Getting people involved in PvP again is something I feel strongly about. So I am continuesly trying to think of ways to make it more accessible. My first idea is probably been discussed before but I am just going to suggest it again to get some idea about it. Keep in mind the suggestions I have might be impossible which is why I am just opening a discussion with my fellow players!

    1. Battlegrounds: I think this game could use some objective based PvP that will pool all the shards together to have some good battles. Issue's I can think of are 'cross realm trading' and how to choose teams. However for teams my thought is it could be linked to factions.

    2. Open up Faction PvP on all facets, fighting in trammel I believe is pretty good for faction growth because maybe you will inspire someone to join the fight.

    3. So basically my thought is that Lady Minax should return. Does her evil thing and links all the shard factions together pretty much forcing everyone to take action against her and her faction.
    • She would move her faction base to a phased realm, and the other factions would follow and set up their own bases in this new land.
    • Minax could be kind of the default location for town sigil's, guarded by Minax's minions and the Followers of Minax faction. The other factions would have to assault the Minax base and reclaim the faction sigils from them (minax can corrupt the sigils still)
    • I'd like to see sigil's take 12-24 hours to corrupt to allow for longevitity in battles, it should not be easy to win, and the reward for capturing the towns should be noteable. Since all shards would be affected by the outcome of one battle owning the towns should be so important that everyone joins the siege. I have no idea's how to make town ownership mean something but idea's would be fantastic.
    • Shard's would maintain their current ability to have a faction leader and town appointed positions.
    • If faction's became linked I would like to see cross server faction chat implemented to co-ordinate.
    4. Progressive statloss: So dieing and being in stat loss for 20 minutes kind of sucks, but it's deserved at the same time. My thoughts are you still maintain your 20 minute statloss but every 5 minutes you regain some of your strength. Off the top of my head I cannot remember the current % of skill loss but I will just pick the number 40. So at 20 minutes statloss = 40%, 15 mins = 30%, 10 mins = 20% and 5 mins = 10% then when its over your at full strength (this numbers probably need to be adjusted, just showing an example)

I am not opposed to the Booster Pack concept for a PvP overhaul, if it has enough content that is. Anyways these are just some thoughts I've had and want to open it up as a starting point for discussion, hopefully we can take some of these idea's improve on them and maybe the dev's take note and can take action.

while these ideas are good, they are brought up every few days and receive no attention from developers every time. on top of that, most people who read uhall, are not dedicated pvpers and tend to not care much about what happens to the pvp side of UO, unfortunately.

Good ideas. A lot of people want a return to Order/Chaos. While I'd like that too and realize it's more realistic I would like even more for factions to be expanded upon with ideas like yours. I have some of my own ideas as well that I'll try to post when I can find time to type them out.

If the players never voice their opinions then nothing will ever improve, I am fine with nothing happening but at the same time I don't want to sit back and not suggest things that might entice people to play more.

I believe it's the players job to think of idea's to improve the game, if we sit back and do not offer imput regardless of how often it's spoken of we are essnetially just letting UO die without a fight. We outnumber the development team drastically we have the ability to put forth idea's they may not have thought about, so until they shut the game down I will voice my idea's and if none of them stick atleast I tried but the chance even the slightest improvement is made because of some discussion on the boards then it's a win.

    Good luck.

Alot of people just don't like PvP and in UO's case there's 15 years of cheaters, ganks and crap talk working against you.

Never ceases to amaze me how many people complain about the lack of people PvPing, then they log in, load up their cheat programs, mass gank some guy just starting out, tell him he sucks and needs to stay in Tram and then go sit around Yew gate wondering why no one wants to play with them.

I'm not neccesarily knocking your ideas, but adding more penalties for dying to some cheating a-hole and things such as giving the best artis in the game to experienced PvPer's just further widens the gap that people who might want to try PvP have to jump and that makes absolutely no sense and will never increase the amount of PvPers.

