and the developers are wasting their time coding quests that only a few crazy people will ever do.

Realistically we can probably at least double that 14 hour figure. Most people are going to need more than a couple hits to kill a meer, will want to stop to loot at least some of the time, are going to get slowed down by the occasional paragon, are going to take a little longer to get kills because someone else is there, whatever.

So let's call it 28 hours of farming. You can do 28 hours of farming, right? Hour a day, you'll be done in a month.

Except some of us do things besides play UO, and some of us want to do things with our UO time besides maniacally farm meer. Especially when the reward is just some book with our name on it, that may or may not have something to do with something else someday.

Thank you Skrag, you have aptly illustrated that this quest is insane.
I reiterate my assertion that someone at Mythic has confused the definitions of ‘Fun’ and ‘Tedious.’

I don`t think its the number of days thats important. Its the number of hours & the fun you had doing this. I probable spent 12 hrs over 2 days going from 2000 to 7500. This was accomplished with a Necro/Mystic/Mage. A character designed for mini-champ spawn. This also doesn`t take into the account time needed farm Virtue Armor.

Ironically, towards the end about half of the meer spawn was trapped behind closed doors. Devs really should remove the doors from the town in Ish. Then I guess closed doors is were you would hide if there was genocide going on.

Why did the Meer never give anything for fighting the Bane?

The really telling thing is that poll someone else put up. Out of 76 voters, 4 had actually completed the quest. Only 1 thought it was okay, the other 3 did it but thought it was a grind.

The other 72 people just didn't bother. And that's here on the forum, where you expect people to be more enthusiastic/hardcore than the average person.

At some point you just have to quit worrying about the poopsocker in the corner calling everyone else lazy, and ask yourself why the developers took the time and effort to code a quest just to have nobody do it.
