What's the range of returns for logs per tree? I know an LJ gets 10 logs per chop, but how many logs per tree before it's typically depleted? Is that number variable depending on LJ skill?

As far as I know your skill will not determine the number of logs you can harvest from a single tree. I've been able to get enough logs to max out my weight (200+) from a single tree at times, but I've also had trees stop at 50 or so.

Logs, like ore, are based on the number of tree tiles within an 8x8 resource square. Yes 8x8 skill gain was removed, but the resource squares still exist.

It can range from 50 or so to several thousand, based on the resource square and the distribution of squares around it.

Plus you get the felucca bonus and humans get their little 10% bonus too.

Pack horse or three (bonded!!) ... logs to boards, drop onto packie, rinse and repeat.

With the upgrade in slots for non-tamer characters, my LJ really benefits from 3 pack animals in tow. Especially at GM when I'm getting the bark and stuff as well.

also if you make all the packys follow another its easyer to drop the logs or boards in to them make furst one follow you the number 2 follow number 1 and so on works nice in tram not realy needed in fel since they cant move on topp of another in fel

I've found that they trail too far apart to make me comfortable. Gaps large enuff to put another packie in all the time ... but it is easier to drop things in for sure.

my biggest problem with packys in tram is that if your packy get kild by a monster you got no looting rights and lucky that dont go for fel yes you are a criminal if you loot but atlest you get your stuff back

then again new pks do tend to hunt lumberjacks in fel but they all can be payed of to a sertan point bribe them and they moustly axsept wood or gold or so on:thumbup1:

also if you want your rare wood to be safe in fel bring a copple of deeds with you and stick them in them then pk cant take it

Huh? You can loot your pet any time in trammel if it gets killed.

Not always. I've had my tree muggers bonded beetle get killed and been unable to unload the logs before or after having it rezzed.

Are you talking about commodity deeds? Can they be used outside bank box/commodity boxes now?

All resources are on an 8x8 grid. I think it's 8x8.... it's been a while since I did this for a living. Anyway the amount of wood you get is related to how much of that grid is populated with trees. Once again I'm a bit hazy but the range is 40 (4 chops) to 320 (32 chops) logs per "node" (8x8 grid). This is why mining cave floors are so much more productive than mining the mountainside. You are much more likely to find a complete (8x8) area that is populated with a max yield minable resource.

The only exception I have seen to this is in t2a. I have found trees there that you really haul in tons of lumber from. Before the nerf, I had a bloodwood spot marked that I could chop 800 logs. I think I still have that rune. Ok now im curious...

Play with it for a bit. Go to a dense forrest, chop a tree and walk straight 8 steps in any direction and see if you dont find your next chopable tree. When you get a feel for how it works, try to feel out densly populated spots that you can chop 3 or 4 areas at once. Mark those spots and you will be suprised at just how much wood you can chop in a very short period.

Thank you for this. The advice has been very useful to me. :thumbup1:

All I need now is to find some frostwood. I've been back a couple of months, chopping almost every day and found nothing better than 10 logs of bloodwood. No-one sells it on the shard (that I've found) so I'm beginning to believe it doesn't exist! (On the other hand, I seem to be be getting vast amounts of luminescent fungi, parasitic plants etc).

Just be careful, i've heard that frostwood trees have a small chance of spawning a "monkey elemental". These creatures have legendary throwing skills and have been rumoured to have taken heads clean off many an unwary lumberjack with a well aimed banana.
