With me training and talking about Chivalry from levels 85-120 being seemingly pointless i started thinking about spells/moves that could be added without unbalancing things.

    How about:- Un-holy bane spells.

Level 100 - Cast Undead slayer upon yourself:- gives you the effects of having an undead slayer without having to hold (weapon/book/talisman)

Level 110 - Cast Demon slayer upon yourself:- same as above but for Demon.

I dont think these would unbalance things much as you would have to actually have points in Chivalry to get them, the bonus would come with not having to use a slayer weapon or such.

Was thinking along these lines as a Paladin is ment to be a Holy warrior but their are no actual benefits over the un-holy in Chivalry to my knowledge.
Even Holy light gives energy damage that dont really hurt any undead apart from Demons, but no where enough to waste the cast time on.

Just something to make it worth the time and effort of getting to Lvl 120 would be great.

On the flipside, you could make the now usless Exorcisum spell into a repond slayer? Not PvP, but then again everyone that pvp's has necro these days anyway dont they? :)

Just a thought to mull over?

I have little opinion about your last couple of questions, but in short...no. I think the spells would make chivalry too powerful of a skill. Having the ability to cast undead AND demon slayer upon yourself would make Doom and like creatures...a joke.

I think in all reality on the what do you think chivalry needs right now thread...there are some o.k. suggestions there. I would like to see a few more spells down the road for chivalry (I'm not sure what personally), but nothing that nixes a whole class of creatures.

I like the general undead and daemon slayer ideas, more useful than Enemy of One in most practical situations.

I think Holy Light should scale in damage according to skill level as well as karma, perhaps capping out at pre-nerf levels for pvm.

I'd like to see Holy Light as targeted also. Casting then targeting yourself does the usual area effect, whereas targeting a mob directs a single downward shaft of light onto the target and does concentrated damage. I think it should be the "big" pvm spell for Paladins, something like Armageddon or Word of Death.

Maybe a lower mana cost (only) for Chivalry spells the higher your natural skill? Something mild, say 1% for every 20 points.

But it's still fairly balanced. Most people use demon slayer weapons anyway. Especially when imbuing comes. And you need like, 40 points more than most people use now.

Those are some nice ideas I hadn't necessarily thought of. A lower LMC benefit would be attractive and I guess I would agree it would be somewhat balanced by having to have the 120 to get the full effect Ender.

Those are some nice ideas with holy light as well. I agree that it should have a targeting effect as well. Other games for Paladin have targeting effect spells. UO can still be unique by having a targeting spell AND not succumb to mimicking another games idea.

  6. I personally would like to see mass close wounds, mass cleanse by fire, and mass remove curse spell added to the paladin spell book...and one more thing at maybe 120 Chivalry skill....a silver steed that would be a ridable summon.

I am very supportive of more high level chiv spells.

I think it can do with a form changing spell at 90 skill (angelic version of lich form or the sort that cannot be mounted, but not vamp form) and a summoning spell at 80 skill (angelic version of summoned elementals).

That should balance it a bit compared to the other casting skills since they all have some form of form changing and summoning skills.

And maybe scale EoO with points in chiv. Ie 80 chiv gives only 80% more damage. GM gives 100% more (like what it does now). 120 gives 120% damage.

Scaling holy light similarly is a good idea too, but needs a bit more care and should definitely be tied to karma as well. Or it will become the next wither at chokepoints. At least if it is tied to karma, it gets progressively weaker the more it is used to wantonly kill innocents.

However, I think undead slayer and daemon slayers might be a bit over the top. Slayers for now should remain in the province of items imho.

Besides, warriors consistently outdamage all other templates nowadays. Further specializing it into an uber damage dealer will widen the gap btwn other templates. And I am already thinking of using an elemental slayer weapon on DF, then stacking the daemon slayer spell on top...

  8. BAAHHH... these aren't bad ideas, kinda like them... but if anyone gets new spells it should be BARDS!

Sure you can have some spells, When you start using mana for playing your instrument. :p

  10. Yes... that is a good idea. And I want an instrument mod property for LMC, and LRC to also apply to my firehorn. Anything else you want?

Actually, I don't mind, it's a good way to balance expanded powers.

Alternatively, would suggesting that the 4 skills be somehow merged into 2 be too greedy? :p

Ya I like the Ideal that Holy light would work like the does for area effect. Off the uber spell types I think a Pally should of least been able to create food and night site. There are some lesser spells that would fit and be helpful. Bless comes to mind also, It does have the skill level strength effect.

I like what you and the OP have said so far. Paladins are supposed to be the bane of undead and demons so why not give them the abilities oO.

My own twist on it though.

At 120 Paladins get a new spell "Angelic Embrace", They grow wings WOot lol. But to boot they have a passive Demon slaying and Undead Slaying while in Angelic form.
While in Angelic Form though there should be a penalty, since Vamp form, Wraith form etc have there penalties give it something similar to Lich form but for mana instead. While in Angelic form your Mana is constantly drained. When it reaches 0 you revert back.
