So I noticed a few of the EM's will not be using Stratics to post events but are moving over to social media to do this.

So far I have found Atlantic, Origin and Oceania but not any more. Any one else have the links?

    Atlantic
    Origin
    Oceania
    Legends (thanks @Dixie chessy/legends)

(Note to EM's - Why not use the same page URL's to make the pages easier to find but just change the shard name at the end?)

    Atlantic is "uoematlantic"
    Oceania is "UOOceaniaEM"

Why not just UOEM(shardnamehere) then its soooo much easier to find. #justsaying

Oh yeah, before people come on here shouting how much they hate Facebook, its the work of the devil etc etc. please remember YOU DON'T NEED AN ACCOUNT TO VIEW THE CONTENT!

If you don't even want to view the pages just because they are on Facebook, well that's your loss. I guess you will just miss the events!

I think its a great idea myself. I do think one page to cover ALL events would of been a better idea though.

I would still pick some kind of event calendar where ALL the shard events are listed in ONE place would be a better option. People can then subscribe to this and get notifications on their phones or email reminding them of events that interest them.

Napa Valley's EM made a similar post earlier, titled "The Napa Valley EM Team will no longer be using Stratics Forums", though it seems to have been removed. And it didn't say anything about facebook, just the EM website and if I remember right, twitter. Maybe he/she changed their mind?

People have their preferred communication methods. Generally speaking though you try and get the word out in as many of those mediums as possible because your audience may or may not frequent your choice. Restricting yourself to one medium is really counter productive in achieving attendance. Its kind of like that old adage that has long since been lost on UO, "the customer is always right".

If I was trying to solicit for an event I would post everywhere possible so I didn't miss people. The people attending the event being my "customers..."

Post it all up on Facebook and then link it wherever possible might be a decent solution. I don't use FB so I don't know all of its nuances but maybe content can be embedded so you don't actually have to go to the site?

The thing we need clarified, since I'm wondering how we are supposed control information people bring with them when the log on from outside sources. Considering I know exactly who has access to what level of information, I'm pretty confident the issue isn't being created from site security.

Each shard did have its own EM website but they don't seem to get updated anymore. Maybe they are going to start using them again.

I still think a Google calendar or something like that would be the best and easiest solution. All events listed in one place and people can view and subscribe to it.

There was http://www.ultimaonlineevents.com which was spot on but sadly it seems to have vanished.

Also UOForums had a calendar which would show EM events but this seems to no longer be updated. http://www.uoforums.com/calendar/

These are very good ideas actually. I'd totally subscribe to an event calendar for things I was interested in. Getting alerts and so forth automatically, would make things a lot more streamlined.

Now remember, we're in the middle of migration right now so the calender hasn't been added to because anything we input now won't be saved. But every event in UO will be visible on this calender.

I think its because they were feeding from the EM websites and updating, but not positive. I can definitely look into updating the calendar of events.

who is going to update it tho? if broadsword requires the EMs to update that is one thing, its another thing if some other person has to take on the task of continually keeping it updated. Remember, some EMs have a set schedule for the month, some only post a few days in advance, some of the less consistent shards even cancel / reschedule events at will, sometimes only announcing the change at in game house of commons or town criers. Its a daunting task to keep updated.

Couple of things on this, Players will be able to add things to the event calendar as well, so not just EM events, but Player Events can be posted to it.

Feeds come in many forums and flavors, we've had some stop working due to updates to either the EM's site software or our own caused incompatibilities. The new site each Group associated with an EM's Event or Title will have a feed, I hunted down every single one of the EM Sites and pulled their feed information, if it's working on their end it will show up. The same with Groups for Titles, if they have a working Feed, we'll have it going to their groups activity stream.

Yeah we started migrating awhile ago so nothing has been updated. There will be dedicated staff updating the calender on a regular basis. We were hoping for the EM's to update their own events on the calender as well but seeing the recent issues I am not clear how that is going to play out. It will be kept updated though.

Guess then I won't be able to post anything to the EM's anymore. I WILL NEVER use Facebook or have a Facebook account. So pisses me off to have stuff try to force you to use the crap. More things go to Facebook and Twitter the more I just want to quit. I don't pay EA/UO to use Facebook. I pay to play UO not to give money to Facebook and Twitter.

While NO I wouldn't need an account to VIEW the stuff ..... However in order for me to contact the EM and leave feedback I'd have to.... which to me is a MAJOR NO WAY.

Facebook is run by Satan. I refuse to comply.

We can do it, it doesn't take long. It's part of what the Community Liaison position will be for. Helping coordinate and keep the community of a title informed.

This is slightly off topic, but will stratics tos continue to require all non-english posts to be posted both in the native language as well as english? i never mentioned it before, but noticed over the last few months this requirement was getting pretty lax. many posts were not translated.

just saying, i hope its a paid position because believe me when i say its ALOT of work. we have multiple people keeping tabs daily on all the different EM sites, and even then things slip thru the cracks. Some EMs dont post the times zone adjustments right and they have to be checked. changes the day of the event sometimes. Its just something that has to be pretty much checked daily to have any level of reliability.

I think most of the EM's still have email address which are listed on the EM websites (post #9) so I would hope they are still contactable using these. I totally understand the feedback part. Its easier to post in a forum thread than have to go to social media, find the page, find the date, find the event and then comment.

