    Good golly, Miss Molly Grue.

Getting hit on all sides in Moonglow, I can barely take out the Fallen Warriros solo, let alone the Shadow Lords. I'm dying more than Kenny McCormick.

I guess I really shouldn't complain about an event, but man -- this shows how much the absence of a slayer wep takes it out of my attack.

On the plus side, despite all the dying, my bank account is going up...

This morning was the first time I have been able to play since the event. My primary stealth mage is not very usefull, but I was able to pick off a few things and get some threads/sword/shields. Hopefully I can have more time and perhaps take my melee char there with a pixie swatter.

  3. Lol, yeh probably toughest thing I've done in a long time. Those wisps and fallen warriors can stack spells on you like no tomorrow!! I find the only way I can get anywhere is to buddy up with a tamer and hide behind their drag!

I aint killed anything at all in moonglow...maybe a hour a day in glow as yielded=
Got +30 shields and swords, about 20 threads and 4 cloaks...(simply for being one of the first 3 players each time to use the armageddon spell to guartee a cloak)
    Deaths about a dozen ...Rezzing !!! i forget but i like rezzing/healing.

Stealthers Rule Moonglow! Use the Beserkers dont Abuse em!!

I kill every single one I can find, and burn honor to get them out of the woods to do so.

And I have a stealther. [IMG]

  6. What REALLY sucks is....

    Casting through walls.
    Casting from 4 screens away.
Casting through multiple buildings from 4 screens away.
Getting Revs cast on you 5 times when it only takes 3 hits to kill the dang wisp.
Getting targeted from 4 screens away through buildings.
Having a corpse animated through a wall while you're holding something that makes you overweight, then get corpse skinned and have 5 flame strikes hit you because you can't run away.

Just to name a few..... [IMG]

What, you mean you can't survive the 2 hit killing fallen angels that follow you to hells end, the fetid essences that can attack you through walls and poison you nonstop, and the revenant summoning, blood oath casting dark wisps????? Suck it up you wimp!

Kidding aside, I've spent the greater part of the event being dead and getting rezzed. Now there are some points where there seem to be mostly dark wisps that spawn and not much else. I can survive that and put away some gold for insurance purposes. Other than that, my experience seems to be the same as yours. Oh and I have a pixie swatter and still die a lot. The downside to using one is that it has a hit area effect so that you end up attacking 3 or 4 monsters at one time when maybe you only wanted to attack one.....

I dropped the insurance on the second day. It cost way too much money and its usually pretty easy to go in and get your corpse. Just remember where you died. [IMG]

    ...

    I know the feeling.

I went through the same thing last night.

The only thing I can reliably kill are the Dark Wisps.

Fallen Warriors are a death sentence without a healer... 50+ damage through all 70s is too much to be able to heal. I was able to kill one for a sword last night due to a helpful and timely healer's help.

Fetid Essences are a waste of time, the poison thing is just insane (yeah I know... petals... want to find me a LOT that aren't hyper-inflated in price on LS right now?)

ShadowLords: I was finally able to get one down to nearly dead, but used what Blackrock I had in the process. died a few times, but DID get a cloak... probably the only one I'll see this scenario.

I know the frustration well, though I had a bit of luck yesterday getting a couple of shields a couple of swords (never hurts to scavenge), a Thread of Life (Hey Devs... you MIGHT want to consider patching KR the Thread graphics ya know!), and a cloak.

No I'm not getting a metric TON of the things like certain other templates are (must be nice to carry around a nuclear weapon by your side and STILL be able to fight extra if you desire), but at least I got a few things from the event.

    I'm actually getting bored.
I'm pretty much non-effective agents Berserker and Shadowlords.
My chars are not new, lacking a few power scrolls but mostly lacking gear.

but I have amassed a small fortune in plane gear and threads.

just starting to get bored with farming. I'm hoping this will advance next week. I am actually finding myself doing homework instead of mad bombing wisps. [IMG]

  11. (must be nice to carry around a nuclear weapon by your side and STILL be able to fight extra if you desire)

I actually obtained one of these nuclear weapons from a very generous Shadowlord. [IMG]

Another generous Shadowlord was gracious enough to grant me a pair of Assassin Leggings this morning too. [IMG]

All in all, I'm well above my initial investment in the event.

    Jesus... whine whine whine...

Ok Devs - make all the baby's happy - lets just allow people to go to the bank and say 'give me stuff' and they get a gump to pick any item in the game. Thats pretty much what this game has degerated too.

This invasion is not even remotely difficult.

50+ hits to an all 70's suit from fallen warrior. Uh - no. My 70's pally solo's these all the time with a fey swatter and when they hit me - I take 39pts of dmg. Not 50+. Go check your resists again bub.

