first off, whats the deal with these??
you die, you come back to your corpse and all your bandages or reagents are missing.. you need those?? come on.. some people dont use 100% LRC.

second off.. the monster that looted you doesnt even stick around long enough to get your stuff back... on top of that, if someone else kills it, they get your stuff.. figured at least by now they would make it so your stuff would only be lootable on their corpse by you?

i understand why they take gold.. maybe just make it so thats all they take?

or just turn them off all together.. or make it so they hangout awhile to see if your going to return to reclaim your items?? maybe give them the enemy flag if they looted you so they turn orange??

it sucks to die in a champ spawn where everything loots you and you have to walk out (cause you cant recall) just go to get bandages or reagents..
and you cant even kill what looted you cause it has a 2 minute despawn or someone else killed it and the corpse is long gone..

I usually don't respond to this sort of post...but...so what...some of the game play needs to be challenging...

I've been killed plenty and had stuff taken from me by a demon or some other monster,, and had to go back and try to recover it...although irritating sometimes, it's a part of the game risk...part of hunting certain creatures or doing certain champs.

    just my 2 cents

As far as i remember, "looting" monsters have always been part of the game.

It is very very very annoying when they loot bandages if you are a tamer and they managed to kill your pet too but it is not totally senseless, they show at least one grain of greediness. I always try to leave a stack of bandages somewhere on the ground when i know that a place might be risky and if i play with a non lrc-suite (you're not alone) i always wear insured arcane clothing.

Talisman of Bandaid Summoning can be insured and will provide enough to get you up and going.

As to someone else killing it and getting your stuff, I have never experienced that (unless you are in party with them). Typically, the monster dies and the item taken from you is in an instanced corpse waiting for you to return and loot - as long as you get there before the corpse goes public.

As to champ spawns, yes... those rules can be a pain, but to me, that's part of the challenge.

Use multiple stacks of each thing.

Like 3-4 smaller ones of each. Will take up backpack slots but better than being without stuff when you get your corpse...

Right because after you die it should be easy to just get back up and back into the fight, you know, after being dead.

Let's just take death and HP out of the game completely. Then we don't have to worry about stuff like that.

I'm pretty sure they still take the heaviest items first. So a little strategy will keep them from taking your bandages and reagents.

  9. My goodness. We need more consequence to death. We need looted corpses. Smart monsters. Monsters you can't run through....

Why? The game would have a better play to it. Less 5000000000 hit point monsters and more whoa Im in trouble let me move fight and dodge.

The Devs know not what they do by candying the game down.

true, that's because all looted items weigh '0' to a mob - and making even Less sense (tested this) is they will loot 10 gold, but will pick up Nothing off the ground, ever??
I've gotten other people's stuff, several times, it's only reserved for them for awhile, not guaranteed indefinitely .
but, say take the ophids near terathan keep, they regularly just respawn for some reason, meaning if they looted you, it's gone, premanently, with Zero chance to get it back

    So?

Unless you're on Siege where you can't use insurance it really shouldn't be a problem. Looting monsters have always been in this game, or at least they've been here for almost the entire time. Reagents, band-aids, easy to re-stock those. If it's really that much of a burden then make multiple stacks of the items you don't want to loose. I've never really had a problem finding the monster who looted me though...

On another note, I bet you wouldn't be sweating the loss of little items such as reagents if there was no insurance, lol.

Highlighted NPCs that looted your corpse? I must agree. It's just.. Practical.. Without really breaking anything. For the fun of it, it would be nice to see this for PCs as well. To take it a step further, it could be so that if you die and someone loots you they remain attackable specifically by you, for a longer period even after they've gone Blue for everyone else.

    Could be cool. :D

This is the best way to get around getting looted. Though some mobs do tend to loot a corpse dry.

No, generally monsters have a certain "priority" of loot that they'd take first. Spellcasting monsters, especially Liches, will go for a bag of regs, then gold, and sometimes, very rarely, bandies. Ogre Lords though love to take gold, then bandies, and rarely regs. Generally it ties in with what type of creature they are, if they're heavy spellcasters, or heavy melee.

