Nice new mine open in New haven for my newly created miner to check out.....
...ohh nice, some old style Earth elems with old useless loot. cool....

    Oh what's this a rope leading down......ok i'll bite.

    OoOohHoOOoho....

I can understand the Earth elems and Lizardmen since this is a newbie Island......
....but why the hell you got 4 Ogre Lords in their??????? That's a hard kill for most kitted players let alaone newbie's in duff armour.

I'm hoping this is an error and they were ment to be Ogre's?

I haven't logged in to check it out, but the way it sounds is they are trying to promote team play in there. Most could go in there and solo an ogre or ettin, but an ogre lord sounds like they are trying to bring back the idea of cross healing dexers or something like that. The sadness though is that I don't think 2 new people a day will be trying out the dungeon; not saying people won't be taking their newly created mini's there, but people that are picking up the game for the first time or whatever go there to learn the basics of UO and what it means to x-heal or why physical resist is the diggity dank to have against something that knocks the horse piss out of you. Hopefully I'm incorrect; large guilds will leave games like World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XI and re-establish themselves in this game, with much worse graphics unstable server connections a smaller population and bugs that have existed since launch with new ones popping up from time to time that stay unanswered for years at a time; to learn the ins and outs of Ultima Online.

    Or not.

And executive producer musical chairs; the hope that cheaters and rmt will be addres.. you know. I'll quit trollololing and eat a cinnamon roll.. but until then, I hope somebody that gives a damn with the resources to do what needs to be done with the game appears and well.. does what needs to be done with the game.

Its no error. It told there were going to be OL mixed with lizzards. It worries me. Its ok if you train as "Young" But not many youngs are so rational they get into a fitting armour and jump the dungeon from day one. They run around aimlessly checking out the land, often far from Haven. Then they check people what they wear and ride etc. They quest, raise skills , and do escorts and escorts and more escorts.. buy crap armour at the forge for the gold. Then they ask where shall I fight next and friendly people will tell about this dungeon. Some people are not even young by now, as they created a crafter/ miner at first to be able to meke their own armour. Quite common they do.

In Despise everything was so perfect for new characters. Lizzards and nothing else at first level. Then Ettins that gives nice gold and are harder than lizzards but not as hard as Earth Eles. There were like two or three earthies in a corner that you could awoid till you had skills and hp enough. Then a large area with a troll here and there , and the last area with Ogres and some Lords that you could avoid as the area was large and three of the four Ogres spawned on the islend. Titans Cyclops and Acid Ele area easy to awoid as well.

No complaints about the dungeon itself, it wont be crowded so I guess its big enough. But I think it would be nice if new players or even new chars with no young status could train there. I fear that even if vets give them a nice armour they will do badly and have a hard time to regain their oh so often uninsured belongings..

To fill the "missing link " between training in Old Haven and the next normal dungeon they can train in , the spawn at first level should be the lizzards and not too many, with some ettins in the back, not too many in that small surface as new players run and drag spawn around and create a mess for themselves. Down in that hole , preferably nothing at the center but the other four spots could have one or two of each earthies trolls and normal ogres. If there has to be a lord.. I wish it was just one and with a foot chain. We are talking about players that might be clueless about how to figt. They dont have good macroes set up. They have few hitpoints. Lousy healing and anatomy skill. Low dex. An Earth Elemental last loooong. Not even IF they are lucky and get a good armour from someone they will do good in there im afraid. With good I dont mean pulling out fortunes from there, its about training. With good I mean survive a fight now and then , not running as ghost more often that being fighting. Not being discouraged and give up.

When most of us were new everything was different. Even if we got PKed from day one and started with 100gp, the land was crowded with prople that could aid , the ower land spawn was much richer, the sewers were not bad for training with entrance from guard zone. And you could team up with plenty of players on your own level. AND..there were not much competition from other games. Players now are used to test lots of games and be catered from start so to them UO might look discouraging, and before they find out how good it is they have already left.

I have raised two sons during my UO career and watched them play about everything and seen how they and their friends think. How things and atitudes have changed since they as 12 and 14 year olds got their mum hooked on UO.

