I thought the requirement was being guilded, not unguilded?

And, yo can only gain off a golem if your skill is within a certain range. Somewhere in the 60s minimum, with the faster gains being in the 70s & 80s.

  3. i did guilded and i get attacked so someone told me to do it unguilded i dont get attacked but i dont raise either

Being guilded or unguilded has nothing to do with being attacked by it.

The requisite part is that if it starts to attack you, you must give it the command to stop, to make it stop autodefending. It may take several attempts to get the stop command to work.

I happen to agree, Arcus - but some people are bound and determined to do it the silly way - at least by telling them the right way I can stand and watch as they get slaughtered and their golem destroyed by the Strangers (then watch as their skill level doesn't help them with the personal skill of how to USE the skill in game...)

Devils Reject, hopefully you actually are an experienced player trying to fast-build a new character. Because, new players really need to learn combat skills via immersion, not golems. Good luck in your training, though.

Not all of us have time to spend sitting hours and hours and hours training a char that can be used in a month or two. I can train a char in two days on a golem.

Well actually I used to be able to, I have all the skills you can train on a golem on stones. =>

It's not like most weapon skills actually require skill to use them correctly, unless you're going to be soloing really high-end stuff, its just point, click, heal, heal more, click more, repeat. Who honestly cares if people use a golem to train skills? And there aren't really any new players in UO anyway, most people training on golems are most likely vets retraining swordsmanship for the 5th time.

    1. Must be guilded.
    2. Must not be in guardzone or house.
    3. ALL STOP, ALL STAY
    4. Attack 100% poison weapon.
    5. Works like it always did.

    6. Ignore the "noble" citizens who chastise this method when you know damn well they are either using a shadow ele to train their pets on their tamer, which is the same thing. Or, they are most certainly guilty of some other "offense" in UO. They are most certainly not the shining beacons they think they are. And even if they really are a shining beacon (doubtfully), it is NONE OF THEIR BUISINESS.

Oh and another thing, you have to be at 80 skill or higher to gain off a GM golem.
Just do it attended, and your doing nothing wrong.

Are you already at 80? Is the golem guarding you?

It is a popular lame method. Maybe this is character 6 or 7 and the dude is tired of waiting months to get skill through active game play.

Sick of gaining through normal game play because it never gains you anyways and sometimes takes months...check

Yes because you have to be in Luna to use a golem...thats funny...the only reason most people do it in Luna is because it is just easier to get the golem in and out of the stable, and most don't do it inside the walls where the Six spawn. Also, most of the people that actually dare to AFK script on a golem in Luna are normally the ones that actually do get banned for macroing.

Yes because beating on skeletons, bone knights, and earth elementals gets you much more ready for the game then beating on a golem.

I don't think many NEW players are even aware of the golem thing until someone tells them about it in game. That means they have to make in game friends to learn about it, and making ingame friends prepares you much more for playing this game then going to a deserted dungeon to beat on earth elementals.

God I remember being new...this was BEFORE the golems. It was back in the day but not way back in the day (2000). I had a mage/warrior template (when they were susposedly lame) so that I could kill creatures on my warrior (blood elementals were actually some of the strongest things in the game back then). I went from fencing to swords to fencing to archery all in about the course of a month on rotting corpses.

I only gmed my dog on shadow elementals. I train most of my pets on Gnaw, Tangle, Miasma, or Swoop actually.

Discording the same 6 blue beetles over and over count? :p

    I couldn't agree more.

I couldn't agree more again. With all the other issues in this game atm, why do players feel the need to fight each other over something as lame as how you chose to gain skills.

  19. Me thinks someone told the Vanguard about this training with Shadow Ele's :stretcher: as they bring a ton of them to be our playmates. :scholar:

I know that and you know that - but you'd be surprised of the people that think you gotta be in Luna (it's been over a year since I saw a golem trainer that wasn't in the Luna outer ring, just outside the guardzone - most were even attended). And, The Stranger follows you, so going outside isn't a help.