Regarding other badies - they are all fairly easy to kill if you lure them away. Don't take 5-6 on at a time.

If you are that pathetic that you die all the time- then wear a virtue armor set that gives all 70's and is fully blessed. 0 insurance loss on death.

For the berzerkers - make sure you are using a mystic weapon and they go down fast. I can solo those but not without some jousting.

You don't need to hide behind a dragon, you don't need a tamer, it isn't only stealthers.

Get some good armor, a pally template, a pixie swatter and a mystic weapon and its a cakewalk.

20+ cloaks, 20+ threads and 200+ shields/swords later with a pally without much work. I've probably died a total of 20-25 times and thats mostly when I got para-ganked by a group of monsters. Other than that - it hasn't been tough.

For the whiner - go to despise and practice on lizardmen for awhile. Its more your speed.

I was talking about the super-dragons.

Yeah, I know... make a tamer. The thing is that I shouldn't HAVE to make a tamer just to be involved in a scenario. I'd like to be able to play a tank melee character and if not be able to kill what I'm fighting, then at least be able to stand up to more than 2 hits from a monster.

As it is, I'm re-working my main Chiv/Macer a bit to better include Bushido than I had been. I believe I saw a bit of a difference in just a couple nights' worth of retraining last night.

If you can't survive this invasion with a dexer - you should go practice on lizardmen. Dexers rule this scenario. Just learn to run and heal if you take a 50pt hit from a shadow or berzerker.

    My template :
    120 swords
    115 parry
    100 heal
    100 anat
    110 tactics
    rest between focus/resist

Get armor with lots of stamina and dex jewels with your dex to 125. My char dex is 150 with items and something like 170 stamina. Heals are fast and i swing fast. Whack, whack, whack, whack and fallen warrior dead. 150pts a hit.

I'm also wearing 40% DCI and 40% HCI (sam helm, heart of lion, jewels, shield). That makes a big diff too for you non-math folks.

Personally, I think the lack of playability completely ruins the event. With events like ophidians in vesper, players were working together to clear the city, challenging but with a sense of progress and above all fun. This is just a mad gank, totally unplayable on smaller shards and not much fun at all. I appreciate the effort but this one is a fail.

I have to agree this is a great summary of how the event area feels.

But hey regardless I have been able to solo several berserkers and grab up tons and tons of great stuff during this event.

  17. "50+ damage through all 70s is too much to be able to heal"

I don't get this. I get hit for 31 max while on a Paroxy swampy. Someone riding a normal armored swampy would take even less damage. How could you be getting hit for 19 points of damage more than I do with 70 resist?

Probably because I'm on a Polar Bear which doesn't give any additional armor abilities?

    Other than that, not sure.

As for running to heal... that's not always the best of moves in Dark Moonglow. It's pretty tough to get a monster separated and solo to begin with and running off to heal more often than not ends you up in a cluster of more creatures ready to rip your head off.

Like I said though... I did better last night than previously as I am changing my tactics and skillset a little (dropping Magic Resist to raise a few other skills higher).

  19. "Probably because I'm on a Polar Bear which doesn't give any additional armor abilities?"

Even that doesn't account for the difference in damage. I'm only getting 10% protection from the Paroxy swampy, which would make the total damage about 35, which is well under the 50 you say you're getting hit for.

Same with me, I hunt specifically for them when I can. Easy 1600+ gold per kill. Anyone know what it is they're casting that makes them invulnerable for a brief period? I've noticed that if you melee them, you're almost guaranteed a revenant as opposed to spellcasting or archery.

I love how they can spam you with flamestrikes. I've tried a few times to go toe to toe with them with a pixie swatter, but my parry isn't that good and I usually end up running away to heal. Or dying, that's always an option.

I talked to a friend about why I was having bad luck and he gave me a few suggestions (mainly that higher Bushido + two handed weapons is MUCH better than a shield for Parry purposes), so I started retraining and spent a Bronze Runic on making some War Hammers and ended up with one that has pretty high life leech and Hit Dispel 40%. That Hit Dispel has made a HUGE difference in dealing with the Revenants for me.

I pretty much gave up on the fallen warriors since I'm not planning on getting an ethereal mount for the character I've been playing, nor do I have the time to get a swamp dragon and wait a week for it to bond. Without mounted speed, it's just too easy for a huge damage dump or an unexpected additional mob to kill me.

I can solo the wisps, and with -a very large amount of time,- the fetid essences. I have the points in Hiding/Stealth so I've basically just been finding/luring wisps indoors, where I can fight them one-on-one with no problems.

Except sometimes I stand on a tile that can be cast on by outside (whoops), or fallen warriors will just fly through the roof for some reason. ?_?

