First I don't post in Uhall much, but I have been playing the game since release. Over the years I have played and enjoyed both sides of the spectrum in regards to PvP and PvM. Over the years I have randomly pondered ideas to bring people to fel. Not in the fashion of sheep to wolves, but to allow tram players to experience fel in a fun, fair, and rewarding light.
I feel our current power scroll system works well for the hard core pvpers, and I am against any idea to change that. It is still one of the few perks fel currently has.

What I am proposing leaves everything as is, but adds an additional encounter to the game that will appeal to both tram and fel players a like. My idea currently is just an idea, and there is room for change but I think what I have so far is a pretty solid concept. Please no flames or bashing. Look at my idea as unbiased to either side as possible, because I think it is something we may be able to make happen to finally quench both play styles.

This encounter happens in a large instanced setting (similar to an entire dungeon floor). There is a vendor placed in tram and fel next to a turn in alter to begin the encounter. The vendor sells keys at 20k each and you can only purchase one key per account every 3 hours.

To begin this encounter the alter combined total of keys must be 10. The keys already placed there do not decay unless the person logs out. Once the alters receive 10 total keys (either turned in in tram or fel or both) all players receive a gump warning that the encounter will begin in 5 minutes. All players must bank or store all of their personal belongings, all equipment and items in their bags and on their paperdoll. They will not be teleported until they are completely naked and empty. No summons or pets will be allowed during the encounter, everyone will be on foot, and stealth will not be allowed. (tamers can still fireball or shoot arrows *wink*).

Once the encounter begins all players enter a sealed random room at random locations on the map. They will then be able to chose a basic armor and weapon set for their class. These items are blessed with a decay timer of two hours (or until you leave the event). They will also be able to gather consumables from a chest that are also blessed with a decay timer of two hours (or until you leave the event), bandages, potions etc.
(this part of the concept evens the playing field and new players can participate on the same level as veteran players)
Players cannot leave until the boss is dead or the timer of two hours is up.

After 60 seconds to supply and equip the doors open and the encounter begins. This encounter is similar to a champ. There are random monsters to kill to advance the spawn. Player deaths also advance the spawn.

All pinks, power scrolls, and items dropped during this event have a blessed timer of 2 hours. If the encounter is not completed in 2 hours all players are ported out with any items they were rewarded during the encounter. If the boss is killed before the two hour timer is up, all players are ported out with all the items they were rewarded (minus the equipment) to the same location they began the encounter at.

-No murder counts will be awarded during the encounter. Anything goes.
-When a player kills a monster, kills a player, or die themselves they have a random chance to receive SOT's and 105 power scrolls. Personal deaths count toward spawn advancement.
-When a player dies they are ported to one of the 10 random starting rooms and ressed with full health and gear equipped, and they can rejoin the fight.

    The Boss

The boss has a lot of health, and it would be more beneficial for all 10 players to work together for his death.

All rewards the boss drops are temporarily blessed for 5 minutes (long enough for everyone to leave and gain a safe location)
If you are dead when the boss dies these items are given to you still in your bag.

-The boss awards each participating player 1 power scroll of random value.
-The boss has a chance to reward up to two random high end peerless items (crimmy, swampy etc.)
-The boss has a chance to reward up to two random super awesome boss specific rewards of leetness.
-The boss has a chance to reward up to two random SOT's of any point value.

Well there is my raw concept.
This will allow pvpers to pvp, and this will allow tram players to experience pvp without fear of losing anything and also enjoy the shinneys they are guaranteed to get.
This will be pvp on even ground with even gear and items, even new players will have a chance to kill people.

I am sure some tweeks some exploitation precautions can be made to the concept. But I feel it is a good working mold and idea to give both worlds something they would enjoy.

So what say you good citizens of UO?

That's the only part I don't like of it. It's begging for abuse; just take a look at the spellweaving thread I made and people's work arounds to get a focus (one of the ones mentioned more often than others) was to make a bunch of trial accounts and get a focus. In my opinion some of the more devious types are just going to make a bunch of trial accounts or even 1 and just spam kill it or them to advance the spawn to it's end point.. that or just take all the stuff off a second legit account, and go kill that one a bunch. Granted I believe it would be pretty rough having all the extra spawn to contend with from all the previous levels that they skipped over, but generally these same types find some way of exploiting the system and finding a safe spot to drag the boss once it appears, and kill them that way. The whole rest of it seems pretty tasty :D

Hrm perhaps there can be a skill cap required to purchase a key of at least 700.00? And the account must be a paid account at least 30 days old. That would fix that I think

I like the idea. Purchasing the key from a vendor is a great idea! Plus having the key count from either Tram or Fel would make it more interesting as you would not be guaranteeed to know who would be taking part in the battle. You may try to take a party of 10 in Tram, but there could already be 3 keys placed in Fel. It would also be great for players who have limited gaming time. They would not need to worry too much about getting a group together.

