Last I played, to compete in pvp, you needed to have archery if you were a dexer. Does this still hold true?

I'm tyring to get back into the swing of things. This is just the first of many questions I will most likely have. If you are a pvp guru and willing to help, shoot me an ICQ at 97425762... I'm attempting to get back into the game after a few years break.

I'll let the full-time PvPers answer your question (I'm only a part-timer), but welcome back.

You need to be a good player in PvP to compete in PvP. Knowledge of the game, your own temp, and your opponent's temp make the difference between win and lose. Of course some temps are better than others and some are better AGAINST some than others. In the end, playing your temp WELL counts for more than anything else.

Well, if you are going solo there are two skills you pretty much always want to have.

    Ninjitsu and Resisting Spells.

You can fit the two of these easily onto an archer. Then you have Bandis, Pots, and Chiv if you want, making an all around fairly survivable character. Archery will always have advantages over Melee Dexxers because you don't have to be within 1 tile to HIT your target. On the Other Hand, you will swing much slower with most weapons(Relatively).

Melee Dexxers take some practice. Its hard to gauge where your opponent will move next, and what the best method is for staying within 1 tile of him to Whomp on him.

I suggest the Archer First, build your suit (Imbued), go out into the field and learn how to survive by fighting friends or just jumping in, then start figuring out how to kill. It will all come back to.

So a few years back, melee was really in the hole no matter how good you were, for instance, no one would play a bard in pvp as they just can't compete... the same was for melee pvp.

From the 2 responses I got, I take it melee isn't a no-no like it used to be? I understand the positioning thing to connect can be difficult to learn, but other than being a little more difficult, melee is back in the swing of things? (no pun intended :p)

Are all 3 skills viable? I see LJ got a bonus, are axers back??

Also, this whole suit mess is confusing. I need a starting point, if i go archer, is there a couple arties I should start with to build my suit? and if i go melee?

    What are your recommendations?

There are many skill combinations that can succeed in PvP. Some say archers are overpowered. Some said mystics were overpowered. Why? Because they just didn't know how to counter these players. Some recommend melee dexxers. Why? Because that's the only skill they figured out.

It is all about knowing the skills, figuring out their abilities, learning to use them in PvP and imbuing good gear. Then you can succeed with almost every template. Most players are specialized on one type of template, and to them this is the ultimate PvP templated. Only it isn't.

I would recommend posting in the Melee forum for your suit questions, as for assistance the shard specific forums.

Other wise there are a few different ways you build a suit, also depends on being in a faction or not.

Usually not many people think of their template as ultimate, they just think of the template they can't beat as being the ultimate template, so they use that only to find out they can't play that any better than they did the one prior.

Yes, this was exactly the case with Mystics. People whined so much on these boards about Mystics until they got nerfed. Only, they never made the attempt to figure out a Mystic's weakness. Mystics were not too difficult to kill if you knew how to get them.
