mage at event

  1. ok, i'm gonna leave myself wide open to how bad a player I am, but even with blackrock in my pack, and a demon slayer spellbook in hand, I don't get looting rights...I take any of my paladins over there, had have no trouble getting rights at all. I see damage numbers going up, but even with only one other attacker, I got no looting rights on a berserker, what gives?

    Well.
Blackrock is only good for shadowlords. You want to explode only when the shadow lord has 1/4 to 1/3 life. Why? It will take half its hitpoints per explosion.

If your talking only about berserkers. Blackrock doesnt matter. If you start firing a demon bow at 1/2 life with EOO. You should always get looting rights.

If you dont have E00, that might be the problem. But I dont think so. Firing away at 1/2 life on a berserker tills its dead should be ample.

Im going to guess you start fighting with ample life on the beasts so Im not sure what the deal is. Bad luck.

Whats the hit point damage you do on berserkers. With the night reaper and E00 i do 3-6 per hit. That always works.

    Ah spellbook.

    Well
My mage has to keep EV's and Earth eles x2 going the whole time.

The spell book doesnt matter for them.

On top of that I do cold damage spells.

BUT Id recommend a spell channeling mage bow, even if its nots demon, and let it fire away the whole time. While youre shooting, cast lower level spells for damage.

That has always worked for bersekers when I used my mage in Mag.

  4. I'm not asking about the paladin, it's my mage that has never gotten looting rights after ev, and fs with the occasional nature's fury thrown in for good measure. I did after finally locating my home-made demon slayer spellbook, go over there and at that time, saw the damage numbers going up, but still no rights, guess, there is a ratio of damage to the rights given, even with only 2 damagers.

  5. Hmm..

2 Earthies and Earthquake and I've managed to get looting rights on all of the Berserkers my mage has gone up against. The key is Earthies and not EV's.

I have yet to get looting rights on a berserker myself. Are they dropping cursed artifacts? I've heard they drop those scythes. Do they drop in your backpack when you kill them or on the corpse if you get looting rights?

The Zerks seem to be more vunerable to physical attacks, hence the Earth Eles, and Earthquakes do damage. Same for the cold spells. Energy and magic don't do alot against them. You can throw ev's all day and not get past their ' Magical Barrier '.
That is the big reason the Vanquishing, Mystic, Power weapons do the most damage. They penetrate their shields.
Chances are though if there are alot of folks on the one you are fighting, even having Earth Eles on him non-stop you still may not get looting rights. They just can't do enough damage vs the Special weapons used.

I see your mage is casting natures fury. Is your weaving high enough for WoD?

If so do whatever you need to do to get focus of four or better. Throw your summons in there for the early battle and WoD as much as possible for your place in the kill. I will sometimes augment this damage by using a SC mage weap repeater xbow, prefer with a good HLD modifier, and mage jewels that allow me to continue to throw in summons. Or dont forget the summon fey spell especially with high focus, it can save you mana. But the earth eles are great crowd control.

Also demon slayer will help with damage from direct cast spells (FS, fireball{which i like for mana management over time}) but will not increase WOD damage. Scappers, however, will.

    Hope it helps.

You want to use your blackrock only if you are the first or second person to hit the Shadowlord. The first hit with blackrock on a shadowlord is 25K and the second is 12.5K. I always get looting rights if I am the first or second to hit the Shadowlord with blackrock.

As for the berserkers I find that the best is a paladin with a mystic weapon. Though I have yet to get a sythe with this event.

  13. vs zerkers:

best bet is EE's and EQ's as others mentioned. If a buncha ppl are whacking em with mystic weapons, don't even try.

    vs SLords:

besides blackrock, ee's + fireballs and explosions. FS works ok, but not as mana efficient. I like explosions, hits bout 30ish per with 54 SDI (more if corpse skinned). Dont even try ebolts, doesnt work very well

vs fallens: explos/fs, repeat 4-5 times, dead

vs fetids: usually avoid them like everyone else. let the greater draggies kill em

vs wisps: if you hold a piece of blackrock they don't shield. Otherwise fireball till shield gone, explos fs fs dead.

mages do ok, tho zerkers unfortunately we don't have vanq power or mystic spellbooks, so :-/

The berserkers have 0 physical resistance and between 95% snf 100% resistance in everything else (from the half dozen times I've lored them). So anything that doesn't deal physical damage is useless.

  15. yes, he's 115 in that skill, I was using a 100% poison bow (the only bow with sc/mage wep) it showed a bit of damage, but i been using fs, not ee, just about to give up on the mage, the fallen warriors just walk near him and he's dead, such low resists as to not even be worth wearing armor for. mostly for the 100 lrc..kinda a joke I guess.

If that demon slayer was mystic, power or vanq you would get looting rights everytime. You are wasting your time trying to get looting rights with anything less. I used a demon slayer bow on a zerker from full health to death and got nothing because everyone else was doing more damage than me with mystics, earthquake and earth eles. Now i just use my mystic broadsword and armor ignore so i get looting rights all the time. Plenty of bezerker scythes but no arty drops.

Sorry so long in posting additional thoughts.

My temp also has gm and gm only music and peace. This allows for some nifty getaways and lots of *whew* situations that would have been more OOoooOOooOO situations.

Now a word of warning, warriors, tamers, and other mages not in on the tactic are not at all keen on having to redirect the focus of their attacks; so use it, don't abuse it.

I would wade in with the ee summons, keep em hitting by using the bow to get them hitting more (remember the hld effect?) and not so much for the direct damage. Remember us mages like not being directly engaged by the enemy. Its just plinking to stay in the game early on, throw in those EQs and bide the time for WoD.

    Best of luck

Berserker resist with discord is in the negatives while every other resist is in the 80s or higher. Thats the difference between EV's and EQ and Earth Ellys

    Right.

And WoD is randomized damage between one of the five types. So, at a little extra mana cost than EQ hopefully mitigated ardently by lmc gear and a 4, 5 or 6 level Arcane Focus you are still doing more damage to the target than with EQ (20% of 700) OR a one in five chance you'll land home a whopper that will mostly break through the invaders shield.

So, like these guys have said make use of the phys damage mage spells early on.