I agree that ogre lords are kind of unbalanced for new players.
If there would be a room somewhere in the corner or a 3rd level holding one Ogre lord, I could see this as the end boss there.
But four of them + other critters - at least for me too much to even take a look.

I checked it out. It seems to have the same poor layout as the dungeon revamps (everything and too much of everything spawning together). It's ok to have 4 ogre lords spawn, just have them spawn in their own seperate place away with the other 3.

New players aren't going to have the best gear, the best skills nor the best know-how to defeat all this. Exisiting players making new characters will be the ones using this. They have access to decent armor, know to use the quest to achieve 50 then go down there to reach 80 wep skill before beating on ogre lords to reach 120 wep skill.

Errr seroiusly how many actual new players would even try a 15 year game .........the so called new players u will often see are simply old players making new players on ''other'' shards ready for the holiday gift swop bonanza

like for one it cant be bought in a shop
two uo as never had any sort of advertizing for 8 years trying to promote it
three.........with veteran rewards that defy belief and ones they can simply never own or use??
    four...whatever [:next:]

We get atleast a some absolutely new players every week .My guess 4-6.
Then we have free sharders that might have played for many years but even if they know things better they dont have gear or stats or skills. I think I catch 4 0r 5 every week. Often they know very little English so they dont have an easy time for sure.
Then a handful of returning players, some pre tram. They dont have their old account. Or friends.
Then we have returning players that sold or gave away their account..could be 1 or2 in average per week..but i think they are more, they just dont spend much time in Haven.
And then the normal returning players that do well to catch up on their own and just asks for a guild to join. Its a mix of players, languages and time zones,(Europa) so they will not likely find company and learn to x-heal alot.
I met a tamer with dragon when I checked out the dungeon this morning. I wasnt there long but I ressed him atleast 3 times , he was cought by an Ogre Lord when he jumped the hole ower and ower. Looked like pets were useless in there but still a new player that lost young status will get the same treatment..

perhaps; but I have a few sleeping hamsters that beg to disagree. Granted those were given out some time ago, but from time to time you'll catch the odd thread here and there about server instability. Sure every game has it, but in conjunction with some of my other complaints it's just not healthy, and yeah no game is perfect and don't get me wrong I love UO to death. I think I just have gotten tired of paying subscription and logging in from time to time to see changes that should have been happening 5 years ago get mentioned here and there, and a "revamped" dungeon here and there. So I'll venture on into another extended break and check back from time to time.

Also they should really add cinnamon rolls.

This dungeon is not well-designed for the intended purpose. Go make a newbie, get his skills up to like 60, put on some random junk armor you find as loot from skeletons or whatever, and see what a couple of earth elementals do to you. They destroy you.

    It should have been:

    * Lizardmen first. They're much easier for a new character to handle, and if someone shows them how, the new/returned player can probably sell the hides in Magincia for extra cash.

    * Then ettins. They're the slightly-competent newbie's punching bag and cash cow. (Well, pocket change cow.) There are two in the woods near the dungeon, but that isn't really enough.

    * Then earth elementals. By this point the newbie has had plenty of time to gain skills and bank insurance cash.

    * Then far out of the way some cyclopses, titans, ogre lords, and stuff like that. The things a character kills when they're not quite ready for primetime but want something tougher than ettins.

In other words, exactly like the dungeon they destroyed to add Quickly-Forgotten Dungeon Revamp Minigame #3.

So far this looks like a win in my book... nice replacement for the beginner earthies in Shame and making it a mine even goes along with the lore.. Good Job to the Devs here!

Gonna take my bard/mage lower and see how the rest looks.

My thoughts exactly. One Ogre Lord would be enough as an end boss. Four of them together is a bit much.

I really like the lizardmen on the second level. Like what, is a newbie character going to go in there and skill up on those lizardmen while being pummeled by multiple ogre lords? What is their purpose for existing? In Despise the lizardmen were on their own level where newbies and hide-collectors could focus on them.

THP you know better than someone who has welcomed new players for as long as we have been allowed to go to Haven? Every day. Who place books at the bank with road description to the new Player House and visite Haven atleast 20 times every day?

The ones I mention is the ones I talk to . I can hear even such thing as if they have watched a friend play, or if they played beta and never since. Its not hard at all if you talk and listen. And it doesnt matter. They are all welcome and the more that open or re-open and account , for a short or a longer time are welcome. I can even tell when they just walk in Haven if they have done it before.

