Look what I found in today's TC3 Update :O

Discussion in 'EA Land/The Sims Online Stratics Forums' started by mattnotley2004, Apr 3, 2008.

1. C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA-Land\TSOClient\multi-userdata-howto.txt
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA-Land\TSOClient\multi-userdata-sample.ini

These files don't exist in EA-Land, just TC3... reading the howto file, looks like the devs are changing the way multiple accounts work.

The files are dated April 1st 2008. Only a couple of days ago.

thats good, maybe the devs doing something good for a change to end multi accts.

3. Sorry to burst your bubble but that file is in mine dated 3/26/08. I'm guessing that its been awhile since you updated?

Nope... I play in TC3 every day. Not sure why the dates are different.

5. They end multi accounts you can count on a 90 day notice in ur email. Its already been stated that 50% of the players in this game have 2 or more accounts.
I personaly think that they wanna wait till after main. tomorrow to see if an aspect of amnesty is working before they release version notes. Just my guess I may be wrong.

6. I pay and play multiple accounts. If they do away with this I will definitely be ending my days with this game, and I'm sure that I'm not the only person that thinks this way.

Why would they want to do away with multi accounts?

From talking to people in game there are lots of players have more that one paid for account - surely that would be spiting themselves to do this?

They'd be losing maybe (at least) 1/4 of their monthly subs [IMG]

people have been playing with multi accounts since back in the beta days. Why, if thats their intention, would they do anything to that now 6 years later? With multi accounts (assuming at least over half are paying) would be the bulk of TSO business.

You have to be kidding! They make a lot of money selling multiple accounts.

Looking at those files, it looks to me that they are not ending the ability to use multiple accounts. Rather they are changing how it will be done.
I would guess it would be something to do with an uncle sam type thing, making it so they can keep a better eye on what's being done with multiple accounts.
Only thing is, I hope they do a better job of implementing it as I feel a lot of people would have trouble setting it up from that readme file.

That is weird, if they end the multiple accounts they will loose both players and im sure ALOT of money as well.

I have 2 paying accounts, and was actually thinking of getting a 3rd, but I think I will wait with that now and see what happends.

I dont understand what the problem is with running multiple accounts? if we pay for more then 1 we should be able to use them as well, and trade and stuff with our other sims(avatars).

I have 3 accts currently and if I can ever get my store on the map to sell what I have I will downsize to 2 accts, but if they do away with mulitiple accts I too would cancel my accts and so would many other mulitple acct players.

Hasn't there been discussion about being able to run multiple sims... ok avatars ... on one account at the same time? Somewhere there was information about being able to have all your "avatars" living in the same house. Maybe that's what those files are for?

14. Could it have anything to do with with us running multiple avatars like we did in Betaville?

15. *Rolls Eyes*

I don't think the devs are planning in any manner to get rid of us.

In fact, I think that they recognize the fact that those of us with multiple accounts are pretty much in the game for the long haul.

And historically speaking over the last year or two, we probably made up a large portion of the committed player base they probably want to make sure they keep along with all the other long term single account players.

Sorry to pop your balloons, but I don't know a single online game that doesn't in some way allow for multiple accounts. Why should EAland limit itself?

And come on, let's get real...Are you going to tell me EA didn't know I had multiple accounts all these years? I've been paying for all of them using the same credit card. You'd think THAT would give it away along with the fact they all have the same personal info in them. LMAO Yeah ea wants to get rid of us all right.

And I agree with the earlier responder. It very well could do with being able to run more sims on the same account at the same time. That has been discussed and I thought the devs were going to actively look at that possibility.

16. Would be a nice feature. As long as they limit the avatars. Maybe only 2 online at a time.

Otherwise we're going to end up with an unbalanced economy once again.
and we don't want payouts going lower either. [IMG]

These files are instructions for running multiple accounts under a new system.

Running multiple instances of the game

If you have multiple accounts and run several instances of the game at once, you must use a unique UserData directory for each instance.

