And he wanted the woodland pieces reforged so they would have 5 HCI on them, then enhanced trying for 10 DI or 5 HCI. I haven't gotten any 10 DI pieces yet, but was able to produce 2 HCI ones so far:

Now, I have made a piece.... haven't gotten around to imbuing it just yet, but when I crafted it, it had 12 poison resist, so I thought wtf, why not try defense as well... and got this:

Since he doesn't want him armor corse proof, I am thinking of saving this piece for me... when it's enhanced and if it gets HCI/DI it will be sweet, with 29 poison resist.

    Anyway, just thought I'd share....

Are you using the enhancing tool or just rolling the dice? I busted out a insane 35 fire resist after enhancing with bloodwood but came to the conclusion that I can't use it.

Using the enhancing tool. I explained to him how it was made, what the chances of success were, and what it all entailed. He decided to purchase the tools.

Right now I am upto 14 charges used, 2 with HCI, 1 Luck, 1 Lower Requirements and rest cannot tell.

I've not been very luck with the range on these. Hoping for either HCI or DI.

Why did you imbue 5 hpi not 8 mi? You can get hpi from slither and/or crimson.

HPI maxes out at +25. He's not going to be using a slither.

Even with a slither and a crimson, that's 5 more HPS to get, which at this point I still could change the rest to MI.

How much room is there left after the HCI is added? I'm thinking that the defense might be the more effecient way to go if the added resist makes up for the left over room that the HCI can't use.

As this thread is very nicely focused... I know there are threads with extremely deep details and a complete overview in huge tables regarding runic re-forging. But it's too much to read and understand for the beginning and aspiring casual crafter. Can you tell us please...

Which re-forging options did you use for the first two armour pieces?
Which runic saw did you use - ash?

I shall share my insight when I get home and can look at some of the stuff I've made.

I'd also like to here some thought as to the chances of enhancing without the tool:ie can you craft the 5 hci, imbue and enhance and does this then take you over weight thus busting everything like 150 luck plus 40 equals constant fail....

After HCI is added? Well, after it is enhanced, the weight of the piece is 536 (looking at the chest piece specifically atm).
HCI 5 looks to be 43, so it would be like:

    HCI 43
    LMC 110
    SI 110
    HPI 110
    Resist 100

    That's like 473.

I used an Oak Runic Saw.

    The options I used are:
    Powerful Re-Forging
    Grand Artifice
Inspired Artifice (Vicious / of Slaughter)

I think it would be the same as before the forged metal artifacts came along, I want to say my fail % was like 90? I don't see why it would be much less.

While you could do 2 names Vicious and Slaughter.... the problem with that is you need to get 95 or 110 fire for a sampire.

Just testing again, I made a piece that was (after reforging)
    HCI 4
    Resist 9/9/5/22/5

I can see where that would be useful, if you knew you were going to imbue some resist.... hmmmm, going to hope on test center and test it out.

I busted out a few last night with the vicious and slaughter but found that for the most part it seemed better to just do the vicious and imbue the rest. There were a few that were close to 500 points before enhance but they all broke anyways.

The question I was asking above was more in relation to total points for the HCI and if you could enhance with a chance of it working. I'll have to track down a thread that showed total points from 150 luck and adding the 40 from spined that indicated that it was impossible for the game mechanics to allow you to enhance without the tool. That should allow us(me) to see what the fail area was and if it is possible to do.

Luck enhancement failure: 30% + 1/2 the current Luck value before enhancing.
(not counting the resist and/or other property changes - each checked separately)

    So, assuming 100 Carpentry skill
    100 luck = 80% chance of failure
    120 luck = 90% chance of failure
    140 luck = 100% chance of failure
    (150 luck = 105% chance of failure)

Smiths and tailors get a bonus equal to (their skill/10) - 10.
Tailors can reach 120, so they hit 100% fail at 142 Luck
Smiths with +60 ASH can reach 180, so the hit 100% fail at 148 luck

However, because there ARE those other checks, the final total chance for success is about 3/4 (leather) to 1/5 (metal, wood) the chance of success for just the luck check alone.

