For some reason I was of the belief that we could not use these on siege (which was the main reason I started a character on siege) but something in chat the other night led me to believe otherwise.

So are we able to use these here or is it still disabled?

The ability to use them was added in the last publish. It is intended to help characters get started on Siege and hopefully increase the population some.

Even the old school Advanced Character Tokens work now.

What he said. Thats why we have ROT skill gain here and its why you cant train skills on vendors. I know it helps some people but siege is supposed to be a pain.

Really suck for those of us that had to start from virtually nothing. I just hope this doesn't completely noobify Siege!

The slippery slope began with soul stones and continued with teleportation tiles, vending machine artifacts, godlike pets... *shrugs* just gotta roll with it now.

I mean, I can't complain with what they did. Removed the RoT Cap was kind of nice.. It got tedious.. The Teleport Tiles should have never made their way on to Siege. I like the soulstones, it makes up for the lack of characters and it still limits from playing a lot of templates as stats would require change.

I like the old days before SS tokens where you could only gain 3.6 till 80 and 2.1 going forward. Those were the most fun as you would literally PvP and do things with low skills. It just added to the factor of being more difficult. A band of 4-5 70s/80s mages trying to do spawns or fend off PKs. The times when you could sneak into houses, now everyone has a Teleport Tile inside a hub to their location so theres no risk.

I think Imbuing is also a very ridiculous thing to add to the game. It killed the entire aspect of farming. Now people farm the new dungeons only mostly and on Prodo, search for uncursed useable stuff which is 1 in a billion. On Siege, it is all useful but the times where doing maps and getting 1/3s or killing bloods for the loot are way beyond us.

General Chat also takes away from the community Siege had and brings out the worst in people. I miss the days of going to the Taverns and actually talking to people in game, not sitting in my house able to talk to anyone.

Sadly, we will never have the old days again.

Oh, I agree Rumpy, Mythic has done some things recently to help promote growth on Siege. I am extremely grateful for this.

Things change. *shrugs* It is not 2001 anymore. I reckon if nothing had changed between then and now this game would be a footnote in gaming history.

I believe it did help us get more players. Sure some may say, it make Siege to easy, I will say it make more stay.
A char with 5x90 do still have a way to go before he/she are skilled to PvP but skilled enough to have fun doing PvM or crafting.
Some new Siege player choose to use a token, but there is still alot, who work their way up.

I'm so happy to see Siege grow and I don't think this new token will hurt us, nor do I think the new blessed newbie suit will hurt us as it's only give the char a some resist but can't be imbued.

I would not trade my start here on Siege. Training from nothing in this environment was what I wanted and I learned more about the game in two months than I had learned in 3 years on Atlantic. That said, I do not begrudge anyone coming to SP differently than I did. We all enjoy the game in different ways. If I came here now for the first time, I would not us a token, but it is fine by me that others do. My mantra is "by horse or by plane, just get here."

The allure of Siege is not in the "oh it takes 500 hrs to train a character." It comes with the danger that lurks around every corner. The ability to be PK'd anywhere at anytime. Monsters able to loot your best items. No insurance, but your one personally blessed item.

Those are what put the "Perilous" in Siege Perilous. Not an unnecessary time sink ROT system that was implemented before skills went beyond GM. ROT made sense when Siege Perilous was first introduced. Back when gaining skill was the hardest part of the game (even that can be debated.)

I COMPLETELY agree with this statement and back when I played I argued this very point feverishly.Unfortunately, to no avail.

i think the best option for training they ever did was the blackrock areas. it was 2 small areas you could train in and get .2-.5 gains. this was a magnet for pkers and also had high level blackrock infested nastys roaming about.

i sorta feel sorry for people who use these tokens , you're missing out on allot by doing this . sure it gets you into the tougher levels sooner , but one of the reasons i love siege is , with the challenges that come by just being here, even the lesser wins are fun again. if you use that token shortcut you're skipping thru allot of that , missing out.

the choice is yours. play with a character you built and can take pride in , or play with a guy you got out of a token . hmm ... you might as well buy someones account. (no sense of accomplishment)

i feel the same way about cheating , yeah there are speeders and auto everything scripts i could run , but would i enjoy a win knowing it came that way ? nope . give me my honest little victories every time.

andy recently posted about his first siege day . its exactly that sense of thrill (just succeeding in recovering his body) that makes siege fun. sure its a minor win by most peoples reckoning , but its also a genuine success for him that im sure did not come easy . if you can enjoy these little victories on the way up, you've just opened a whole new uo again.

these tokens take some of that from you .

sorta like unattended macroing . you pay to play a game , that you have a program play ... for you . (just doesnt make sense) dont be in such a hurry to rush to the end game . for what ... to be bored again ?

in closing i know some people only play for the immediate gratification . to you guys , have fun . knock yourself out, "win uo" in a month . then what ? ill still be enjoying my game . you can go buy another game and win that in a month too . ive been here 15 years and still find ways to enjoy it .

