Newbie Siege question

I'm not new to UO but haven't really played Siege and have 3 easy questions:

Are all skills that are available on other shards available here? Ie: Bushido, Imbueing, etc.

Are all the land masses that are available on other shards available here?

For a started new Siege player what is the best way to make money and generally advance?

All skills are here, all land masses are here except trammel. All land masses have fel rulesets. All dungeons have fel rule sets.

Join NEW off the start, and work your skills. A big market is imbue resources. So if you can work some level 1 spawns in the Abyss, that would help. Resource gathering will sell, like leather etc.

Two minor things that tend to not be mentioned but come as a surprise to newcomers.
    1. The woods are full of dark wisps - they're not at all nice
    2. All tools wear out, and if you use a sword on a corpse it becomes a 'tool'. You can lose a darn good weapon that way if you're not careful.

    Thank you guys.

My only hesitation is population and dispersion. I'm all about community yet if the overall population is low anyway and due to many land masses everybody is spread out will there be a decent level of player interaction?

This also stems from threads I've seen in UO Hall or elsewhere recently discussing 'nobody on Siege..' or the like.

If you join NEW, you will most likely have people to work with.

If no luck there, use the ingame chat system, someone will allmost allways answer anyways.

If you decide you like Siege, there are still a few active guilds that do hunts, that are allways willing to give people a chance. Just learn whom will take advantage, and whom will help.

Good luck to you, I hope you find this to be an interesting place.

If you feel you like Siege, stick around. Be one of the folks that make the population grow again. Unfortunately it´s kind of a Catch 22. Not many stay cuz of the low poulation and it´s a low population cuz not many stay, heh.

However, people are out there although not always in the places you might think they hang so therefore it might seem as there´s not many on.

But NEW might be a good start to get introduced to the way of Siege and maybe make some player connections.

    Welcome to Siege! :thumbup1:

You can do escorts and gain compassion at the same time. There is a gate to Serpents Hold next to the counslers guild in Brit. Its also an entrance to the new lands (t2a) from Fire dungeon there.

with you here the population is one higher than it was before you arrived :).

It is my hope that some of those who were holding out for a classic shard will return/try here instead.

Yes, we're a bit thin on the ground at the moment, but I've never yet put out a 'hello' on general chat and not gotten a response. With that I can be part of a group even when I'm far out to sea, fishing.

"You can do escorts and gain compassion at the same time. There is a gate to Serpents Hold next to the counslers guild in Brit."

One can make some good bucks doing this - I think you can get a new escort every five minutes or so and it's worth 500gp. If you can tie the escort into a place where there's easily killable spawn like the Jhelom cemetary its a plus. Water els and sea serpents hang at the Moonglow docks. I'm speaking of escorting via gate.

As Puddy Mae mentioned, the dark wisps will hate you and they hang all over Serpents Hold. If you can kill them its worth about 450gp plus loot. In Serpents Hold the giants serpents also yield good gp plus spined leather. Alligators yield spine. Good hunting and good luck on Siege.

Other stuff useful to know - folks don't hang much at Luna. But there are active vendors at the Yew moongate and Zento, and more scattered hither and yon. Also, if you need something but cannot find it on a vendor, shout out in general chat and someone will likely sell you what you need.

Getting gold can be a bit of a challenge in the beginning, but since there is no insurance here, your gold will pile up after a while. Many Siegers are rolling in the stuff - unless they are using it to buy saltpeter. ;)

And make certain you use your "Siege bless" option for whatever cool item you wish to use it on - you can switch what is blessed at any time. Many bless their weapon unless there is something else you end up with which is 'irreplaceable.'

Otherwise, everything said by others above. Since many folks stealth, there is often many more folks on than you might guess. You'll be in a town and get the 'you move through something invisible' message. Some folks will say 'Hello hidden person.'

Thanks to general chat, you can see who tends to play when you do. Many people will announce when they first come on in general chat - a "Hello Siege" type of greeting. Not something you would do on any other shard, but here, it's fairly common.

Take the shard for the challenge it is and enjoy yourself. Try to give it at least a month before you decide if Siege is "for you" or not. You will find that many people here will help you - even many "reds." If you run into someone Red, don't automatically run from them - especially when you are new. Talk to them. You might be surprised at the help they will give. Of course, if they kill you, then you know to run the next time you see that particular red. But as the saying goes on Siege, "Not all reds are bad. Not all blues are good." :)

Id like to point out that even tho some guilds/people have horrible reps they tend to stick up for members of thier own guild. So pick a guild thats based more on your playstyle. there are still pvp guilds and pvm guilds. Thats what intrigued me about siege in the first place. Most guilds here may bicker over the boards but in game, behind the curtains they help each other. Siege is and always be strived upon the community. We enrich our shards history. New people just add to that history.

Im sorry i have been away a while. Im having real life issues, work, college, sick kid, i will return when i can. Miss you all and dont let mesanna shut siege down till after i get back. Also if for some reason my homes start to decay please post here so i know. Thank you..

She has a castle in the Trinsic Swamp and a keep not far from the Brit swamp on the sw side on the road. Not sure if she has any others.