Someone give the OP back their wabba. They need to put in more of the stealing for critters. The thieving NPCs during the last invasion was golden.

Get a pack of lich around you and they will loot ya dry.

They take your bag of regs because it weighs alot, and if you have been hunting a while, your stack of gold weighs alot too.

looting mobs have always been around. There is some sort of decision process that targets items in your corpse, so maybe if you can dope it out, carry something more costly than bandages but that you do not care about. <shrug>

forgot - mobs can Also hold an unlimited # of items (well, way more than us) in addition to the zero-gravity effect and zero-stamina loss.

Who are the worst looters, in your experience? ophid and Lich comes to mind for me.

    UHHHHHHHHHH Ok this right here:

"Right because after you die it should be easy to just get back up and back into the fight, you know, after being dead."

Considering there is NO 100% Bandage mod on armor but there is for Reagents (not sure why myself, since they ruined the use of regs why not do so to bandaids, another gold sink they ruind :-/). This is exactly how mages have it. Now i'm not saying that I agree with this guy or disagree... But lets not even go there O.K :)?

This is what I do with both regs & bandies; very helpful. I like the idea of having the creature that loots you highlighted. Having had to sift through many a lich to retrieve items lost has proved to be quite challenging at times... although, there is certain satisfaction when extracting revenge!

put a few stacks of gold in your pack and they usually take those first.

we should be asking for MORE monster looting and hazards not LESS

devs - take whatever the op asks for and make it the opposite.
    more looting
    more mayhem
    more outragous monster behaivor
    more theivery
    more slyness
    more cunning
maybe some dancing on tables too?

Back before insurance I had to get three different suits of armour within an hour because I just never learn sometimes. Think I ended up just getting some scrap leather out of the bottom of a chest cause my friend was sicking of supplying my newbiness.

You are expected to be smarter than the monster. Hopefully your experience in combat would teach you some tricks... but if you "respawn" and don't learn then you will always have these issues.

As many have recommended... multiple stacks can help.

Also, didn't see this recommended... just a touch of chiv. Just enough to be able to cast heal on yourself after rezzing. That will get you back into the game long enough to kill the baddie or loot what you need from your corpse.

If it's a serious baddie... then remember everything isn't meant to be solo'ed. Get some guildmates or other folks to help you. Many a time I've recalled to town, yelling "I need help to get my body back." and had several banksitters spring into action to assist. Even when the critter was something easy for them to kill, they were happy to help me kill it.

    I can confirm this.

If you are in the thieves guild and are running 'round in say the Dojo and happen to steal an arti and then happen to die then you could happen to be looted by someone watching you die then run up to the top level for the rez......

    just saying :)

Monsters loot based on the NPC value of the items. If you are carrying gold, it is almost always the first to go. Then stacks of items because they take into consideration value x amount. They also add up the value of containers.

I for one dont understand what your pancakes about but here goes...

    1. Looting was way worse in early years.. nearly everything looted you. Mongbats .. you name it they looted... try chasing a lich that has looted you by surprise in your house and it running around with your best stuff in a bag... Ah the old days .....

(though I will agree the monters that do loot do tend to run off or poof too quickly... might be nice to have that monster stick to the area for a few more miutes for recovery oppertunity and have a color change that way you can id it to help recovery.. PS on this one Past DEv did adress this issue and made it so that you could only loot your stuff before a corps went public to loot.)

    2. You should always insure your stuff and reup the insurance via the menu. That includes your tali, shoes , and if your not carrying newbie dagger and scissors these too. LRC suits and other Stat armor cost a few gold but still a fully 70 suit thats imbued is not cheap if its any good. Rule 1 insure EVERYTHING!