One thing I'm not sure I understand is the time limit. Would other players be locked out of the dungeon, or would another party of 10 be able to join in whenever? Just thinking out loud here. Either way may be a bit of an issue. Either from players being locked out, or by chance getting in once the boss has been summoned. I guess there could be a access timer to stop additional players from joining in. Like once the spawn reaches a certain level.

I think the reward for dying should be a low percentage as that could be abused. Especially with scroll binders.
I also agree that the account must be paid for in order to access the battle.

Again, great idea and something that I would definately take part in!

I don't know about the player killing player for reward part.
What's to keep our guild from just farming each other for shinys?

Darkwolf has a good idea with the decreased drop chance of reward if you die. (but there should still be a chance so someone dieing involuntary over and over again can get something lol)

I feel the instance should require 10 keys to join with a max of 20 players. 10 additional people can come in prior to the spawn gaining lvl 3. After that an additional instance would be open and available for new people to key for. similar to how the Medusa instance works. There can be a total of 3 going.

I feel the more damage you do to the spawn and boss the higher chance you have to gain items. So it would make people farming not the prime focus.

In addition the drop rate for the pinks and 105's in general should be very low so the prime goal is to kill the boss and not just the spawn.

It sounds fun, and I respect your attempt.. but honestly I don't think it would work. Heres why..

Tram-preffered players simply have no interest in any form of PvP. Granted, your idea does indeed offer zero risk of losing items but honestly, insurance removes that risk in global pvp too. It would be fun gearing up equally, but "Trammies" also have high end suits now with very little difference then those the pvper's are using and could compete if they invested a little time, but the desire just is not there.

I think this would be fun for the pvper's, but Tram players would still not participate and until we can get some support on new content exclusive to fel, anything requiring PvP would also be ripped to shreads by those so opposed of anything Fel-rule set related.

Still, kudos for the idea.. if only there would be participation.

    This Trammie would! :gee:

I do understand what you are saying though Corpin. The reason I would be more apt to join in on something like this is mostly due to the limited amount of play time I normally have. I also do not have the high end suit, so the armour part of the idea would be more enticing to me.

On the other hand, I do wander around Fel on occassion and have been killed on a few occasions, which doesn't bother me. Maybe one day I will even win a fight... So maybe I'm only 80% Trammie....

I am no PVPer but honestly, this is an AWESOME idea! Reminds me of how we played a certain shooter in the 1990s, forgot its name: Everybody was invited to join the fight, but every player had to chose only a club as weapon and no gear. So about 25 naked people with clubs running around having fun with bashing each other. Winner had to be good at fighting and at making friends and socializing. TONS OF FUN!

Your concept sounds alike - of course, much more sophisticated. And you know what? I am no PVPer and I really would participate! Of course! The idea is great!

I think Giggles is on the right track to making PvP a going proposition for those without the uber gear suits. This is the first really promising idea that has been thought of. A little fine tuning to limit people getting around the rules and it would be worth a try on TC1.

    I understand your point, but I think this will get some "Tammie" involvement for the following reasons;

What are the tram players usual fears when it comes to fel pvp? Lets use current fel spawns as an example.
    1. You do all the work just so one red can pop out of no where, take your reward and leave. (This encounter wouldn't have that fear.)
    2. The shame of dieing. (This encounter makes death pretty certain for everyone.)
    3. The hassle of death, and finding a way to res. (This encounter will have no hassle in death and your immediately put back in to the fight.)
    4. The hassle of resupplying your potions and bandages. (Again the encounter would not have such a hassle)

Now lets look at modern day pvpers...

Most pvpers don't care about the loot, they enjoy the thrill of the fight. This encounter would give them that plus a little loot for their time.

I think this encounter would even work well on siege since the items aren't permanently blessed.

I agree, but still 1-4 isn't anything more then a minor inconvenience and Tram based players still find it too... out of their liking.