A new player unfortunately doesnt spend their time as "(young)" effectively , they do escorts and run around and look at everything , buy and dye stuff..change skills, delete and make new char after one day. Start with a crafter.. Soon enough the young status is gone. A returning player even with new account get alot done while young. They will have some use for this new dungeon. The true new players however, will not be ready skill and armour whise, before the younghood is ower and they will not have a chance in there.

But then again for a returning player i got an all 70's resist suit and was pummled to death by 2 earth elems while trying to learn Macing. (Skills were 96 bush/95 anat/90 tact/34 Mace)(stats 125 str/75 dex/50 int) i hit 1 elem twice (which i understand do to low melee lvl but they hit me about 3 times before i had to leg it out of dungeon).
Am i in the wrong suits again now? is it all about these new damage eater and mana burst stuff now?

Hey your doing a grand job...im never doubting that...just saying there cant be 4-6 REALLY NOOB PLAYERS a week.......... or the lands would be filling with new big houses....maybe they have a house on another shard yes....in fact this is the most likely .........PLEASE REMEMBER EVERYONE IS NOW TRAINING ONE OR TWO NEW CHARS ON EVERY SHARD!!!!....SO THEY HAVE AN '' EVENT CHAR'' FOR DOING THE BLING BLING EVENTS ON ANY SHARD- WHICH IS THE EASISET WAY TO MAKE GOLD IN UO NOW.....DROPPING LUCKY WITH A EVENT DROP AND SELLING FOR MEGA BUCKS........

If they are really new i just cant understand why there are so many free 1818 and even keep spots available....hell i'll give a 1818 to any noob player that wants one....just got a feeling they already have a house back on ther home shards.....just tell them to run into malas and choose there spot....i will pay!!! for every new player!!! one a day!! 365 days a year...sorry to break the news

Why would they try to build chars up if they're just trading gifts? Make the char. Log out. Gift is sorted.

And no, not EVERYONE is making event chars. I know you advocate it, but some (I won't say most, because, like your statement, it can't be proven) people really don't care or have the time or desire to attend EM events on every shard. Most people I know on Europa don't even attend Europa EM events!

Yeah i agree, i dont go to 99% of the EM events and i am still makeing 100 million a week from doing spawn. Most of the shard will not attend and EM event unless its a big one. Gold is easy to make on your own home shard without going to all the bother of making new chacters on difrent shards just to attend an EM event.

I think this is a geat idea.

First of all, as pointed by some posters, UO is no longer as crowded as before and new players should be able to find action as close as possible from New Haven. A new dungeon next to New Haven, with appropriate spawn, serves well that purpose.

In the past, new players started in a city, but they always found someone to help them or to train with. Now UO is less crowded and it is difficult for them to find eachother, share their experience and newly acquired knowledge. Such a dungeon can help a lot, if they are redirected to that place (let's say when they finished their 50 skill training they receive a quest whose purpose is to show them the New Haven Mines).

Once there, they should find quest givers enabling them to build their skills, knowledge and equipment (like go killing 10 lizardmen and get an amor part enhanced with spined as reward as they will need a good phys resist for the rest of the dungeon, ...)

I addressed both your posts in the one you just quoted THP. I just didn't quote the second one. But arguments about new players, or the lack of them, isn't what the topic is about.

The mine itself is good, a nice replacement for old despise. I went to have a look around earlier, it's where I saw one of the three youngs actually.

maybe...gold as always been easy to make.....lol...... but they do....theres many event collectors making new chars on all shards and spending a lil gold on them to gm them quick and get a 70s suit....FOR INSTANCE .on a europa em event night and 60 people turn up im guessing 75% would be from another home shard.....with pretty good chars too...lets be honest u can GM a char with a little xsharded gold and sots/alacrity scrolls in maybe a week tops

This thread is quickly filling up with fail and I feared you would not get a response. The weapon skill is determining whether you get hit as well as whether you hit the earth elementals. At 34 macing, I think you're at the very low end of the spectrum where they are almost guaranteed to hit you and you have a very low chance to hit them. This is where the new haven advanced macing to 50 would help. I assume lizardmen are the right target afterwards. You can find these in Fel despise for easy training. Alternately, there are some in Ilsh...but you have to worry about paragons.

