Make a Classic F2P UO Shard!!!

Had some time to catch up on some reading from my trip. The SOTD is a far cry from classic. What a "WEAK" attempt to get old subs renewed and try something that sure in the hell isnt "CLASSIC".
Whoever bloody classified that as classic should be in the unemployment line as I type this.

So if the DEVS are really thinking of going to a "TRUE CLASSIC SERVER" make it F2P. Why EA/mythic controlled? At least this way it can be controlled and stay up versus other versions.

    Pre AoS shard

-Young status for 30 days max

    - All CLASSIC skills cap to GM ( Meaning keep it to classic skills only, no new skills UO already has added after AoS)

    - Stat cap 225

    - Fel and Tram side (for housing only) but all fel ruleset.

    - Classic housing only (No customization)

    - Pre Aos monsters and pets only.

    - No xfers to or from the shard.

    - Gm armor with no resist properties.

    - GM weps with no magical properties

    - No vet rewards ( unless bought in item store)

    - Day and night on the shard.

    - Make monsters hard like they used to be.

    - No pet bonding

    - No etheral mounts

    - No faction arties

    - No lower regeant cost

    - Order and Chaos system

    - Monthly rental fees to keep a house. ( A gold sink plus it varies on size of house and how much you pay rent)

    - 10 day timers on housing if accounts go inactive. ( Eliminate the 90 day wait period completely)

    - Housing key to keep out intruders or thieves.

    - No insurance.

    - Guard Zone in Trinsic city only.

    - No global chat.

    - Magic resist works like it was originally intended, (The person who broke magic resist this should be in the unemployment line)

    - Bring back the bounty system

    - Make characters have an identity code number so you can trace any suspicious actions. (Site seller selling gold by spamming at banks or writing them in books could be traced when reported.)

    - Cheaters and site sellers automatic ban for attempting to ruin the shard.

Just some ideas thrown out on the internet for all to see and get these ideas out of my mind so I can go vote today.

The store items that could be sold for the "CLassic Shard"

    - Pet bonding deed. Only used for a mount only. $6.99 each.

    - Vet Rewards $10.00 each (no etheral mounts)

    - Silver vanqishing weps non repairable with 200 durabilty $1.50 each

    - House deeds $7.00 to $40.00. ( Prices vary depending on the size of the house)

    - 3.0 Sot for skills $3.00 each.

    - Vindication deed for Pkers $5.00 each. Eliminates 1 murder count.

    - Magic ring and bracelet for non magic templates to travel. 500 uses on both for $4.00 a set.

More could be added but again its throwing out ideas on the net to clear my head of these thoughts so I can go vote lol.Now lets discuss.......

I like most of the ideas, but the form of presentation is not the best.

    I've got an idea...

Charge a subscription fee and let players decide how to invest their time and money and allow them to build the game world as they see fit.

    Wouldn't that be brilliant?

Let's try this on for size ... the proposal is for a F2P shard that pretty much reverts to a pre-AOS environment (thanks be!).

However some things like those you seem to not like are desirable to some. So, they can buy the "upgrades" for cash - which then goes to EA as profits seeing as how there is little room for patches or publishes to keep the shard "current". Right?

Keep in mind that in general this F2P but costs cash to get some stuff is practiced to some level in EQ2free, LOTRO free, etc. It's got a reasonably proven track record in general.

I'm not in favor of young status but I'd not have issues with the other stuff.

Why not young? Because it didn't exist in the 1997-2001 timeframe most of this fits. <shakes head> Don't need it.

I'll tell you what weak is, your assuming everybody abbreviates.
What the hell is F2b or sotd?????? I won't even read the rest of the post.....constant abbreviations show your youth, and thus, can't be taken seriously.

With age comes experience, common sense, and maturity.

The object of a F2P model is to make money without a subscription. They have to have items to sale for a F2P shard so I made some up. Silver vanquishing weps back in the day were used against liches. I had some then but they dont exist anymore. Just bringing back some old UO stuff with a price :p

40 hours to remove a murder count. So for the impatient ones a Vindication Deed would help but also limit how many counts. So If i had 2 counts to burn and want to go blue today then I would pay 10 dollars.

Housing deeds on a FTP shard should cost some money. Plain and simple. Dont give housing which is a big thing for UO away free on a FTP shard. Charge for it.

    F2P = Free to Play

SOTD = Shard of the Dead

Not sure what F2b is though...

    I'm 30 and I know what they mean. :)

I disagree. Housing should not cost money, and it should be neither plain nor simple.

Housing should require hours or weeks of time and dedication to earn enough gold and to reach a certain plateau which would allow a house to be affordable by any player. By putting a price tag on certain items, you are pigeonholing a large audience of players and simply turning it in to a game of who has more money to spend. That is not the way UO should be.

Unless I have a typo which Im not seeing, I didnt type F2b. lol.

Im just throwing out some ideas on how for it to be a F2P model. Housing doesnt have to be a cost but we are dealing with EA. They want to see some $$$$ rolling in somehow. I do see your point copycon. I still feel that housing should have some ingame weekly or monthly gold fee so housing spots are not held up for inactive players. They do have ingame currency fees in DaoC housing.

Oh btw, I just turned 42 and have knowledge of internet lingo and abbreviations. :p

Taxation is a concept that I prefer over anything else personally. :)

As an example: To own a house you must pay taxes, and the taxes raise depending on how large your house is, how much land you are consuming with your plot(s), or how close your house is to a major city or road.

It can be expanded on, but that is the basic concept.

I'm an old dawg of 60+ and even *I* know that
    F2P = free to play
SOTD = Shard of the Dead

Other posts use at least SOTD and I bet YOU understand them.

Thanks for that development strategy lesson, but I was more referring to how outrageously priced those items were. I'll stick to $12.99 and bond all the pets I want.

    Actually F2B exists too.
Guildwars is such a thing. You play for free and buy expansions.
Might be one of the other big f2 possiblilities.

Most likely the industry will go with a hybrid system as lotr showed.

Heh! I have 2 guildwars accounts and know the F2B model real well. He said I posted F2b which I didnt. I was talking the F2P.

    To Jax.......

Since F2P doesnt have a subscription there is reasoning to the prices of items. You may only spend 20 dollars a year but another person may spend 200 dollars a year. Another person may not spend anything at all and just play without any extra items. There would be no updated patches for content. The shard would stay as it is. Be no costs to cover the shard besides any new item added to the item store.

Plus it should cure your major issue with mystic mages since the skill wouldnt be on the shard. Pay $12.99 and QQ more or play a classic F2P with no more QQ's b/c its all skill then not iem based or major gimp templates.