I think maybe the title on this is wrong. It should have been something like, you're nothing but a disarm, poison spammer or I beat you 3 vs. 1 but all joking aside. I think Factions could be a leading system in the game but it fails to interest me in any way because there are no other goals than to kill someone or to steal a Sig and I think they should really work hard to get alot of ideas on this so that they can turn it into something more of a strategic game on different levels.

I am ready to participate in Factions if they can make it interesting enough to make it worth doing. For me, I would need, a side system. Like, my son was crafting weapons and making armour so he could have the TB Tag. So, there's alot that can be done that could draw people whose interests are more than PvP. If you look at cities and strongholds you can get the idea of how a strategical map could be planned out and you can focus on details, such as shops, towns people, barrics, Seighe Weapon shops and you can create incredible depth and detail because everything is already there. It just takes imagination to create systems that are fun.

I don't think the time on war should be to long. Look at a battle as a life time. Like, say somebody is born and they live to be 100 but there body dies at 50. It doesn't make sense to not have the body there for the entire life. So, battles are the same way. You don't want to start a battle and then have to leave half way through. So, to have a battle last 12 hours, in my opinion, would be to long because you're not going to be able to experience the whole thing. It will be short lived. If a person is not going to start and finish it in the first place it could go on and on. If your going to have it fast paced then you are going to need to take off time and remove stat. Also cross shards is going to be tuff to plan and manege. I think it could work using systems like scoring in the faction arena or having to make suits like bods to help make faction gear. I am not sure if it will work but it could be used the only thing is you might have less fighting on other shards so they would be able to do more.

If you work on things like making flags and dressing up chars I think you would help get ppl in. Like adding to the land where things are real sharp and work well. Then add in some type of story and a good command that can set goals. The need for skills like smith tailor lumber jack mining and even taming. Perhaps force other skills like mage 120 archery 120 to control and work different things. PVP should be the mian battle but you should be able to have other things build up advantages.

Sometimes it's hard to muster up much enthusiasm for these types of discussions when the threads are started by and then taken over by posters who just seem to have appeared on the forums from out of thin air.

Forget factions. Factions are broke and can't be fixed. They messed up with the faction arties and only continue to make it worse. They need to focus on the guild war function and non faction cities. I WOULD love for guild A to be able to "claim" Occlo as their town. Since Occlo is their town they can set tax rates, get a guild hall or house, and other benifits. If guild B wants to claim Occlo as their town they have a 3 day guild war. The guild with the most kills gets to hold the town for at least 4 days. No faction arties need to be invloved, put in a 5-7 minute stat loss so there is a penatly for dying but doesn't take away from a significant about of UO time, and maybe a few other details, but keep it simple and fun.

I have a question for people who have mentioned bringing back Order/Chaos and/or mentioned updates to guild wars as a replacement for factions. As you know if you've been playing regularly the last year or so, we lost access to character, guild, top 10 guilds/shard, top 10 guilds/overall, top 10 warring guilds/shard, top 10 warring guilds/overall information via the uo.com website over a year ago, in June 2011. Then we lost access to the pages detailing the top faction guilds and characters per shard and faction and overall in about October 2011. Since then, we've heard occasional vague promises to look into bringing that information back, but so far nothing has happened and no definite promises have been made.

So, given that we still can't even look at basic character and guild information, let alone rankings of guilds and factions per shard or across the game, how much sustained and long-term interest do you think there would be in Order/Chaos or an updated version of guild wars if there likely will not be any way to go to a website and access information about your own guild or your enemies, or to see how you stand relative to each other?

Do you think people would settle for being able to see something in-game like the Void Pool leaderboard or the arena menus to keep track of kills/ranking, with the possible limitation that it would not include information for characters (or guilds) after a set period (e.g., 30 days) of nonparticipation (whatever that might mean in Order/Chaos or guild wars), and still without a way to look up specific character and overall guild information like we had with the MyUO section of the website?