Your sarcasm escapes me..... It very much so gets you ready. You learn how to time heals for best effect, you learn when backing off for a heal or a spellcast is wiser than trying to do it in combat, you learn how to use special moves and other combat modifiers that will get you ATTACKED if you use them on a golem during training, and you learn which ones are and aren't worth using in your own game style. And, this is just scratching the surface.

That's funny.... Not only do many people get told about golems by people when they ask how to train skills, by NOT going out and looking for places, those that do train on golems often have no clue about what is where in the game. Most of the people of a level to use a golem, that end up getting set up with a golem by well-meaning friends or strangers, reach GM without knowing how to get to dungeons overland, or Cove, or Wind, or many, many other locations that they would have discovered by going out and looking for things to kill the old fashioned way.

I've met dozens of players, on a shard as small as mine, that were so dependent on rune books and rune libraries, that when the shard's primary rune library went IDOC and fell, they had no clue how to find Despise or Covetous (let alone the more remote dungeons)! A lot of these were brought in by experienced players - but those players had been brought in the same way, sometimes 4, 5 or more steps removed from people who learned where the major landmarks were the hard way, before the publish a year or two into AOS that made recall books no-fail with scrolls.

UO is suffering from the same geographical illiteracy towards Sosaria that much of the world is experiencing in terms of knowledge of real world geography.

    heres something interesting.
    or not.

depends on what ya find interesting.
but i cant train in tram or mala on a golem.
    have never been able too.

i have to do it in fel side.
and i also have to have some tinkering to heal my golem.

i have some guild mates who can sit for hours and gain no problem and dont have to heal their golems.

    not me.

    strangest thing.
its allways been that way too.
so its not like its a new thing.
ive just never been able to gain skills in tram ruleset with a golem.

and on a side note, wouldnt you HATE to be a new player trying to 110 archery!!!!!

like holdy COW are bolts $$ at the shops!!!

i recentlly started a archer on a new shard and near fell off my chair when i went to load up on bolts and saw they where 38gp per.

i shopped around and cheapest i found on that shard was 28 per.
makes me miss the days of hitting the shop at server up and getting them for 5gp per.

(k, gonna need someone to post "just go out and make the 60k in bolts ya need")

Well Poo, how about just go to the gypsy camps in Ilshenar? Since they completely respawn daily, the prices reset each time. 5gp bolts should be a little easier for your new character.

To the OP, have someone use animal lore on the golem. You need +/- of 25 points to gain in a melee skill. If the golem is 100 you can start at 75 and go to 120. If all else fails and you plan on healing in your template, just use a trinsic palidin and a dagger.

Your Wep/Tact must be within so many points of the Golems' to gain off it. Think it's like 25.0 - 30.0 points. Not all GM Tinkered Golems are the same. http://www.uoguide.com/Golem Oh, and make sure you're not using a weapon with Magic Arrow/Harm/Fireball/Lightning, that just defeats the purpose of 100% Poison. Some people with SW also use "Dryad's Allure" on Arctic Ogre Lords and train on them with 100% Poison Weps in much the same way.

Back in the day we used the BK Room in Deciet. We called it the Bonewall. Would have players lined up in a "wall" to keep the BKs from surrounding us. Would find lots of player's training their skills there, Mages would GM Wrest there too. Another way that Mages would GM Wrest before Golems was to summon an Earth Ele, tell it to guard them, then punch the hell out of it. We also used to use the Hirelings in the Jhelom Pits and keep them healed. That's how i GMed LJ 10 years ago. When UO: 3D came out, another popular place was the Humility Shrine in Ilshenar, someone would go lure the Rott from the fort that's down from the Shrine, and everyone would X-Heal and beat on the Rott for like 10-15 mins. Whenever someone got Poisoned, they would dbl click the Ankh and it would Cure them. People loved it when a Macer with a Q-Staff was there, because would beat the hell out of the Rott's Stamina to where it rarely swung.
