Most of you will find this amusing.

I got my first warning (and visit to the jail) today for Unattended macroing.

Now what was this henus crime? Script mining? Stable taming? gold farming? ect.

Nope it was for hitting a Golem.......

Now yes i know its still classed as macroing but seriously i'm not gonna sit their and stare at a screen for 5 days whilst my char repeatedly hit a golem.
We now have updated computers that mean i can do that in the background while i actually do some proper work. ie, my job.

At the end of the day when i get home i really dont want to turn on my lappy and just stare at it all night.

This isn't the first melee skill i have gained so yes i know how long it would take to train it up by actually fighting mobs. (115-120=laughable)

So my plee is to make melee training a little more bearable with this new expansion so we dont have to sit their bashing a golem all the time.

Really is it so unthinkable that people might ya know, train the way they were meant to in game like say for instance, kill things? Honestly from 115-120 you can easily gain while actually, well, PLAYING the game and while I have never used a golem to train I know I have out trained many of my friends who use golems simply by, well as I said playing the game as intended and not having to stare at my char mindlessly hitting a golem. On the other hand if you don't like hitting things for hours or days (tho this is exaggerated) then there is NOTHING else you can do as a warrior....really, nothing, not one thing they do other than that. Even hitting other people, same concept really and half of the time you are "pvping" you are really just standing around doing NOTHING for hours...seems the same to me.

I have to say I am against your warning / mark against your account but that is only because if you go to luna on any shard at anytime there are at least a half a dozen if not more people doing this so why are they not all being jailed/banned on a constant basis (don't tell me gms can't know by now)

If EA/Mythic took away the golems they would find allot more people out hunting and training skills in the world and not just standing in Luna

Very true, I was simply saying I have a distaste for targeting people when there are obviously masses who do it, I would almost be willing to bet there was a half dozen people around him doing the same thing, I wonder if they got the same warning.

They will go to jhelom pit, They will go spar with second account, They will hog a fast spawn for hours and days at a time not sharing, They will buy advance tokens in order to stay at a fast spawn with plenty of gold they can farm. They will buy sot's they will train with pets, Most likley they will all move on to a unattended script doing all these. Basicaly anything possible as long as they don't have to kill creatures they have killed years ago when they first build up there characters to waste more time than necessary.

The pvp that hate to hunt and need to make a new skill well they will move on to a freeshard where it be easier.
Just some of many possibilities that result from that suggestion.

  6. You know its illegal. You know its unattended skill gain. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

Took me Less than two weeks to go from 100 to 120 fencing, its about which mobs you train on..

I put in 3 hrs a night and sure beats a mark on your account.

I came out a million or two heavier in the bank as well.

I would reply, but I try not to associate with criminals such as child killers, genocidal maniacs, and unattended macroers.

On a more serious note: You might try training on champ spawns, it's less boring and there's a chance of a reward. I've been doing ok on my swordsman in terms of surviving. Even got an oak leaf cloak today.

Question How long did it take from 0-100?

I need to get fencing on a second account so am about to go do my training. Of course gonna use new player quest in haven to get 50 then golem till as far as I can go then many sot to finish it of. Im in a hurry when I start to train as I got alot of other things to do with UO time. I got plenty of gold so making any gold doesnt matter, Thats my prefer method.

Just curious going the hunting rate from 0-120 how long it took you. You already said 2 weeks 3 hours a day from 100-120. Maybe i can compare the time it takes me to the time it took you. It would be a interesting to see the difference.

Well its been since the book of truth episode but it too took less than two weeks to gm.

I started the char much much earlier but 50-gm two weeks tops once I hunkered down and focused on leveling up.

Despise has every thing you need to gm a fencer.

Its been a few but some board research here and some advice from friends got me worked up to peerless worthy fairly quick.

    I prefer my Mage ;)

I'm not much for training on mobs either. Been there, done that many times during my first years of UO. Eventually the new wears off and its less about exploring content and more about getting the char completed so you can move on to the fun stuff. So I guess I sympathize with your plight.