    3. Set a dressing macro! this way once you get rezed your ready to kick its tail and send it back to the nether world and recoup your lost stuff... I cant tell you how many times I have watched the kids sit there for a good 3 minutes getting dressed while the bloody monster is getting away with their junk~

Now as for the group yelling for more looting monsters... I say this nicely = shut up... we got a number of them lessened for reasons most of you have forgotten or have no experience with the looting from the past. Many non looting creatures in uo once were looters and took damn near everything you had. Liches were the worset as they would even steal your garbage. The only good thing was back then, when you killed them you looted a bag of their contents. Now you have to nit pick the stuff out of a fast decaying body as many of you agree decays way too fast. Packies and our bodys decay way too fast but not as fast as they use to.. but still more time should be added to these timers as well.

I can understand you want to Improve the game and go back to old ways but some ways of the past are better left in the past... I dont feel I want at this stage in the game have to chase every tom, ****, or harry monster to get my stuff from my hunts..

Its bad enough the Dev make monster packs so bad that one cant solo... I dont need to worry I will need to hunt and peck over a bunch of super powers to get my bag of sending and stuff back.

monsters always take the heaviest item. keep your aids regs and pots in small light weight piles and pick up a pile of gold that weighs more than these stacks. problem solved.

Reminds of my first character death 10 years ago. The bandits took my precious bearskin hat and gloated about it. They stood over my body commenting on their loot with remarks such as

"Oh look, just what I always wanted..."

I really hated bandits after that.

    As for monsters that loot:
    If I can't insure it, I don't wear it.
I wear only low reg suits.
And finally with a slow con and indifferent equipment, I discovered the better part of valor. I would love to be able to solo a Champ Spawn, but lack the skills, guildmates, computer skills, and time to participate in the UO arms race, be it grinding for imbuing ingredients, going to the right dungeons or killing the same thing over and over for that must have item.

BTW has anyone seen those easter eggs that the dragons got off of my body(s) this past easter?

Insured arcane boots can help in this situation. They let you cast without reagents and they are easy to charge with an arcane gem. And a dungeon creature is less likely to loot your stinky boots!

Looting monsters are part of the challenge of the game. Besides, technically aren't you a looting monster from the dungeon creatures perspective? Should your ability to loot them be turned off as well? Its a game enjoy it. :)

    Actually, it's not false.

I'm no expert, but in the trial stage of my play-time here at the beginning of the year, I killed an ettin in New Haven that was carrying over 10,000 gp...needless to say I was shocked (quite an increase from the 200 or so normally carried). So I kept everything I'd looted from that ettin in a separate bag in my bank box, as I knew there was something 'hooey' about an ettin with 10,000 gp.

The next night I met someone in that same area of New Haven and, after talking a bit, he told me he'd died the night before and was unable to retrieve his things (kept dying), so I returned the bag to him.

So, you ARE able to get someone's looted items from the monster that looted them, or at least WERE able to at that point in time--I'm not sure if this is something that's been changed in one of the recent patches or not (hence, the 'I'm no expert' bit), and you're not required to be in a party with them to do so. Maybe to loot THEIR corpse for them to save items, but not to gain the looted items from the monster if you kill it.

Oh, and as an aside, I was a bit saddened to have met the chap and returned his things, as 10,000 gp seemed a veritable fortune to me at the time...it just didn't seem right to keep it all. What a Trammy I am... :blushing: lol

Not false. It's is entirely possible for someone to kill the monster that looted a player and get the looted items. Not a common occurrence as usually players are able to hunt down the monsters that looted them. More common for this to happen in champ spawns, lots of monsters and players dieing.

    ...

You can get other people's looted items once the corpse goes public. As long as the victim at least has looting rights to the looting creature, the looted stuff will always be in an instance for the owner (once the 2 minute instance timer is up, it's open to anyone).

  43. Capt.E

    Capt.E Guest

Even if you don't have looting rights on the monster that looted you, you will still be able to open the corpse and see your stuff for 2 minutes after it dies. Then the corpse goes public, and all your stuff is available to anyone until the corpse goes poof.