I enjoyed Order/Chaos but I just don't see it working. Even if a guild wins a war for a town and then only one other guild can challenge them for it during a 7 day span it seems like a pretty exclusive system and easily abused to maintain ownership. Faction's can still be fixed just because we have faction artifacts now does not mean they will still be around forever.

The shards are so underpopulated I feel it's in the best interest to 'merge' a system like factions into something that connects all the realms, while making it meaningful enough that people want to do it. If shard closure is not an option, I think it would be logical to find a way to link a pvp system so everyone can have fun whereever they want to play.

Well, what's stopping people from copying characters to Test Center and playing there? It has arenas and the shard hasn't been wiped in about a year so who knows when it'll ever be wiped again.

I currently only play test no pvp on main shard.. Plus it's more fun to imbue suits and try different combo..like the other day I made a mage healer with all Stam and dex..
    110 Mage
    120 resist
    120 eval
    90 heal
    100 anat
    80 nox
    100 scribe or gm parry
    100 lrc / 40 lmc 15 mr / 20 hpi / 65 dci / 10hci / 30sdi
    65/80/65/70/63
    90 str modded to 110
110 dex modded at 165 Stam
    55 int modded at 135

No med kills template..but u can always drop nox and it was super fun to get 4 sec heals with potions and Mage spells..lol

As for stat loss i think you should be able to sacrafice some of your points to lower the time..
Maybe somethig lik 1-5 points per min in stat... Or any other amount that would seem fair.

ohh yea all i do in uo is pvp and i never sh¡t talk. Sooo its not everyone.

With as low as the population is now there doesn't NEED to be a guild page to look up info. As we were PvPing last night I don't know how many times I heard "drop X person he is an easy drop", or "get rid of the dexer XYZ". Although a guild page and ranking system would be nice, it isn't necessary.

You know it's funny. It's easilly been a a couple years now since I've played UO. And I still get a wonderful kick how those interested in PVP are 'beating a dead horse' but the reasoning to automatically dismiss any positive ideas for change to maybe bring some players back, is always the same. It's always "the new poor player getting ganked by the horde of players at the yew gate". Now first, If you're not to pvp, you should expect to die until you get better. It's how we all got better when we played. Playing against players that were better then us, and learning to adapt, react, and eventually prevail. But if you read the ideas being put forth, it adds ways for players to get involved without encountering those 'ganked' moments where there is no chance. Bringing factions, or some type of system of pvp to trammel allows players to pvp safely with only a select amount of people. They cant get ganked by a bunch of murderers, only by the opposing faction. Battlegrounds or some type of organized system of player vs player, would also allow players who maybe are interested in PVP but are learning, to do so. It works pretty well in games such as World of Warcraft. As far as cheating, I havent played in a while like i had mentioned, but I'm assuming the problem is still the speed hacking, which is annoying, but it's not some crucial exploit that makes it impossible to play or anything. This game is going to die without some changes in a positive direction. It's already lost so many players, some who would love to return if they just gave us something to actually come back for.

I think its just pretty messed up that because you may not personally like pvp, that it automatically gets people yelling IBTL or dead horse comments. Without a fair compromise of both pve and pvp ideas, this game will not survive the next wave of MMORPGS. As some of you mentioned, you can see how much EA cares about furthering this games success. Try to find on Ultima Online on the list for games. It's VERY bottomed, and not because of the alphabetical placement. They dont care anymore. As soon as the profit hits a certain low, everyone is going to be out a decade of time, characters, and game. All because half of this games population has been forced into quitting due to lack of compromise to keep it fun for everyone.

I'll try to remember your name when when I post a bunch of "told you so's". Could you show me anything posted by a devoloper that gave you any real promising thoughts that Ultima Online is going anywhere? Good luck, UO loses more players every month due to the lack of content, attention, and its ability to ignore more then half of the players that helped keep it alive for its first 8 years. If UO was a publically traded stock, I sure wouldnt throw my eggs in that basket.

What are u 12 years old or would finally being able to say you were right about a 15+ year old game calling it a day make you feel superior?

Why would a Dev post something saying that UO was going nowhere?