With #1 in particular, I play on a very PvP heavy shard and if I wanted to chain spawns in an educated manner choosing obscure altars, there is a 10% chance I will get raided. Most tram based players despise fel and potential death by player so much they won't venture out and discover it for themselves.

I'm not disagreeing with your original post, it would be fun. I just know that most of the die hard trammies that spend time bashing PvP any chance they get on this forums would still dispute being attacked by players.

I'm not reacting negatively to your idea by any means, I'm just looking at it with the scrutiny most trammies will... :sad3:

I understand =) Thats why I wanted to post my idea, to hear player feedback and maybe light some matches in the dev's brains to produce something similar to this at some point. All in all I think it would be amazingly fun. There may be a few con's, but I can't really think of any that outweigh what could be accomplished by it if everyone gave it a fair shot.

So far the only pure tram players that posted are all for the idea. Maybe it wouldn't be vetoed as hard as some might think. *hopes*

I think 5 of the keys should be on one side(order) and 5 should be on the other(chaos). You can only do bene acts on your teammates. It would really stink if it was 1 vs 9 for 2 hours. Other than that it sounds fun.

    • So far you are the only one who thinks this may not work.
    • You just love to throw that word "Trammies" around like it is an insult.
    • You have no clue as to what players will and will not do with this system.
    • And now we come to the real reason you don't like this
PvP to you is all about "Show Me the Money"
    • This system is more about PvP then any system talked about with a little reward at the end that can not be taked away and IMHO you don't like it because you don't get all the goodies and looks like a more balanced PvP system. No UBBER gear so it really is all about PvP (Skill v Skill) or does that scare "Fellies" to much that a "Trammie" just may be better then them without thier UBBER gear.
Giggles I think you are on the right track so please don't let this nay sayer get to you.

Thank you =). I enjoy the possible negative feedback as well so maybe if the devs are seeing this we can all brainstorm as a community to make it happen.

I feel this would also solve the age old complaint to make power scrolls more assessable to tram players. But at the same time it would still allow the fel players their fun in fighting for them. Perhaps the boss could also random drop some high end items only attainable in tram at this time (slasher, medusa, etc.).

What I have tried to accomplish in my idea overall is remove the wall of tram vs fel by eliminating all of the common complaints from both sides, and allow both sides their guaranteed end goal. This might also stimulate more tram players overall interest in pvp to where they venture in to fel more, and begin brainstorming new templates to use during the event that they may also want to test in a more geared environment.

Ages ago I was a tram player that would jump at anything that squeaked. It wasn't until I accepted the idea to PvP, after much peer pressure from guild mates mind you, that I began to realize it wasn't so bad. Now 95% of everything I do is in fel. Sometimes it just takes that little door to open to make things happen. I hope this encounter can serve a short term and long term purpose.

I think this would be fun to do. I would do it even if there is no reward. Everything we do doesn't have to be where we end up with a reward either. Pretty soon will want a reward for bank sitting.

I was not for a second being a nay sayer first off, and the OP understood this, for proof see his recent response.

"Trammies" is not an insult, not to me at least. Check my other posts, I simply got tired of saying Tram-based players in an attempt to keep peace with the sensitive types such as yourself that feel attacked by any label.

PvP is not all about the money. I could quit doing anything for gold, and would not run out in the next 10 years. I'm not bragging by any stretch nor am I wealthy by some standards.. I simply do not require much, just wanted to clarify how wrong you truly are. You can see my other posts for more clarification such as bind on pickup items (automatically owned by *character name*) that can't be sold etc.

Again, as stated in my previous posts some of the BEST fights occur during a purpose. Noone really cares about powerscrolls anymore, so the fights are not what they once were. PvP is more intense with a goal. "Shineys" or momentary gain fuels fights, it does not define them.

As far as your attempted jab regarding my skill, you will have to try far harder to get under my skin. I'm not the best, but I can certainly hold my own. I will duel naked with regs, I don't care. If I lose, I lose.. I still enjoy the PvP. Again, I want more intense fights.

Perhaps you are far more.. sensitive or hostile then I, or maybe you just get lost not being able to properly gauge emotion and intent of text. I will give you the benefit of the doubt. At any rate, the OP understood what I meant so your opinion is moot to me. I was being constructive yet critical of his idea in a respectful way, If the right people open this post they won't be so respectful. My goal was to spark an idea to make his case more solid and improve his defenses against flamers by not being one myself. You on the other hand are simply supplying a post so common in these threads... one that guarantees a quick lock and a lost cause.