    1. Currently, if the monster has a stack of those things naturally in his loot, they'll combine (i.e. gold). As a result, if the person killed does not have looting rights, the person who did kill it can get all the gold (and if he does, each person gets an equal share of the combined gold). Fair enough. Not sure if it works that way for normal bandages for those few monsters that carry normal bandages, or for reagent stacks.

    2. The fact that the corpses do not last long enough to combine at Champ spawns is an annoyance, that really should be addressed. After all, if they were willing to change the "ranked" monsters in the city invasions of 2005 and later to be non-looting even if the base monster type usually dry-loots you (which was one of the big complaints), why not the champ spawns?

In Fel, why not leave it on the player corpses for the PKs to loot (even if a monster was the killer) - that's what they're partially there for, isn't it?
In Ilshenar, the paragons make champ spawn corpse recovery (let alone finding the individual critter that looted you) near impossible (especially if you are fighting the arachnid spawn at Valor, and one of the NATURALLY SPAWNING, not part of the champ, Greater Dragons pops as a paragon, and proceeds to go for the TPK as everyone gets overrun by the terethans and dread spiders.

If the champ critters continue to loot, Champ spawn creatures either should default to normal decay (not champ decay) if they should loot something other than gold, or drop a bag (like the cu side do with their bandages) with the looted stuff in them for anyone to loot (look - a reason for a blue on blue Ilshenar champ raid!).

    3. In general, the creatures that loot need to be made to where if they despawn from time (normal creatures), or the champ resetting (spawn creatures), they immediately drop what they have looted on the ground, instead of taking it into the void with them. I once had something loot me, take 5 steps, then despawn. Even if I could have self-rezzed at full HP and fully dressed the second after it looted, I couldn't have saved what was stolen.

    4. One of the funniest things concerning monster weight was when Paragons were first on TC. Someone tried to take on a paragon Meer Eternal and got chased back to the sacrifice moongate (and died). As paragon blue creatures tended to attack even low-positive creatures (and might have even been aggro to everything at that time in testing), it camped the moongate, and killed dozens of people that tried to take it on (even if they came in from Spirituality and ran over). By the time that sucker died, it had more than 125 doom arties in it that it had looted from all those TC corpses - it was WAAAYYYYY over weight and item count, and didn't slow down a step (and during testing, the Paragons were a hell of a lot faster than they are now)

i dont mind looting monsters in genral but when they become part of an event or in champ spawns they realy suck!! when their corpse dissapears faster then it takes to get rezed by a friend 2 screens away and you loose your sots its frustrateing

During the vanguard invasion the liches looted you but they also had a habbit of dissapearing since they were a summon of sorts by the vanguard they pissed me off to no end i would be so in favor of turning this BS off or at least make it so can only be looted in fel :p

Though i must admit its nice to kill a para balron to find 30k gold and 1000 enhanced bandages now and then

    Isn't this just game mechanics?

Sure it sucks, and its a pain in the neck, but not every fight can go perfect. I always carry insured clothing and insured scissors, and if you can get right back into the action that way its pretty easy to find the one that killed you.

Even if you don't find your killer...they're just bandages. go find some old clothes, or cotton fields, or sheep. Or its just gold. Or just potions. or whatever.

Like someone else said, be happy its not armor, or a crimmy, or something that takes more than a few gold at an npc or player vendor to replace

You mean like things you looted, like paragon chests, PS, SOTs, rares from peerless bosses (because someone dragged the leftover spawn to the alter after the boss was dead and looted, before I could leave), and the like? I do spawns in both rulesets, and I've lost things of a LOT higher value to creatures that have rapid corpse decay (and therefore no corpse combining) that my dragon or guildies killed before I rezzed, than I EVER lost to a PK at a Fel spawn.

Your counter-argument falls short on so many points, it's almost funny.

And, try carrying an insured Bandage summoning talisman - it works a lot easier than insured clothes and scissors (though, if it is a reversed bandage talisman, you'd need a separate macro for them). IF by some chance it has "protection" or "killer" for a spawn type you do a lot, even better.