You make no sense. I did mistype your second quote, find somewhere that shows any promise to a realistic future for UO. If i wanted that to happen I wouldn't waste my time posting about this game. Nor would I try to throw input and constructive ideas towards those who could make a positive impact on the future of this mmorpg. So, to answer your questions: No, I'm not twelve. And whatever you were trying to say, doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me. I'm not sure how I'm trying to feel superior about trying to encourage changes in a game that has been blatantly one sided for some time now. Such a difficult concept to understand apparently

A lot of things could be done to make PvP more appealing and so try to increase significantly the number of players wanting to participate but I am sceptical that anything might really work unless the core of the problem, at least from my point of view, is first addressed and solved.

Most people like to win, not to loose, right ?

Now, in a now item based game where items and their modifiers make the difference between winning or losing a fight, having top notch equipment and weaponry can really make a difference between losing or winning a fight.

So, as I see it, in order to have more players be willing to participate in PvP the top end equipment should be not exclusive or expensive at all but on the contrary, readily available in a reasonable manner to all players...... Once players will feel that they are properly outfitted to compete in PvP, they will try out PvP first in Arenas and then out in Felucca but the very very first step, I think, is making sure that the top end items are not just used by 1% of players but at reasonable reach of the 100% of players......

Also, with the much increased number of items and modifiers, it has become a serious issue to manage all of them and this complexity might deter some players to even get to try dealing with it. Since in order to excel at PvP one has to master first dealing with all of the items and their proper combinations of modifiers, this complexity might make a lot of people just stay out of it and thus, of PvP althougether.
At the very least, unless UO is changed to rely more on skills rather than on items as it once was, thus making its management easier and less of a headache, the clients should be given an add on utility capable of managing all items in the game, managing their modifiers and their combinations and handling them to help players build their suits/weapons of preference before going out looking for them or equipping them without much knowing their end result and outcome in fights.
I am incline to think that making the management of PvP (and therefore of the items connected to it) easier, will be a good incentive to get more people try PvP out.

On the contrary, having it complex and a headache as it is now, it might deter players from even wanting to have anything to do with it.

Easier is better, IMHO, since this is an entertainment product....

Once this is done, then all sorts of other additions to PvP can come but making sure that all players can compete in PvP with the same high end gear I think it should be the priority n. 1.

Yes I agree with this we have this in our guild now. I have been working on this for years each council member leads a set of skills and has a list of armor. Now with imbu I will redo this soon and up date the books. I also think having a set of macros might help players and have them set up into two basic sets like mage and fighter.

I think this could be done by adding in gear that is for factions such as a one part suit so in your pack it would be just one piece and say faction mage gear or faction Knight gear. Then you have weps shields and rings and bracers. Same with the arena but it would say arena mage gear. This would be the simple way you could let each piece like helm and chest be on its own and add in a few like rank a helm that has a high feather or something to show the rank is higher. This could be done with one suit though also. You could allow for both the suits and normal gear to be used but it is something you could not allow as well. So everyone would be more set up to skills. This is something I would of hoped to have seen with arenas but seem to have been under done as factions seems to have been left go.

Also looks are something to think about as the setting for the stage of good vs evil. A range of things could happen in the main setup of what factions fight for and how they effect the world. Something like with less Good you end up with bad things happening to cities and storms with strange effects to towns ppl such as sickness and hunger. Spawn types that are used of a pure type or an evil type.. A story that tells why and what happened to begin the war and why we are still fighting. Away to use smiths and much more. I agree with making it more of one system and pulling everything into one place I think that starts with gear and picking the sides.

Sorry guys. I am with Woodsman on this one. How about we start out with better graphics? Everything else can be moved from the freezer to the back burner. Once the graphics patch is rolled out they can add more pixelated flowers to Yew. Come on, let's revise the face of Ultima Online together. Graphics, graphics, graphics! My Ultima Online needs better graphics. You can leave the rest of my Ultima Online alone, thanks.