The UserData directory contains user-specific data such as options and cached files.

To use multiple UserData directories:

1. Create a new ini file in your C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims Online\TSOClient directory

(Quit the game first.)

Navigate to your TSOClient directory

Make a copy of the multi-userdata-sample.ini
Rename the new file as desired.

For this example, I renamed the file to cort1.ini

2. Modify the new ini file

Open the new ini file in a text editor.
The file should look something like this:

[Directories]
; Make sure paths are terminated with a slash...
Runtime=./
UserData=./UserData-Sample/

Change the directory name from "UserData-Sample" as desired.

IMPORTANT: The directory name MUST begin with the word "UserData".

For this example, I renamed the directory to "UserData-Cort1".

[Directories]
; Make sure paths are terminated with a slash...
Runtime=./
UserData=./UserData-Cort1/

3. Add a command line parameter to the shortcuts that you use to start the game

Right-click the shortcut that you use to start the game and select "Properties" from the context menu.

In the "Target:" text box, ADD the "user" command line switch to the end of line.

The "user" command line switch is of the form:

-user:inifilename

For my example, I would add the switch:

-user:cort1.ini

4. When you start the game, a new UserData directory will be created, using the name you specified in the ini file during step 2.

5. Repeat as necessary for your other accounts.

Makes sense to me - why keep it easy when you can complicate it????

I can see a whole bunch of "HELP ME!!!" posts coming our way.

LOL HELP ME Donavan!!!

(Sorry I couldn't resist because trying to read that was like being wide awake during open heart surgery. I'm sure when I get home and open up my directories it'll all make sense. Too bad someone can't build a macro that we could click and have it done automatically.)

Makes sense to me too. Guess it fixes the problem I've been experiencing, settings and tips keep resetting upon each login on my 2nd account.
I have to keep clicking disable tips, etc...

Too bad the updater still says "Only once instance of EA-Land can be run at time".

21. Egads! I hope we have someone who can translate this for us non techies. Why oh why don't they automate this for us? I had enough trouble getting my grayed out avatars to show up.

22. I don't think they'd do away with multiple accounts. I would venture to say, as it already has been on this thread, a substancial amount is made by them for the extra accounts.
Logically, you would think they would devise a way to maybe TRACK the accounts and possibly limit the number of sims (whatever they are now) on the same lot, mostly so the account holder cannot financially gain from this in game.
If they allow us to use our sims on the one account AT THE SAME TIME... I see a whole lot of group money objects being used. Is this the beginning of some kind of limiting/tracking mechanism? *shrug*

When you open up your second account you need to use the client file not the patch or you will get that message.

That is what I was thinking as I was reading this post. LoL I would think that instead of freaking out players who cant live with out their SIMS ( am I gonna get deleted for refusing to call em avatars ) we should be excited about the improvements and appreciate the efforts they are making to keep us playing.

Why would someone bite off their nose to spite their face!!!!

I am glad I came back to this game and have a feeling I will be playing for a long time as long as I am allowed to have two accts I dont use it to hold my lot open I use it to minimize the boredom taking care of more than one sim Any one else feel that is their biggest reason for double triple simming etc........

Peace guys

You are definetly NOT the only person who thinks this way...it will be difficult and infuriating and sad...but I will also cancel ALL of my accounts. *Starts to think about what I can do with all that extra money [IMG] *

Wow! One random text file buried in amongst the game's system files, and we've got people jumping to all sorts of wild conclusions! And people say we don't get enough exercise... [IMG]

Here's a what-if for all of you: What if that was really nothing more than in-house notes for how to go about implementing multi-account play -- that, when this is actually implemented and enabled, will probably be handled in an automated manner?

Oh for the love of all that’s worth biotching about, why would you go and insert logic into the thread????? You prob have no idea at all how much time, energy and imagination went into all the responses that have been posted. *shakes head* [IMG]
