My semi-annual moan about the curse spell in PvP

For a quickly cast, low-mana, level 4 spell you get:

    1. Each elemental resists lowered to 60 - up to 15% extra damage taken per spell hit.

    2. All stats lowered, which results in: lowered HP, lowered damage output for dexxers as STR drops, slower bandage speed as dex drops, slower swing speed as stamina drops and less mana.

Curse would still be powerful with a max of 5 off each elemental resists plus a max of 5 off each stat; both of these reduced to 1 against a player with 120 magic resist.

And please save the "curse can be removed with chiv" (not easily if you are a red) and "use enchanted apples" (the delay between using is infinitely longer than it takes for curse to be recast) arguments.

Oh and mages with "I think curse is fine as it is, especially combined with necro curses" needn't bother posting either.

Curse doesn't necessarily lower swing speed. It is determined in increments of 30. And you can remove curse on a red, just need to gain karma. FYI, even though a red's karam title can't go past neutral, he can still have as much karma as a trustworth person. It's just that when you pk people, your karma tends to go down, try it out eh?

On a side note, I wouldn't have a problem with the curse time being lessened a bit against players with significant points in resisting spells.

[/ QUOTE ]Depends on the weapon and how close to speed increment boundary you are. Even dropping 1 stamina could cause a drop in weapon speed.

[/ QUOTE ]Would have slightly agreed with you up until they knackered the spawn rate in Fel. Now you can spend as long getting karma as killing people - not what I want to do with my valuable PvP time.

Not true at all. The demon temple is a great place to raise karma quickly and effectively.

[/ QUOTE ]Bah! My guy is a skilled assassin, not some monster-bashing Tramellite.

Max karma to can't-cast-remove-curse is only about 5-10 blue kills or maybe 10 mins of PvP at a raided spawn. If I have to spend time every day mindlessly killing demons then mages should need to do the same to be able to cast the curse spell. See how well that one would go down.

Plus none of this helps the majority of PvPers without chiv.

    These spells don't stack.

Many players don't play with all 70's. As anyone should know, the only thing you need over 60 is fire and poison to avoid dropping below 60 when corpsed. Just because YOUR resists are dropped by 10 doesn't mean it is so for everyone.

Any dexxer worth his salt carries potions and has an ecru ring. Loss of stat points is easily overcame and overtaken here.

    Please see above.

If I can find time to work my karma, so can you. Its as easy as finding someone with high karma, tossing on an lrc suit and mini healing them a bunch (which is easily accomplished with jewelry high magery or being human).

I'll bother posting just to laugh at you.

You're a stealth archer. And you think the Curse spell is a problem worth posting about.

    Says it all.

Once you've learnt to play a mage, i'll accept your judgements on matters like this. I don't see it happening anytime soon though. Do you have 6 archers on your account still, or is it 7 now?

  8. man it would be awesome to have to do 12 seconds of straight casting (without the target healing at ALL) to kill someone.

    ....

    yeah, right.
