As a melee fighter, if one had to choose on either focus and maximize on Hit Point Regeneration OR Hit Life Leech, which of the 2 would be the best option to stay alive by far ?

Of course having both is always better, but if one had to make a choice to leave mods slots open for other modifiers, also necessary (hit lower attack, hit lower defense, hit mana leech etc..), between HPR and HLL which would be a better pick for a melee fighter ?

By the way, are HPR and HLL capped ? Stratics magic Item Properties (http://uo.stratics.com/php-bin/show_content.php?content=30743) show them as N/A which I do not understand whether it means there is no cap limit or whether it is simply not known what it is.........

    Thanks.

Neither. Unless you're a ninja in dog form, other healing methods are more effective than hit point regeneration (bandages, close wounds, confidence, vamp form etc), and hit life leech is barely enough to regenerate the damage received by troglodytes (at 110 fencing, 100 tactics, using a night's kiss dagger).

    Find different methods of healing.

I kinda thought about it for HPR but your answer about life leech surprises me a whole lot.

I mean, I often see posts arguing about how important if having a high life leech mod on a weapon and now seeing your answer makes me confused as to why a lot of players think HLL as very important on a weapon.........

I am interested to find out the answer to this as well. I put HLL on my sampires weapons, but if I'm wasting a mod slot please let me know. One of them has like HLL 63% - did I waste a mod slot ?

At minimum, your sampy wants hml and hsl. Hit leech life is nice, too, but not your primary concern.

Because it's already covered by Vamp and/or Curse weap?

    You're wasting a mod slot.

    SSI (not in any order)
    ML
    SL
    DI
    HLA

if you dont need one of those, get more DCI and cast Divine fury for +10 SSI, +10 HCI, +10 DI, -20 DI, and full stamina.
If you don't need that, get a hit spell or hit area.

Ok, so the summing up is that for melee warriors it is better to have other mods and forget about HPR and HLL because the life they bring back is simply not worth the mods' slots wasted ?

Much better then to maximize one healing all the way to 120 ?

120 healing isn't really worth it either. Stick with 100 unless you can't do anything better with the 20 points.

    True.

To quantify, a bone demon can hit you for 50 damage. With max HPR (That's 18), it will take you about 30 seconds (more or less) to heal that damage from HPR.

It will take at least that long to leech the life back with hit life leech, and that from attacking the "neighbors" rather than the demon itself.

Or you could slap on a bandage, be glad you have hit lower attack, because now he'll just miss more often, preventing more damage than you'll heal from either of the above methods (in the Bone Demon's case, about 50 damage every 8-10 seconds).

Note: I didn't actually crunch the numbers, but rather, I approximated. I could be wrong... but not by much.

Damn seriously? Well at least the spec I have chosen is gonna allow me to get away with inexpensive weapons! I chose Macing for black staff whirlwind (Which is only about a DPS in difference with Double Axe), but only requires 120 sta+20 SSI or 180 sta to swing at cap. I have a UBWS Leafblade.

I dont seem to lose stamina, but then again im not really doing gnarly stuff YET, I suppose when you start doing tough Boss monsters you need it because they will hit you, slow you down, and your rate of vampire leeching slows, leading to death?

And you recommend HLA over HLD ?

Should the mods on the whirlwind weapon be different from the leafblade, or pretty much exactly the same ?

I'd guess they have HLD on their suit, just like DCI?

    Exactly right. You're on a roll. :thumbup1:

It's not expensive. Find a weapon that already has SSI on it and the rest are cheap to imbue.

I'm assuming they're using mace and shield glasses.

Can be useful to have a WW variant with 50% hit area, but typically the same.

Hmm K, I was gonna do the mace and shield glasses but opted for the Spirit of Totem for the HCI and STR. I guess I'll have to figure out how I'm gonna fit that in and get 45 HCI on my suit now. 15 on rings but I don't have access to wood armor. Non faction toon so I can't wear earrings that allow me to wear elf armor.

I originally thought I could just use Lightning strike to get my HCI but then I discovered LS doesn't stack with weapon specials. IE while I can confidence and Whirlwind/Feint, I cannot LS with WW/Feint.

Where are you guys getting your 45 HCI ?

I personally dont worry too much about HCI on a sampire.

40 is fine. Once you've HLD you never miss and before, rarely.

I actually only have 36 on my suit because i was too lazy to get the greds for Imbuing max. Works fine.

Many sampys focus on 45 dci, then rely on LS for hit chance. However, if you do decide to use Spirit of the Totem, just add HLD on your weapon instead of HLA. I know that it's trendy for sampys to use M&S, but I am friends with one of Atlantic's best sampys, who incorporates the Spirit of the Totem. Though Connor will probably disagree, I think both suits can work.

But I still like you, Connor. :p

What does your friend do with his suit differently when he incorporates Spirit of Totem? I'm not opposed to Mace & Shield, and actually wanted those, I just thought I needed the 45 HCI more. But it makes sense once HLD'd that you wouldn't need 45 HCI as much....

UH OH! Connor got straight up called out........... we can expect him to reply with something completely wise, game-changing, eye-opening....... and totally cryptic, crammed into 1 or 2 sentences, Connor-style. We'll be debating WTF Connor meant for months.

  21. If you use SoT you lose a mod slot on your wep, which means you can't have HLA, which means you get hit more often. I'll stick with the M&S. *shrug*

I may have inadvertently confused Popps a little bit. I tossed a few weapon setups in this board with HLL. For my wammy (not a sampire) I have toyed with using HLL to further augment my curse weapon. The full weapon I tried (and use for some things):

    SSI
    DI
    HSL
    HLL
    HLA or Slayer

BUT... this was just for a tweaked wammy build which only had 40 necro (thus vamp form is not an option). Through practice, I found HLL isn't absolutely needed. Trading HML for HLL from sampire to wammy is not needed; you actually have an extra mod to play with for a wammy. I use HLL for my wammy's weapon training because it saves me from having to constantly cast curse weapon. In Yomatsu mines, for instance, with 44 HLL my wammy can live alone on honor and HLL going one-on-one with a warrior. But there are better choices than HLL for specific uses (i.e. Hit Area for spawning or HLA & Slayer for bigger stuff). For a sampire, you absolutely have to have:

    SSI
    DI
    HSL
    HML

The final mod I use for my sampire is HLA if I know I can get an honor off and can use EOO. For something I can't (like Navrey because it is so camped I never get to honor) I use Spider slayer for the fifth property.

Why not both? I can imagine a sampire template and a suit with 16 HPR and 60 HLL for pretty good survivability. :)

I still maintain that HLL at high intensities can be very useful to keep you alive.

That, I'm not sure. She was wearing faction arties, but left factions recently and redid her suit. All I know is that she wears Spirit of the Totem and I've never seen her die.

SOTT is not a bad item, but kind of redundant on a sampire.

Fact is, in real world use for most situations, it doesn't really matter if you're running around with 125 or 150 STR. Sure, it helps damage output and gives you extra 12 HP, but this will only make a marginal difference. Personally, I like to drink simple npc-bought STR and DEX potions when I'm facing something really tough. It maxes me out to 150 str, 150 hp and 190 stamina - but only when I really need it.

I'd much rather chug every 3 minutes than have a deficiency elsewhere.

lol, she needs to push the envelope harder then. (when you are around) Take on that entire screen of Succubi and Demons an Semidar, hehe. And, I do not mean just walk onto the screen, but re-open your paperdoll and watch the ENTIRE screen come for you. Fun times.

Finally people r starting to realize that a darkwood suit and a soul seeker arent the biggest things u need to be a good fighter in pvm
