There was once a fun and nice char to play.... I.e. mage/mystic (or any template using mysticism)...

The last change made on the Hail storm spell achieved to make that char nearly useless and no more fun to play. I recognized that some of its power was a bit too much but why the hell nerving it that deep ???J

Guess that once again the minority of the population has been heard... I dont care about PvP (if one still can this PvP when looking at the behavior of most Pk's)...
Cleansing was OP = nerf it !! Spell plague was OP = nerf it !! Hail storm is OP = nerf it !!

I just dont mind about playing a game called "who has the biggest"... I m just interested in dealing with monsters alone or in spawns... and all those changes put back this type of char to the level of useless templates.

You should have changed those spells by asking more mana to use instead... The way it is now just remove the ability to deal with interesting places...

If the future of UO is to make a warrior class (either sampires or dexxers) to be able to fight massive spawns you are on the way to reach that goal...

See what s happening now with Covetous pool hunt... either you use a dexxer of a kind or you just "work" the edges of the spawns... using casters there is just a joke : u keep loosing protection spell every other minute, you cant cast more than a couple of hail storm before its damage is set close to 0 (even with lot of SDI )...

Thanks anyway for giving me fun for a few months with that char...

Time to focus on my warrior i guess...

Heard of Nether cyclone? And if Hailstorm was making or breaking you in PvM, you are not doing it right on a mystic.

?? even with the changes mystic is still by FAR the strongest "wide area" attacker in the game, even without the magery stuff. Drop a RC and support it with spells, it's like having a portable GD. If you have magery as well, chain lightning can do massive damage, and a single EQ will clear the room.

In addition to the RC, Hail Storm was never better--overall--than a 6th circle arcane focus SWer, and was never intended to trump magery spells chain lightning and meteor swarm. There's an order to follow, and it isn't hard to adjust. If not for SA Beta testers, Mysticism would have been even more OP heading to production. A couple spells were "nerfed" before they even made it to home shards. But as we've found out, testing only gets you so far. Several years after ML Beta we find out talismans were never designed to work with mages. Orly?

Yeah, that's the kind of bug **** I just can't stand. If you take a moment you'll see why Hail Storm was changed, it makes sense, but not everything makes sense. I mean, you don't see see me still complaining about how I can't leech life w/ my vampiric embrace mage, while using talismans, right? ;P haha...and where's my damn magic hat veteran reward...

lol... oh no hail storm doesn't divide damage, the sky is falling and uo is ruined!

seriously... use wither then. And for all those that say "oh wither needs nerfed too!" All the other spells to a single target do flamestrike or flamestrike+ damage, whats a wither do, 20-25? wither has been a nice balance of damage for like 8 years, and now that people are having their 40 point non-dividing flamestrike aoe spell screwed with they are mad about it.

i kinda wanna lol at you, but i'll be constructive.

the basis of mysticism in pve surrounds the rising colossus and cleansing winds. to do what you describe, you should load up sdi and put on necro/ss/mystic/focus/magery/resist. Drop colossus, sit in wraith form, and wither the mobs. Wither won't do as much damage as hail storm did, but with the mobs in the wave pool you should have a never ending supply of mana.

The only reason dexers are heavily used is because of life/mana leeching, thats it, its not because of their damage output there.

you can not really just say hey use Nether cyclone when it comes to the hailstorm nerf debate. It seems that there are some people making general comment when they have no idea what the difference are.

    1. Nether cyclone seems to take longer to cast compare to hailstorm.

    2. Nether cyclone has a chance to fizzle even at 120 and the rng Gods just love to laugh at you with smell and sound of the good old fart when you most needed it to go through. While it might not get you killed most of the time but it certainly will in some cases.

    3. Nether cyclone has chaos damage so you can judge as accurately on if this next cast will kill the monster compare to hailstorm. This will really mess with people's judgement on when to move\when to run (especially when on foot) and yes once again it could lead to you to speak in spirit tongues and an useless newbie robe.

    4. Nether cyclone's "special pvp" ability of a temp mana drain actually could prevent you from leeching mana in wraith form.

Now lets talk about one fun bug with hailstorm. YES what a surprise another freaking bug. All hail the nerf bat with bug spike when it smashes you in the face. When using hail storm in TRAM!, you can flag BLUE pets of other people and they do aggro you if they are not on follow command. Granted the dragon does not do any damage, it is annoying. The same bug also make you flag your own RC so yeah that spell is pretty much as useless and it can be in most situations.

