My thoughts on Necro Animate Dead

    I like that I am able to reanimate up to three corpses to help with crowd control, but I have a problem with their willingness to fight. About 90% of the time my 'zombies' just walk over to an adjacent tile from me and stand there. Not fighting and rarely defending me when a mob targets me directly. I would ask that the Developers would change how reanimates work.

    • Give them better artificial intelligence. They should actively seek out fights like my normal summons do.
    • Give me the ability to command my 'zombies' with "all kill". What's good for the tamer is good for the necro.
    • If the reanimates have to stay dumb, then add the rule that if one of my disinterested zombies is in between me and a mob that wants to target me, the mob must first deal with the zombie. Mobs should never ignore three animated lich lords and an RC hitting it to come after someone that has done no direct damage to it.
    Just my thoughts on how animate dead could be improved.

    First one agree.
    Second one disagree. I don't like the idea of control, I like the idea that they are just mindless killing machines, the same as EVs and RCs. I wouldn't mind it if they changed to attack whatever YOU target with necromancy spells, as if they were just following the magic.
    Third one disagree. I think mosnters should always have a higher priority to attack players, because I mean, who is the REAL threat here?

    I still think it ought to have the ability to rez one of your dead friends, but that's me.... it'd be nice even if for the next 5 min they slowly lose life over time like an animated corpse... until their body warms back up...

    The zombie becomes reanimated because of my characters magic. Why shouldn't I be able to command my own magical being?

    Who's the real threat? The three animated lich lords casting flamestrikes/ebolts and the RC hitting with armor ignore and bombard. :) My necro mystic is just the cute little red-haired girl standing in the back minding her own business.

    Thinking it would... or you could bandage yourself .... anyway I always thought it would help to make the Necro more of a "team" player.

    1) Can you control an EV? Can you control a RC? Can you control a Revenant? Things with no intelligence (like zombies) shouldn't take verbal orders. You animated them, they do their own thing, though I do think they should be aggressive like the other mentioned summons, or they are sort of pointless.

    2) You, the person who summoned the murderous creatures on top of them (and could summon more) should be viewed as the proper threat. I feel the same way about tamers. Meat shields are boring.

    I'd like to animate my dear friends and have their corpse join the fight! "The corpse of MalagAste is attacking you!" -no murder counts for zombie-related deaths of course.

    Outside of using the provoke skill on them, no. But they are aggressive so there's no real need to push them to fight.


    Yes. A revenant is a single-target summons. You cast the spell and target the enemy you want attacked. When the enemy or revenant dies, the revenant dispels.

    I agree to a point. If the reanimated were just more aggressive, I wouldn't have made this thread. They seem to want to stand near me and stare out into space while chaos is happening around them. If I wanted something to follow me around the dungeon, I'd just go j.o.a.t. tame a dog. :)

    Maybe. Only if the mob saw me reanimate the corpse. Line of sight and all that. A greater dragon shouldn't turn a corner and see three skeletal dragons, an RC and me and decide " Hmm... I think I'll attack the one not casting high-level spells on me."

    I'm just saying that if necros are going to have that spell, then it should have a better end-effect than just having three animated statues that rarely fight.

    Yeah animated dead quite often just stand there, or even randomly walk off like they have somewhere to be. I'd at least like to be able to issue a command that amounted to "attack SOMETHING already".