The mine is great...most young players will buy to 40 skill level from the npcs .....if they dont they should!!!...very cheap toooo....and guessing the mine is great for training skills to +50..[end].

Do Cove lvl 3 for an hour or so untill you get an artie drop the sheild and glasses sell for 10 mill each. Then go do Despise the ring sells for 10 mill and the quivers start at 20 mill each.

I have gotten 1 quiver a day from despise for the last 3-4 weeks ,some times more.

    I can disprove this.

There are 4 different people in my house using three different accounts. All our chars are on Catskill. We have never attended one of the events and have no intention of creating chars on other shards to attend the events or get the holiday goodies.

As far as the new Haven mines go I haven't had a chance to check them out myself as the connection where I currently am is kind of poor and restricts me to training skills at my house. Once I do get home I fully intend to check out the new mine and will help any new player I see explore them if they wish.

    Totally agree,

I just watched a new player enter this dungeon to be totally creamed by the three earth eles that ganked him as he entered. After giving him a rez and killing off the spawn he was having major difficulty with just ONE ele. He said he had done all his skills up to 50 or over in new haven but that it was pretty obvious he wasn't ready for earth eles. His words "i didn't think they would hit so hard".

Having talked to two new players, today, asking for help in what to do I was really hard pushed to think of somewhere to tell them to go after new haven.

This dungeon is a much wasted opportunity to actually provide a great training venue for newer players, or for that matter even vets training up new chars. While I am not fussed on just recreating another despise, there are lots of creatures removed from the already revamped dungeons that could have been used to create a new 'newbie' dungeon. Corpsers, harpies, horde minions, lizards, ettins, spiders, moving up to the titians, ogrelords, cyclops, gazers and elder gazers.

I was totally disappointed in this dungeon. One circut with earth ele's in it, and a totally useless middle bit for new players with lizards and ogrelords that is only useful if they have a vet with em.

    Sad.

It seems the Earth Elems in New Haven Dungeon are the 'new' ones that are are found in Shame (ie harder more powerfull) but with the old Earth Elem loot.
    Double pointless for Newbie players.
After spending alot of time Gaining macing over the last week i can now say that i was only able to hold my own in the new dungeon (1st lvl only) once my char had hit 90 Mace.

Yes as you can all see straight away if you can only use this new place from skill 90+ then why the heck would i still be in New Haven then?????
The only thing i can see this place being helpfull to is a new player that has bought a Mythic skill Token straight away (ie tries to skip learning HOW to play the game in favour of crying cos he not got the latest artifacts like Vet players have)

Oh i should also point out that Lvl 2 is purely camped now by Tamers training their Drags up so again pointless to a Newbie player.

Good report Slayvite! As soon as I heard this dungeon was coming I felt it would be too hard to be a replacement for Despise. Im glad it isnt just me that are concerned and see this and try it out. As long as you have the young tag you dont get ganked bafore you attack something but even one earth ele is too hard for a new character . After Old Haven training you need lizzards and ettins before its time for earthies. Even an experiensed player with new character have a hard time as stated above. A new player spend alot of time looking around, recreate first char, doing escorts and quests, checking vendors, selling junk .. Before its time to hit a dungeon at all, the young tag is gone. New player, new char, and not the best equipment.. sorry but it doesnt work in the newbe dungeon. Please let the lizzards be alone at first level , better not too many but not too slow spawning. The ettins and max two earthies at bottom level.

This is one of those changes that just makes you despair because it makes it really obvious that the people designing it have no idea how people actually play the game.

"You can go right from one zombie at a time to multiple earth elementals, right, right?"

"Newbies used to farm lizardmen? Okay I will put some next to these four ogre lords."

I don't know where to tell the returning player on a new account with like 50 in his skills to go.

No. Anyone attempting to do anything in the mine with skills at 40 would be grusomely killed almost instantly. But thank you for your "guess".

Also, people making characters on other shards to do EM events is A) a minority interest and B) has been going on for ages. I have no idea why you've decided in the last week or so that this is a brand new thing that everyone is doing.