Dev, if you are going to do what you did to hailstorm, please just give us another useable spell or fix that bug.

if your looking at a char build from terms of skill, i always had more respect for a guy who could play a necro mage well. mysticism largely nerfed necro and almost stupid proofed playing a mage template.

i like that the dev's have put in some subtle changes lately to make hybrid temps more playable and bringing the validity of the necro mage back.

it seemed like you only saw garg throwers and mystic mages in the field there for a while.

I am a Necro and Mysticism Mage and I do make full use of Necro spells based on situation. There are certain situation where Necro spells are great and others where Mysticism spells will be better suited.

Character build DOES NOT equal to player skill. Your statement is not only inaccurate and bias towards Mysticism while favoring Necro.

Lets be clear, hailstorm nerf is a PvP nerf that had a pretty big impact in PvM and if you don't get that by now I don't know what will.

Well first off, i would assume nether cyclone is not intended to not divide damage as well.

but yes there is a hail storm bug. I had a friend who was on a blue at yew gate, attacked a red, stuck his dread mare on him, and when he cast hailstorm on the red he got guard wacked.

    So yes... another bug.............

I am stating the difference between nether cyclone and hailstorm prior to the nerf since my response was towards people's comment to just simply switch to nether cyclone after the nerf. As far as I know, prior to the nerf, hailstorm does not divide damage does it?

Do you really get what my initial response is really about? Because it seems like you are putting up counter arguments for the sake of putting up an counter argument.

I'm going by the OPs thing evidentally. His complaint is hailstorm doesn't divide damage anymore. who cares what was going on prior to the nerf if his complaint is post nerf lol. That guy said use nether cyclone because as it sits, nether cyclone doesn't divide damage. Get it?

Yes, and my response is to point out that is it not as simple as switching to nether cyclone just based on the damage not being divided, There are other differences which I stated when comparing the two when they both do not divide damage. I do not get why is it so hard to understand for you?

Just because nether cyclone does not divide damage does not mean it is a simple replacement for hailstorm. Like I said you are the one that obviously the one that does not get it.

i dont think character build equates to player skill in anyway. i just feel that a necro mage is more a thinking man's template. i feel its more difficult to skillfully play a necro mage over a mystic mage.

im not really opining on the hailstorm nerf or hailstorm versus nether cyclone. i rather respect this games long running ability to play a varied template and am all for changes that bring about wide diversity in the field.

Lol i get what you are trying to say... don't forget, you are the one that came at me. But what makes hailstorm so special? the mana difference isn't much, and the fact nether does chaos damage in some cases is a bonus (not everything takes cold damage now does it?)

Agreed. play both, i hadn't played a necro mage for years (got bored with it) played a weaver scribe, then msytic came out and played that alot, and then alot of pure mage types. Still use my mystic for grinder style spawn fights but that may change. Going back to necro now, i have no idea why i got bored with it. It isn't as high of dps, and an apple can screw half the crap you casted but it actually is alot more fun than i remember and has more utility.

You're wasting your breath I'm afraid. Too many epeen QQ'ers in here that would rather nerf than adjust their "skill" level to combat anything challenging. They want easy mode. PvP games and PvM games should never be mixed due to crap like this.

literally the Only problem with mysticism was Stone-form + protection. they could remove this whole diminishing returns damage with hailstorm/targets hit. if stone-form and protection couldn't be used together.
^^ I feel like I post this same thing EVERY SINGLE TIME I post regarding Mysticism + Pvp in any thread...^^

I loved pvping at spawns/harrys before stone-form protection was big, I don't like playing a mystic... Or a dexer. and it's boring as hell fighting someone in stone-form + protection.
now yew-gate is the only pvp that's even remotely fun to me, and even there' its almost nothing but throwers.
Things are being nerfed that aren't the root cause of that particular skill-set of being overpowered.

Hailstorm = Only overpowered when 4+ mystics use it at once. [which Almost NEVER HAPPENS]
stone form + protection = overpowered against everything non-mystic...

*wishes for Next patch/publish notes to contain...*

Hailstorm - no longer splits damage depending on number of targets hit.
Stone-form - no longer can be combined with protection to become near invincible.
Throwing weapons - Base Damage & Base Swing Speed scaled down to that of Archery Weapons.