    Calculations are based on
    A. Calculate failure chance for each property changed by enhancement
    B. Subtract failure chance from 100% for each property changed to calculate Success Chance, then convert to decimal from percentiles. (i.e. 35% Failure = 65% Success = .65 Success, as a Decimal)
    C. Multiply all the Success Chances together, and convert back to percentile. Yes, it gets really ugly. Gold, for example is (.79^4)(.78)(luck check)(lower requirements check), which gets below 30% success chance before factoring in Luck & LR.

That is going to be a sweet suit. This thread has almost made me purchase a few tools myself, almost. I cannot wait to see what the finished product looks like.

Basara, it would appear that the weighting of HCI is much lighter than luck and hence the 100% rate of failure should not be an issue. It makes me wonder if the game does a check first before it rolls the dice for which mod heartwood gives....so much to think about.

If I was building this suit for myself, I would PROBABLY be using a slither (I don't own one and have never gotten one), and then only have to imbue HPI on 1 item- maybe.

But yeah, this suit should still be pretty damn nice when I get a chance to finish it.

He doesn't necessarily want the suit corpse proof- right now with those 3 pieces, mace and shield glasses the resist sit at:

    Physical- 69
    Fire- 85
    Cold- 44
    Poison- 72
    Energy- 46

That's including the minimum for the Arms/Hands (7/6/4/6/4)

Tossing in the crimson, the other stats of the moment are:
    str 10 , dex 10, LMC 24, HPI 25, HCI 25, SI 24, DI 10, HLD 30

    I have two questions.

    1. How are you going to get max resists?
You need one item with 11 cold + 7 fire (5/10/13/3/2) and one item with 14 energy + 4 fire (5/7/2/3/16). I have crafted thousands of items and haven't crafted any item with 18 exceptional points in two resists. You need to craft about 10 such items.

    2. What is the finally aim of such imbuing?
Assuming you reforge/imbue MI 8, SI 8, resist 15, LMC 8, HCI 5 on the rest items, you will free up 217 intensity from jewels for the cost of 24 MI. Even less - 173 if you are going to use Shroud of Condemned or Mana Phasing Orb... or just 130 if you are going to use both. How are you going to use this room?

A bit more doable would be 2 pieces that average 5-6 cold, 5-6 fire, and 7 energy, with near-nothing in physical & poison.

of course, since the poster specified the client he's crafting for doesn't necessarily care if it's corpse-proof, you can drop the fire part out, and you get a much more doable 6 each in cold, and 7 each in energy. The fire then can be done with 1 imbue, if needed. OR, more easy would be the two parts having 11 cold & 11 fire total (5 or 6 in each), then imbuing the 14 (or less) energy.

There is a little sence in an item with 5-6 cold, 5-6 fire, and 7 energy because you need to imbue cold or energy to those items.

I meant in extra points OVER the base, since the point being to get the points WITHOUT imbuing the resists. Just like YOU were talking about in the thread I was replying to.

Made another chest piece last night-

    10/21/10/12/9
    compared to
    12/21/8/14/8

While 1 point less overall, the resist are more in line with what is needed in the suit. It also has 10 HCI. I'll probably try for another one, but I went through 2000 bark fragments and this was best piece for this suit (low physical/posion). I would love to get a piece where phy/fire/poi get 5 points or less of the random- and then get it to get DI/HCI....

Yes. A good suit takes few thousands of bark fragments... 10k+ with reforging.
Save all items that have 13 exceptional points in 2 resists (from fire/cold/energy) for later use.
    For example, 7/5/9/5/9, 7/10/9/5/4, etc

yeah, I now have multiple chest with crafted wood/leather/metal where there is like 10+ exceptional on 1 resist or 2 or more resist that are 9 or higher (11 for physical on wood/plate).

    Hey hey Everyone,
If it helps, I have recently obtained a number of oak and ash dovetail runic saws. Combined with about 5k in Heartwood boards and a ton of bark fragment, I have had quite a interesting return. I first began by using a regular saw and crafting wooland armor pieces out of heartwood only. Then went to plain boards and re-forged, had a really nice return there. I'm currently at work and will post pictures in the later this am. I can say that using a oak runic, I was able to craft a piece with 4HCI & 4 DCI....