Where we part ways in our thinking is doing it unattended. It's not worth a possible/eventual ban. Its easy enough to set up your golem, whack away at it and let the gains come as they will. Sitting there watching is the tradeoff. Read a book, clean your desk [you know it prob needs it], clip your toenails, call your girl, watch a movie.. there are a hundred things you could do to pass the time.

Take it like a man. You earned your mark.

How do you get caught for unattended macroing doing that? You should be able to get to GM before a GM can even respond to someones page.

And if you take away golems, the only thing that will happen is more people will have spellweaving on a soulstone for arctic ogre lord training.

  14. Cloak&Dagger

    Cloak&Dagger Guest

You do realize that doing things while hitting a golem is unattended macroing? he said he was there doing his real work....so watching a movie is the same, if you fail to respond with in seconds of the gm you lose (and yes you can miss it while watching a movie or cleaning your desk or doing anything) if you actually sit and watch yourself hit a golem...that is no different than going out and playing the game as it was intended.

UOKaiser 2 weeks at 3 hours a day is 42 hours of time, I suspect he did not go the fastest route possible to reach this level, and from 0-gm it took my wife about 13 hours play time, and i know from 100-115 it took me about 10 hours (I stopped keeping track of how long i played vs the gains I got at this point so 115-120 is debatable) but then, from 115-120 i never worried. at 115 is the point where I consider it safe to do anything, and I mean anything, I also doubt it took me 32 hours to go from 115-120 so again I don't think he took the fastest route. UMing has been against the tos since the start...so why, just because you have played for x amount of time do you consider it "ok" simply because you don't want to take the so called time to do it, you have better things to do with your uo time but you are doing NOTHING while you are hitting the golem....so you don't really have anything better to do.

But again I do not push my play style on anyone I just do not find your arguments to be valid enough to where I think the OP should not have gotten the warning, of course I do not think he should have gotten it based on other things I have stated.

Edit: Lynk is unfortunately correct, there is nothing you can do to stop things like this they already changed the golems to take damage, don't the arctic ogre lords take 0 damage from a certain damage type? never tried that.

Okay BYE to them! heh. They will be back. Free shard PvP is low attendance. They cant make $$ off it.

They will buy advance tokens More $$$ for EA
They will buy sot's More gold for players

I got tired of wahcking on a golem so i just started taken the noob out doing champ spawns.or the goofy trogs loot em up get extra gold and train skills..Golem training so sucks i feel your p;ain .

  17. Less time than it would take beating on a golem. It doesn't matter what your excuse was, have fun with the ban. We'll all have 1000's of ToT arties when you get to use your account again and will be happy to sell you some.

Btw, you can train a melee skill up from 0-120 in about 8 hours or so. I've trained all of the melee skills, and found all of them to be ridiculously easy to train up, so I'm not sure why you're finding it so hard.

Oh yeah, it's because you're beating on a golem instead of fighting things at your skill level. Oh well....

Training on a golem is for newbs that don't understand how the game works.

You can easily train any given melee skill from 0 to 120 in a single day if you want to play the game all day long. If you don't have all day then put in a couple hours a day and by day 4 or 5 you should be finished.

You waste a lot of time training a skill on a golem because gains are so slow after a certain point. The same is not true for mobs. If you know what monsters to train on based on your current skill then training is not only much easier and faster but a lot more fun.

I trained many many skills through normal game play for this very reason. macros are the least amount of effort but take much longer in many cases when you could be doing what you are supposed to PLAYING THE GAME I have to stress that fact because you pay for your account and you also invest your time into the game. You should want to get your money out of it.

The only other thing I want to mention here is that building your character is going to be one of the most enjoyable parts of the game. You may disagree now but the fact is that once your characters are finished there is a whole lot less to accomplish in the game. I finished my characters out on my accounts and then had less interest in the game. I hated building my characters all the way until I finally realized that building characters is the biggest part of the game. You wouldn't pick up a game and play it half way in using someone else's saved game would you? Then you should build your characters the right way or your missing half of UO.