*shrugs* play as you wish ... its your money. for me its about the journey not the destination.

Honestly skills are considerably easier and cheaper to raise with ROT. It may take a little longer, but not much, especially after the removal of the daily cap.

But not everyone is a new player, they just have new characters. When you've raised every skill to 100 a dozen times over the past 15 years you just want to play rather than grind out skills.

Siege is not supposed to be a "pain". That's the complete opposite of what Siege is. Siege is "Perilous" and "dangerous" land.

As Uvtha said. All ROT is, is a time sink. It actually makes hard skills easy as pie to gain and max out.

Well I like it because I lost hard earned skills when my homes collapsed. One Mythic token, 6 burned vet rewards for soul stones, and a few alacrities have helped me to quickly recover skills crucial to how I like to play. I personally like the imbuing addition and the new dungeon loot. It really is conceivable to pvp outside factions now on this server. Alot of pvp/rp guilds like the orc left because it really did require you to power game to have any chance in pvp. I miss the old days to but I also remember when half the shard sat in public irc channels and shot the bull. It's not that much different than what we have now. The difference is almost all of those people who were committed to towns have left. There is also still room for player specialization even though all players can conceivably have all skills; there is just too much to specialize in.

I dont know why I keep coming back to this game but I do like it and it's still a good game if I do not get too caught up in the memories of the glory days.

I have to agree with Tib, things are going better, Imbuing and new loot do make it possible to PvP without factions items.
If the numbers keep increasing on Siege, I'm sure Orc, UDL and alot other old Siege guilds will find their way back. Many is still out there somewhere as guild playing other games. Sure the PK's will have to make sure they not run all the gatheres off the shard as the shard will need crafters, miners, lumbers, PvM'ers gathering leather, loot for relic and other imbuing resources.

The key to make that work may be some red RP guilds, like the orcs, who will make PvP fun for non PvP'ers, some blue anti PK who will challenge the non RP reds, who else will kill to many sheeps and to often if they get bored.

It was possible to PvP without faction items before. It just required skill. What was so wrong with GM Armor and 2/4 casting?

There was a periode where you did not play, where it was impossible to PvP without being in faction. It almost killed the shard, it splitted the community in faction and non faction.
The problem was, imbuing was still to expensive and Faction was mostly using faction items, so they did not need the crafters and the non faction gave up PvP'ing so Siege died as noone needed each others and non faction did not have a chance vs overpowered faction items.

Everything is much better now. Special the new loot made Relic cheaper but other imbuing items dropped in price too.

Actually the Mythic tokens are the only reason I'm still playing UO at all. I was primed and ready to quit UO out of sheer boredom with the b.s. crafting experience on prodo shards. Everyone could all do their own crafting with their seven characters (or more) and didn't need any other crafter to make anything for them.

I love playing a UO Crafter and merchant. it's what kept me playing after I tried out UO:Ren back in 2000. The ability to just buy a couple Mythic Tokens and have a Crafter & a Gatherer/Crafter character ready to go so I could continue the type of play here that I had loved to do on Chesapeake made the difference. I'd been tired enough of the game that I just hadn't been able to slog through the training time on Siege, particularly after the mandatory waiting involved with RoT, over the spring & summer of last year.

Because of the Mythic Tokens working on Siege, UO kept a customer.

I have to agree, if you are new to UO, you miss out on too much using tokens to buy your character. Most of my favorite UO memories are not from "end game" events but newb challenges that I suffered or conquered at various points of play.

However, I am a good example of a 15 year player with dozens of "from scratch" characters across multiple servers who would not have given Siege a try (again) if it were not for the Mythic Token working. I get maybe a hour of play per day on average. The last thing I wanted to do was spend months working up skills to change from my old broken template. The 5 x 90 boost allowed for an immediate skill alteration, even though I did have to pound on Ettins to get used to the new play style.

Because of my limited play time, it took 6 weeks to go from 90 to 100 in my first "token bought" skill. But at least I got to have fun playing, and will continue to do so, because I didn't get burned out grinding skills.

Me too, but I think imbuing went waaaaay too far. Like Rumpy said it DID kill a lot of the reason to PvM to the point that they HAD to add in the super loot we have now. I remember testers back when it was being beta testing expressing that exact concern, but were not listened too.

Still I think its waaay better than the olden times when you have to hunt for ages to find a decent 1/3 or the horrible faction arti fiasco days. Playing field is much much more even items wise.

Agreed its not a perfect situation but I do think imbuing has helped.
