I think to insure an item you should have to be at your house/inn. So if you get an item you have to actually bring it home. Also get rid of recall/gate for any dungeon including Trammel. It's too easy the way it is.

Not bad. How about we make it like real life where there is an insurance salesman at every major city (except Luna and Umbra and those stupid samurai ones) and every once in a while the insurance is dropped from some random reason and when you talk to the insurance salesman he gives you the run around for half an hour.

I agree with No recall or gate inside a dungeon

The only people that not being able to insure anything right then and there would hurt would be people in Fel who got something in a Dungeon it would give time for a pk of thief to get that item from them, which I don't mind but unfortunately I think it would not be received well on the Trammel side of things since it would be considered "just another pointless task".

What is your motivation behind this suggestion?

  4. See, you and I actually can agree on some things.

This is not a bad suggestion. I'd like to see it taken further, like a player can only insure 1 or 2 items at a time though...especially in Fel.

Also, when you are killed, all insured items should go to your bank, not your pack.

To further the insurance salesman suggestion someone else made, I think insurance in UO should have actuaries. They should do a calculation of your risk based upon your activities.

So if you fight liches or lich lords a lot, your rates will be higher. (These monsters loot more often.) If you aren't fighting liches a lot when you get the insurance, then start to fight them, your rates will go up over time. Because the monsters in the game most prone to loot are reds, you should be charged the highest rates if you spend a lot of time in Felucca. Like a million gold per piece per death.

If you die a lot, that should also be factored into account when deciding your rates. If you play conservatively before you get the insurance, then suddenly swing into high gear, your rates will increase astronomically, more than if you had been honest about your activities.

Also you can be charged with insurance fraud and gold will magically vanish from your hose or your bank box in the form of fines to the government. (In these times of recession and invasion, the government clearly needs revenue and will begin to be creative about fund-raising techniques. The mostly-unregulated Britannian insurance industry is ripe for the taxing/fining.)

There should also be competing insurance companies, with varying levels of service and varying rates.

High insurance rates will eventually cause some players to exclusively hunt mongbats.

Or, how about we accept that we're in an item-based game, and that to lose an item is tantamount to losing a skill under the pre-AoS system, and finally accept the presence and necessity of insurance after many years in operation?

Bah! more woes to worry about in a GAME.

IF you do not want to insure YOUR crap, you right now, have the OPTION not to.* (same goes gating and recalling)*

Even in fel when enough people start losing their items and having their time wasted you will hear Crying on a legendary scale.

  7. This about sums it up.

  8. Aye it does sum it up..to me insurance is fine the way it is and it it where to change in anyway UO needs to become a less-item based game then what it is today. Hopefully Imbuing will help with that but I have my doubts about Imbuing.

Makes sense from overpowered tamer point of view so I can see why you would like those ideas. Because your pet doesn't need insured items. So you can just hit all kill macro and use smoke bomb and kill people with no armor on.

Sounds good to me. Particularly the recall/gate restrictions for dungeons in tram. However I would expand that to all facets, not just tram. Such as Malas and Tok.

Restricting where you can insure is an interesting idea (I would say friendly houses + guard zones - just inns feels too restrictive).

Recalling in and out of Tram dungeons ... well, the problem I have is that I'm a bit of a packrat for gold and recyclable metal as I go. If I fight my way through the ettins and trolls of Despise, I'll often have a full load and need to turn back before I even reach the ogre lords. I'm not raised on the champion spawn "well, you're going to leave most of it behind anyway" philosophy.

It sounds to me that a better "comprimise" would be to have a mechanic for certain special drops that disallows use of recall or gate while they are being carried.

    Better idea:
The more you insure in a certain amount of time, the more you have to pay.