My character has his skills in the 90s now, though, and they were 70s to start with ... it's made a little bit of difference, but for the most part the only things that have helped were my getting a full 70s suit. The barrier for entry to 'the event' is definitely very high, but I don't think it's insurmountable if you play smart.

Still, that said, the barrier for entry is higher than I'd personally like, and NO, I don't consider looting items off mobs a berserker daemon killed 'participating.' People who made characters to fight are perfectly within their rights when they find that their slightly sub-optimal gear or template make the situation unwinnable for them. Even if they're killing monsters with the sole goal of looting items, there is a huge difference between doing that and simply looting items off of public corpses ... especially if the character in question was one envisioned as a noble samurai, cunning combat mage, etc..

No way... I won't even think about putting up EoO in an area like Dark Moonglow.

I tend to only use EoO in a single enemy area as using it in "mixed company" tends to lead to less than optimal results.

Isn't EoO redundant for a lot of characters anyway, since their incredible gear + slayer already puts them at the DI% cap? [IMG]

I find I get more use out of Consecrate than EoO anyway.

Basically my current strategy relies heavily on Consecrate, Divine Fury, and Lightning Strike to provide the damage (started working in Honor into this as well yesterday), Bandages, Close Wounds and Confidence for healing, Parrying and Evasion for defense.

Like I said, EoO only comes into play in areas that have only one enemy type, and yeah, with mods and slayers it can get to the point of uselessness.

Anyone using EoO in Dark Moonglow from my experience in there has a pretty big pair of brass ones IMO.

I've gotten my survival skills up with the gains in Parrying/Bushido/Swords and the new armor, but I'm still doing pretty lackluster damage. I've been using that mini artifact halberd ... Blaze of Death? ... since every monster there seems to take fire damage pretty well, and it's been good for jousting. Against wisps I do about 40 damage, fetid essences 30, fallen warriors ... I forget. :V

Hiding/Stealth added in means that I die once or twice a day at most (and even then only because I play on a trackpad instead of with a mouse), but I don't have much room to work in additional damage-dealing skills. Chivalry doesn't mesh with the character concept, and I don't have room for both Necromancy AND Spirit Speak ... so considering Spellweaving, for whatever that's worth. [IMG]

If you are in a secluded corner, it works well enough. But yeah, running through the mobs with EOO up sets you up for a "WTF Just Killed Me" moment.

The Dark Wisps are easy enough. Those Revenants are a pain in the ass, and they seem to cast them at least 66% of the time (no, they hit archers with them constantly as well). It seems like when they are stationary, they are invunerable.

Fetid Essences are UTTER wastes of time. They dont die easy, they give lousy payouts, and they pursue you constantly.

I'm getting better at the Fallen Warriors -- but they machinegun uninterruptable heals with their eternal pool of mana.

The Shadow Lords, fuggeditabodit. I'm probably not getting a cloak from this run, unless I get really lucky. :p

I got lucky as I found a Shadowlord that noone had gotten to yet and simply WHALED on the macro I had set up in a hotbar for the occasion and took him from full health down to 0% (displayed, apparently, you can't use Armageddon to kill them) but died from the surrounding spawn a couple of times before he was noticed and moved down towards the rift, then I just made sure I was nearby when he finally dropped and one popped in my pack.

Made me feel better about the evening [IMG]

Best way to get the robe is use blackrock on a new one, by then you done over half the damage, then simplely ping at it while others attack it. Anything else hits you hide, or run inside the gate a for few seconds, try to hide while out of the rift and then go back to ping on it some more.

I just got my first cloak. I saw the ShadowLord(SL) spawn. I'm on my sorta new archer barley 102 archery and a little chiv. I EOO and CW and start firing. first shot in and a few more till someone runs in and BR explodes. I die and have to go out and res. I use my healing to res somebody mid fight. Then again I have to run out to res. This time I crash and have to re-log in and run out to res and back in to fight. 3-4 BR explosions go off in front of me, but I stay the course. Firing and running. Revenants chase me out the gate and back in. I have made every mistake I could have but still I fight. The SL falls to its death. I look in my pack to see a jet black cloak just for me. Thanks Live team! [IMG]

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is an exaggeration. I have all 65+, not quite all 70s, and they don't hit me in melee for more than 40ish. Make sure not to use a demon slaying weapon. Fallen warriors are "fey" and their opposing slayer group is abyss. If you are holding a demon slayer they'll do double damage...which is the only way I can think of for them to hit for 50+ on a 70s suite.

Still...for a melee warrior they are a royal pain. Even two people cross healing with bandages + close wounds and gift of renewal it can be rough to fight just one of them. More than one...forget it.

They illustrate that there is a problem with high end PVM and melee skills. The dev's idea of difficult means "hits like a truck". Combine the high damage melee hits with their impressive mana dump and you get quick death without back up healers. Even with backup healing it's still a struggle. One slipped bandage and that's the end.