  19. Stop hitting golems, they've done nothing to deserve the beatings you lot give them

At least you've owned up to UM-ing. Good for you.

However in all the years I played, I *never* and I do mean NEVER raised my skills (melee or otherwise) by ways other than actually doing it while seated in front of the screen. Yup - died a lot ... but somehow I got to my target skill level.

Maybe you should try it ... it could actually be fun. <shakes head> Nah, makes a lot of sense doesn't it ... playing UO like it should be done.

The greatest sentence I've ever read on these forums.. it is so not-refreshing to walk through Luna and see a half dozen people fighting golems, only to then travel to a dungeon and find it as abandoned as it must have been on the first day of UO's existence.

The main reason I can't stand golem training is because you can train a template from 0-120 without ever stepping foot into an area where even a mongbat exists (i.e. Luna walls).

  24. Can ANYONE reasonably tell me why Golems don't hit back? If you are attacking something, it should be able to hit you back.

Unattended macroing is unattended macroing, reguardless of what your doing. Busting golem bashers is probably the easiest thing they can do since most people do it at the same location, so all they have to do is pop by and ask how everyone is doing and those that don't reply gets dragged to jail. I'm starting to believe that they are training more people to be able to GM UO in anticipation of the increased pages for the new expansion. Then again, I also believe Elvis is still alive working as a manager in a Dunkin Donut shop, so I could be wrong.

With the new pet commands, when you tell a follower to "all stop" they will not fight back. This command was put in because tamers were getting frustrated at telling their pets to follow them and anytime something flagged to the pet, off it would go to attack it. Before that it had something to do with telling it to guard you, and after it hit you once it would stop.

[Sarcasm]I have decided to take this to heart.

I get real sick of sitting at my desk, actually working for my money.

So, since working for the reward I seek is boring to me, maybe I will just steal the money I will make over the next 15 years, instead of being a "Slayvite" to my desk and job.

    Yeah...that's the ticket.

I will just cheat/steal to get ahead...why? Because I find it boring working, whilst others are rich and aren't working. I know people that have already earned millions...why should I have to work for it, after all?

    Not fair.

    :wall:
    [/sarcasm]

I hope they ban you. That would be fan-friggin-tastic.

The ONLY thing better than banning people like you that think it's OK to cheat, because they have justified the activity in their own minds, would be to ban you, and THEN make it so that ONLY active UO accounts can come on Stratics.

That would almost be like winning the lottery.

    Almost.

You may not see the problem in this but I sure do. If UO was a single player game, I would not care how you did play it but UO is not a single player game.

I love UO because it let me meet players from all over the world and interact with them. If all are macroing in their houses, it is killing UO as players like me will get bored and quit.

Unattented macroing is bad for the game and not allowed. That's how it should be.

I don't see how doing something within the confines of your office/computer area is considered UMing unless you fail to respond to a GM. I have never failed to do so. Many times, I am there watching the screen. Other times I keep my volume at a level so I can hear and I sit right next to the monitor doing whatever it is I've found to do... including reading and watching movies, yet I have never ever failed to respond to a GM. Why this has suddenly focusing on what I do, is beyond me, but I will take a moment and explain how it works:

If I leave the room to go to the restroom= Unattended
If I am sitting in front of the monitor and respond to a GM mark= Attended

You're welcome and I am happy to have cleared that up for you.

  32. No, no... I understand how it is done, just not the logic of why we should be able to do that. If you hit something, it should hit back.

    SO WHY DON"T THEY?

I don't understand why Golems are in the game. NO ONE hunts with them. All they are used for is to skill train AFK. Period.

And to the not so bright people that do it right outside the Luna gates - you all should get banned.

Go take it to your house and do it so I don't have to look at it if you are going to do it.

    'I can't gate blah blah...'

Well, take out of stable. Go to house. Log out, Log in. Golem next to you. Problem solved.

Citgo is fully owned by the middle east and employs alot of their people which Elvis is not one.

He's more likely to be found at Circle K or 7-11. Look for him munching on a day old hot dog and cherry slurpie.