@Smoot It would be really Easy if the EMs could keep up with their own websites. However, most of them dont even update their own websites and when they do its very rarely in a timely fashion. Again, UO mindset is so outdated, they arent utilizing the very basic technology to make this easier for its customers. Google calender and others are so easy to use, my 8 year old nephews homework assignments are on Google cal. It is just another example of how the UO staff is stubborn and set in their ways. I appreciate all the work they do, but they love making it hard on themselves.

exactly. personally, i would just make it a requirement that to be an EM you would have to update a google calender. that decision is of course in the hands of @Mesanna tho and is not mine to make.

I don't consider myself a "power user" with Google calendar but from my understanding the whole thing could be run by the community (people submitting EM and player events) and then the DEV team can just approve them with a simple tick of check box and then they would appear on the calendar. I guess that would mean there really isn't that much work involved. Just approving things that can be viewed and deleting any junk that gets submitted. It could even be embedded onto UO.com which would be another win.

this might become problematic tho, as what if it were fed with misinformation? i understand it would need be approved, but the dev team doesnt keep up with EM events, i wouldnt expect them to know what was real and what was posted just to spam / troll / throw people off.

(the fact that the last atlc event item was approved also doesnt give me much faith :p)

Yea maybe just the EM's could add their events and any player events should go through that new event coordinator person. (Do they even exist yet?!)

I am a sound engineer/tour manager in RL. I run about 5 google calenders for various groups/bands. It is very easy to set access to let certain people edit and others just to view. I could set up the entire EM staff and UO staff in about 20 minutes.

Nope, nothing was scraped; it was 90% being manually input by me, with Longtooths, then Scribbles and Flutter filling in the rest. Searching UOEM posts, stratics, Facebook, and all the rest to look for any newly posted events just took too much of my time, esp as I don't actually go to 95% of them. Esp with EMs sometimes changing dates, times, postponing, etc, it was also difficult to keep updated. I'd given another 20 or so people access to edit the calender... but pretty much everyone was only using the site, while noone was helping to keep the info up to date.

@DJAd and @Scribbles - by the way, that site is just a front end Longtooths put together. The calender itself *is* a Google calender. That calender still exists; I'm not going to be removing it or anything any time, if anyone wants to keep using it. Scribbles, I know you have access; DJAd, I think I gave you access, but if I didn't, and you want access, let me know. :)

i would count your blessings lol. a few shards dont post events more than 2 days in advance, and 1 notorious shard has the habit of rescheduling events with as little as 30 mins notice. the town criers on sonoma seem up to date to me, but im more thankful that she at least has a consistent schedule and rarely postpones / reschedules events as some other shards do.

Guess I can't complain about GL's. Elizabella and Malachi do a pretty good job of announcing their events. Typically the criers announce the Tuesday events all the time. GL's regularly has an event every Tuesday night and sometimes on the weekends... though I can't attend the weekend events they have done wonderfully in making the concession to hold the Governors Council meetings on Mondays opposite our High Council meetings so I can attend. Otherwise things are good.

As far as knowing when they are they typically used to post on Stratics when they were and where. Now I have to rely on others to inform me of where they are since I don't do the facebook thing... don't really see the posts anymore.

And since I don't do events on other shards I guess I don't know how they are.

The GL site feeds over automatically to the GL Stratics forum. (As do most shards) For example, for this month: https://stratics.com/community/threads/em-events-april-2015.338489/

Since most EMs use their website, they will have their posts fed over directly for posters on Stratics to see. I think only 3? or so EMs don't use their site (They should IMO). Shouldnt ever be a reason to have to log into Facebook, but it sure is a nice option to keep up to date ^_^

Don't most shards have like news reporters? Wouldn't it be easy to link up with one dedicated community player to update your shards events? Is this that tough?

Go to UO.COM and click on the COMMUNITY pull down and you will find EVENT MODERATORS. Click on it and they all go to UOEM.NET. In other words UO says UOEM is the offical EM Site so all EM should use UOEM and then other sites as well.

These are the shards that do not use a UOEM website or it doesn't have a working one:
    Origin (Doesnt Work)
    Legends (Doesnt Work)
    Chesapeake (Not updated)
    Europa (Only uses Facebook now)
Lake Superior (Not updated since EM Falcon left)
Baja (Usually updated, not updated this month)

http://uo.com/UO-Event-Moderators Is also out of date, with many EMs listed who are no longer part of the program/on different shards.

All of the EM site links are confirmed on Stratic's new interface (right column under official UO links) - even the Asian shards. Some sites are "broken" or not functioning, but their recorded url are there. I check them periodically to see if they are working - and we've let Broadsword know.

Also the RSS feed from each EM site is auto-fed into the shard boards if it is available. I think only the two that are not working (Legends & Origin) do not send feeds.

The reason the event dates are not auto fed into the forum calendar here is that each EM posts things differently - some with bulk dates and others last minute. Also, the calendar feature here in our Forums is a Post Extension, meaning someone needs to physically alter the post (explanation here: https://stratics.com/community/threads/new-feature-events-calendar.337017/)

Volunteers to help keep up with this on Stratics are needed - shard reporters would be perfect. :)

UO.COM is the OFFICAL site fro UO so all, i repeat ALL EMs should be required to use this first and then other places as they wish., SORRY just tired of looking everywhere for UO when it should all be on UO.COM and UOStratics.COM first and other places 2nd.