Ranged templates only have to deal with the mana dump...and while that can still be a lot of damage, spell damage tends to be capped by spell at a more reasonable level so the damage arrives a bit at a time instead of one massive whack, which gives you time to heal through it.

Meleers have two problems that put them at a huge disadvantage. They have to worry about both spell damage and melee damage and they have to close the distance to their targets, which means they have no wiggle room to retreat if something goes bad. They can't get out of spell range in time...where the ranged templates can just stay near max spell range and take a couple of steps back if they need to heal.

Personally...I think meleers need to be able to interrupt monster spell casting. It's not fair to force them to deal with both types of damage, especially when the melee damage is often mildly insane.

Not trolling - just keeping it real.

Anyone who thinks this event is hard probably has a hard time with checkers too. These monsters are simple with basic tactics.

Of course, if you don't understand the game and carry a shield with bushido or cast EoO when it doesn't help or don't use DCI/HCI on a dexer or have low dex or use the wrong slayer etc... Then of course, it probably does seem hard.

If others are amassing hundreds of the items on the same template - don't come here and whine. Maybe read up and figgure out why you are so bad.

And blackrock for wisps? Who didn't know this and who doesn't run around Moonglow with blackrock in their pack at all times in case of shadowlords? Seriously.

[IMG]

These are the things I complain about ...... Now I can take any of these things except a Shadowlord by myself most the time..... however..... the trouble I have is..... I'm fighting a Fallen Warrior and the next thing I know someone runs by with 20 things in tow and low and behold 4 of those essesces suddently jump me despite the fact they were chasing someone else at first..... just to all whack me all at the same time while the Warrior flame strikes me 2 or 3 times in a row..... It's INSANE.... it's not so much what I'm doing.... It's that others bring the HORROR down on me.....

Or... the game itself I swear refuses to allow me to reach lord or lady as anytime I'm getting close EVERYTHING within 4 screens is suddenly drawn to me like a magnet and Of course I die repeatedly... And then I'm no longer in danger of becoming a Lord or Lady so now I'm free to go about my bussiness again until of course I become in danger of doing it again... Anyone else notice that???

    Kill stealing is also rampant.

I hate to appeal to the old bigotry, but it seems like lots of tamers on sonoma havve been issued that Elite Tamer Card which apparently entitles the owner to barge in on any battle he or she comes across...

    /edit
Also, lotsa folks seem to be cherrypicking Dark Wisps and Fallen Warriors to fight (since they drop items), and ignoring/luring away Fetid Essences for the rest of us to clean up...

Hate to argue this point, but there is no such thing as kill stealing in UO. Anyone can attack anything, and at an event like this, it's 100% certain that everyone will attack everything. If it moves, it dies.

As Mr. Skwigelf says, "Permits mes to disagrees...!"

Well, perhaps the terminology is a bit obsolete, but it has always been a bit of UO etiquitte -- don't just jump into a battle that someone else obviously has under control. I believe that's still the prevalent thinking. If you have any doubts, try it. In no time at all you'll have people making rather candid suggestions on what you can do with yourself and the horse you rode in on.

It would be great if we could say the primary player base motivation is that we are banding together to throw back yet another invasion, boldly linking arms against the latest threat.

But let's cut the Nightmarecrap here, the bottom line is 99% of us are there to harvest the latest arties. And when you solo a monster, you get a crack at the artie. When someone else helps himself, your odds just get halved. And so on and so on. So when you "help" me in a battle that I have well in hand, you are just diminishing the loot I'm fighting for.

Also, to fight a Fallen Warrior, I have to do all kinds of stick-and-move and healing (Im an archer), and it takes me up to 3-4 minutes to drop one, often precariously close to death (yeah, I know Mr. Baggins. I suck. Please refer to the bit about the horse you rode in on 3 paragraphs up). Its more than a little annoying to me for me to whittle him down to 1/3 life and then some tamer just waltz onto the scene, sicc Big Bad Leroy Brown on my quarry, and snuff it out in seconds doing nothing but spamming a vet macro.

Uh, tamers are a pally's best friend.

Those big dumb dragons take FOREVER to drop a fallen warrior. You can easily swoop in whilst engaged with aforementioned tamer and whack/whack/whack and kill it.

A tamer with a fallen warrior at half life will take like 2 more min to kill. With a fey slayer - you can kill in 10 seconds.

There is no kill stealing in this event - kill everything that moves. Thats the rule. There is instanced corpses. Sometimes someone swoops in on my enemy and kills it and gets the artie - sometimes I do the same. No worries - it all evens out.

To the guy with no blackrock - get a shovel and mine some. 30 min the other day netted me 4 more pieces.
