Well, after my latest experience in Crawler's Nest, I felt the need to start this thread.

Party makeup is RDM/WHM/NIN/DRG/BLM/THF, all 44-46. We run out of rumble crawlers, someone asks what's safe to pull, and the answer is 'basically everything as long as the scorps don't link'.

Naturally, the next pull is a level 60 beetle.

We go at it anyway while the WHM hits Reraise -- NIN holds aggro and evades surprisingly well, RDM (me) keeps Refresh up and heals where needed, everyone does their job -- and slowly but surely, the beetle dies.

To top it all off, the only two-hour used was the Dragoon's, and apparently by accident.

So, let's hear from everyone else. What crazy 'I can't believe we lived through that' fights have you had?

just joined this site's forum so bear with me.

i was just starting out with my old character (shuriken) and we had a party of 6
(WAR/RDM/WHM/THF/MNK/BLK). we were all level 14-16 in the dunes when we the thief accidentily aggroed a whole gob nest. everyone died except for me (the WAR supprisingly) and i spent the next 15 minutes running a world record sprint to selbina while running past and aggroing several more gobs that i passed. i made it to selbina with 3 HP left.

The most recent that comes to mind.. King Truffles were needed for a synth and they're expensive. They only drop from some shrooms in Crawlers' Nest (yes another nest story lol). There are six of them in a room. Now these are level 45'ish and I'm there as a WHM75/THF15, and I have Whumpers with me (TH2-sized THF, can't remember exactly where). Though I'm a squishy WHM I've done this before. "Don't worry Whump! I've never died here." These killer mushrooms link, and I rarely could pull just one (usually two, sometimes three). This time, I somehow managed to link all SIX of them. I'm panicking because I see RR3 just wearing as they all come toward me. They're taking her down pretty fast and she can't get her shadows back up. I managed to diaga them all and keep them focused on me and we killed them all without her (or me) dying. But it was close!

Those runs are always fun. Actually had something similar happen to someone in a goblin party in Eastern Altepa the other day -- we were heading from Western to the camp (since beetles there took a bit too long to kill), they aggroed a skeleton, and zoned safely -- except for the part where they died on the other side.

I have no clue how THAT happened -- guessing Dia or Poison, but still funny.

You linked six? And lived? Not bad.

I have one, but mine's more "holy crap, that sucks." After not playing for a few months, I started the game up and I had finally hit level 30 with one of the non-advanced jobs. The party that got me there navigated me deep into the Elshimo Jungles (I think near the beginning of the Yhoator Jungle), which I had never traversed before. I was only about 30xp above level 30, so one death equals delevel.

Foolishly, I decided to try running back without yelling for an escort (and I didn't have a linkshell or any friends). I made it all the way back, slowly dodging gobs everywhere. I was on the last cave before Kazham, feeling triumphant when I turned a corner and met face-to-face with a gob. He said, "hi." Knowing he saw me, I decided to just make a run for it. Unfortunately, he called up all his friends on boost mobile ("yo, where you at?") and a party of gobs mauled all the way to Kazham. I fell ten feet in front of the entrance and deleveled.

Thinking I was close enough to regain my level, I went to fight some simple things elsewhere to make up the difference. More unfortunate things happened for the next two hours, and I died two more times. I ended up being well over a 1000xp to get back to level 30. :blushing:

Fortunately, however, somebody took heart in Jeuno, and offered a quick PL back to 30. Then, they offered me membership into their LS and bought me an entire equipment set plus sword for a level 30 warrior. So the story has a happy ending after all.

I think I'll necro this thread to express my awe for what I just saw.

A JP linkshell taking about an hour and a half to take down Kirin -- but succeeding.

I can't decide if I should be impressed that they were able to, or annoyed by how long they took.

LOL, sounds like our first Kirin run. Though I think it was more than 1 1/2 hours LOL.. and yeah that poor shell waiting on us, I felt so terrible.

Well, with Kirin, it depends on how he calls his helpers. We low manned Kirin and killed him in about 45 mins. The next time, we eventually got close to a full alliance, (ppl logging in late and other ppl leaving) but the god pop combos sucked and he summoned quickly causing a wipe. Once everyone got up and weakness gone, we took him down, but by that point I think we had only 2 or 3 BLM left. It was painful. We killed him, but it was painful and ugly. LOL.
