I remember hearing awhile back that mana leech is now useless on dexxers. Is this true?
Not completely...if you do good dmg consider it the equivalent of 3-5MR dependant on dmg and swing ratio. Leeching only occurs from the weapon hit itself; it does not include specials and hit spell into the equation.
Don't listen to haters, I can remember back when people laughed at me using a wep with hit lower attack.
In PvP I'm averaging around 5 Mana with each swing. So I'm guessing HML is giving me the equivalent of MR 40 (at 1.25 seconds per swing, 8 swings every 10 seconds). This is with just a Twinkling Scimitar with HML 57% doing 10-20 damage with each swing.
I just made a Mage's Rune Blade with SSI 30% and HML 55%. It should do more damage so I'm hoping to get even more mana back.
The mods I'm looking for on my "perfect" Mage's Rune Blade would be Hit Lightning 45+, Hit Lower Defense 45+, SSI 30%, HML 55+, and Hit Stamina Leech or Faster Casting 2.
This is an excellent post and hopefully I can help revive it. Some guys on my shard, one guild in particular, have lots of HML and HSL on thier weps. Now they are doing spawns supposedly but I don't bother to ask them but i'm sure they are because they come to luna with horde minions and these same weps, etc etc. Now we all know that if you are hitting baracoon or whatever, you would normally go with an area effect wep to work the spawn, super slayer, demon slayer , or whatever. I, like many other pvpers, knew that HML was nerfed hard after AoS came out. If HML is back, there sure wasn't an article saying "welcome back HML" . lol. With me saying all this I just wanted to see if you guys have hard evidence that HMl has come back to pvp or maybe there is a flaw in the system like DCI. And DCI is another story I don't care to get into. Seems that in some areas, the cap is flawed. Ok, post here and I hope people keep it alive.
You should go look at the warrior section of stratics and read up on the Sampire template, I am sure the chars you are seeing are of this make.
Only problem I could see, as previous posters tried to calc what their "MR" would be from leech, is you have to assume a 50% fail rate, I mean, don't you? I guess a 20 MR equiv isn't bad either, but when you run dry on hits, then what ... seems to me that leeches, other than stam leech, which works better than mana and life for pvp purposes, are worthless PvP mods unless you're looking at arty-quality items.
Well that's what I'm saying. I know what a sampire does and it is an excellent "pvm" machine. But for pvp, I'd like to know if hml is back in full effect or what the leech ratio is for pvp.
The leech ratio is the same for PvP and PvM - the difference is how the DI caps affect the amount leeched.
A reminder: Leeches NEVER acted as Mana Drain or Mana Vampire. They just give you back mana based on a percentage of the damage done (well, technically, since the change a few years ago, a random percentage (1-displayed leech amount) of that percentage, which is then multiplied by 40%, each swing).
as such, the theoretical maximum of mana leech in PvP is 40% of the maximum damage one can do in PvP from a normal attack (on a VERY slow weapon), or about 16% on a very fast one. So, you'll never get more than single digits back on most weapons, and often so little back you probably will overlook it in the heat of combat.
Against monsters, on the other hand, It's possible with the whirlwind attack forms to keep at or near max mana at all time, as leeches appear to draw from all targets hit, even if damage raising specials and magic effect damage (like hit fireball) don't come into play/
Just tested Lorax (archer) shooting at Dhampir (Sampire) with a 40% mana leech crossbow and mostly his hits were 30 damage, but they leeched back 2-6 mana every 1.75s. Dhampir hitting Lorax with a Daisho roughly 15-16 damage was leeching back about 2-3 mana per swing with a 49% HML every 1.25s.
To test this I had the character undress and re-dress so he had to recharge mana.
Mana and Health leech have a penalty on Archery weapons.
I put HML on my AI weapons. When you're doing a few in a row that little bit of mana is definitely helpful.
