Lumberjacking is jacked up!

I really don't believe that any tree can spawn any wood at any time. I have been doing a bunch of lumberjacking while I am at work, so yes, "ATTENDED". I have yet to get ONE piece of frostwood in over a couple months. I may have a million regular logs, 3700 bloodwood, 7400 heartwood and NO frostwood.

This annoys me terribly!! The numbers are way off somehow??

I too have not gotten any Frostwood since they changed it to random. That was one of the worst ideas ever ..... :gun:

Developers need to stop changing the game to "stop scripters". All it really does is screw over players. This change and the mining one was an answer to outcrys against scripting. The spots should have never been made random after all these years. The system wasn't broken (yes it was exploited a few times) and should have never been changed. They need to stop the randomness and reset the spots so that people can mark books again. When we craft we want resources that are obtainable without an entire day of resource hunting (used to be gathering but you have to know where it is to actually gather it).

If I remember correctly the main reason the resources were changed is so the rare resources would be rare. Granted, they should not be near impossible to find, but overall I like the changes they put in. Making the locations fixed negates any idea of a resource being rare.

I wasn't here when the change happened. They can spin it however they want. The locations were changed to dampen the ammounts of resources being brought in by scripters. The system worked well for over NINE years. You simply don't change systems that worked well for that long simply because they should suddenly be rare now. Plus, in almost all other games the rarity is based on different zones. In WoW, if you want the best metal you go to the zone that it is in. The same should be true of UO. It was before they made the change. Its not now. The change was a mistake plain and simple.

UO Doesn't have "Zones" like other games, nor should it. The old ore locations were randomized based on the skill level of the miner who first mined that spot, they weren't put in their locations based on how difficult is was to mine there.

My take on the dev team wanting the rare resources to be rare is that it may have something to do with the crafting changes that have been hinted at over the last year. Only time will tell unfortunately.

I agree. I used to enjoy gathering wood and ingots on my lunch hour. Since they changed it I have given it up entirely. I spent MONTHS getting spots marked just so I didn't have to spend MONTHS trying to find one vein. They completely ruined lumberjacking and mining for me.

I agree...... completely..... And forget ever getting stone to make anything anymore..... saddens me to no end.... I haven't the desire to put axe to wood or pick to mountainside since either..... not once have I picked up a shovel, pick or axe.

Although, like galefan2004 says, I´m also sure that they were also made to mess with the scripters...

It'd make too much sense for them to tackle scripting on the scripters level, gotta d**k everyone else in the process.

I've gotten Frostwood - I don't have exact numbers but it strikes me that I'm getting it as often as I'd expect...

I think it should be very rare and I'm not unhappy with the spawn but they must put in broader recycling for wood items so failures can be recycled - furniture as well, to take the curse off it.

A miner has tools, which may improve the metal on each spot by 2 levels - prospectors tool and gargoyles axe.
So on a common iron spot you could get shadow ore (plus elemental) already, while on an agapite spot Valorite is possible, if you can live with the risk of the elemental.

A lumberjack has nothing to improve the level at all.
This, together with the much lower number of Frostwood spots in the world, makes it next to impossible to get the wanted wood at all.

I must admit, I was baffeled why a tree would suddenly give different wood, or a vain of ore, *imagines if it happened in RL*. If it was to make it rarer why not limit the amount you could get from a mined/lumbered spot. This change has stopped me from doing my occasional crafting.

I've logged atleast a million (feel like gabillion) boards since the change, I found yew the most elusive of the 'veins'. Except for if you found a yew tree it gave a ton more special logs than the other trees did. Next after this was bloodwood then frost. I didn't keep any exact figures because I don't really care that much but when i look at the piles at the end of a day this is what i noticed.

As an avid miner/logger I can't really put down the new system (anymore, I've calmed down after being uber pissed when it started). Yeah, it was a ton easier to get what I wanted in the past but tough nuggies. If you want frostwood and would rather be doing something else than mining/jackin... go do it and leave it to ole' Stucky because im knee deep in it. Granted I don't sell any of it but i'm sure there are people like myself who do. (I like to see my mounds and mounds of ore/logs and imagine they're the biggest :coco: )

I'm yet another, in a long line of players, that have yet to see a single board of frostwood! I'm begining to think it doesn't exist anymore.

I have a miner and a lumberjack, but I barely use them anymore. It is easier to buy whatever I need from other players and farm gold or the artifact de jour. The problem is that I suspect most of the well stocked resource vendors aren't usually run by the most honest players. In the day, I'd risk Felucca for a favorite valorite spot. Now, I won't even bother mining. In the war against scripters, it seems the nonscripters are often the first casualty.

Isn't that the truth? They have completely ruined something I used to love to do. :sad2:

I have been getting the higher levels of wood, but it takes a while. Noticed that if you find Frostwood, the tree will keep producing Frostwood for a while (not sure if it is until server up). What I have is 5 runebooks of just random spots, usually in thick groups of trees, and 2 empty runebooks. Then I will go through the books each day, and if I hit a tree giving Yew, Heartwood, Bloodwood, or Frostwood, I move the rune to the empty runebooks. I will usually fill 1 of the empty runebooks with good trees and then just keep going back to those trees until they stop producing. If after 3 rounds and no more special wood from the spot I move the rune back to the other runebooks. Did the same thing with mining. Its a pain to do.

Hail: Instead of looking for the wood, bring the wood to you. It takes 7 min for a tree to respawn. The trees together in T2a Delucia, and areas in Fel. are great spots to cut in.

Mark runes to these areas. Set timer, and chop, and recall around until you have done so for over 7 min. This is now your target area. Only Cut these trees. Just go in a circle every 7+ minutes. I have well over 10k of all rare wood doing this.

This is more or less what I will do as well. It just depends, sometimes I grab an old book of marked trees and just start walking thru the woods, chopping away and storing the boards on my trusty beetle. As I come across colored wood (Yew or better) I will mark a rune, then about every 10 to 15 min I will recall back to the special trees I have marked and re-chop them.

I do not always find all the wood typed, but about once every 3 hours, I will find a Frostwood tree and a several Bloodwood and Heartwood trees in that time. Each tree will last from a few cycles thru it, to several hours.

It doesn't matter what the developers want. It does matter what the player base wants. The vast majority of the player base wanted the spots left alone or they wouldn't have bothered to mark runes to them in the first place. There is no excuse for this change. Thinking that it is affected by the upcoming crafting changes is just a joke. We all know that when EA changes something it is usually not for the better, so lets see these changes before we even consider them important at all. It could be they simply added more items to Heartwood quests and maybe another Peerless.

The elemntal is usually wanted instead of risked. Dropping 25 of an ore color is huge. We used to mine them up all the time to kill them. Other than the shadow they can all be easily dispatched by a tamer.

I would LOVE to see them add in +ljack gloves, lumberjacker's tools, and gargoyle's axes. I would love to see them spawn tree elementals. That sounds like an awesome idea.

On the flip side while miners get that they normally also only get 1 ingot from a spot at a time (per swing) in the higher colors (in Felucca) by the time it is smelted instead of 20 boards.
