This week I get the immense satisfaction of answering a couple of very old questions, plus check out some new Town Hall dates and an awesome player-run event!</p>

"What does the "You have too many pets guarding you" message mean, and how do I fix it?" </p>

Each character is only allowed to have 6 pets guarding it - this has always been true, but the latest publish introduced a message that actually tells you when you try to exceed that limit, instead of just failing to set the pet to "guard" mode. Pets set to "guard" that are stabled still count towards this limit, so if you receive this message, the way to resolve it is to pull your pets out of the stable and tell them to "stop," which will take them out of guard mode and let you select a new guard dog, or cat, or pony, or... whatever.</p>

"When are you going to do something about all the trial accounts that monopolize the good housing spots?"</p>

This is an extremely common complaint, and a valid one. The fix is not trivial, but we think it's worth it - as of the next publish, characters that are less than 15 days old will not be able to place or trade houses. This means that 14-day trial accounts will not be able to place or trade houses (as there's no way for the character to be older than the account,) and it should level the playing field a bit for our paying customers. </p>

"Why did my Paroxymus Swamp Dragon disappear?"</p>

This is another one that we've been getting bug reports on, and we finally tracked down the source. While we can't replace swampies that have been lost, we are fixing the root cause of the disappearance and they should be much more reliable after the next publish.</p>

"What ever happened to the water barrel fix?"</p>

Some of you remember that, about 18 months ago, a fix was put up on Test Center where water barrels and field spells would no longer block house placement. While this made some people very happy, the point was raised that placing water barrels and casting field spells was the only way to prevent people using illegal third-party programs from placing a house on the spot before anyone else could attempt it, or grab any IDOC loot. We pulled the fix in preperation for a more complete package of fixes that would address the underlying problem, and, now that we've got that all lined up, the water barrel fix will be introduced at the same time.</p>

    Playguide Updates:</p>

Just a few this week:</p> <a target="_blank" href=http://guide.uo.com/virtues_3.html> Compassion </A> - removed the line about Haven escorts not raising Compassion.
<a target="_blank" href=http://guide.uo.com/itemproperties_2.html>Material Properties</A>-clarified the factors involved in enhancement success chance.
<a target="_blank" href=http://guide.uo.com/skill_35.html>Animal Taming</A>- added the skill loss percentage when a creature is paralyzed while being tamed.
<a target="_blank" href=http://guide.uo.com/factions_11.html>Faction-Controlled Towns</A>- corrected various of the timers involved in capturing a town.

    What's To Come:</p>

The next publish, as hinted at above, is just about ready for its debut - look for it on TC early in the week, Origin later in the week, and, barring disaster, all shards after a nice uneventful weekend on Origin. The next publish also contains some awesome event stuff, which Origin will be the first to see later in the week, including some ways to for all you obsessive hoarders get your lockdown counts down :p</p>

    Town Hall News:</p>

The next Town Hall is in Rockville, Maryland - if you haven't <a target="_blank" href=http://www.mythicentertainment.com/uo/>RSVP'd</A>, please do so! (A reminder - the RSVP isn't mandatory, and you won't get a confirmation or anything, but it's extremely helpful to us when trying to figure out how much food/swag/etc to order!)</p>

Got a couple of new confirmed dates, too - the San Diego Town Hall will be Saturday, July 26 and the Chicago Town Hall will be Saturday, October 18th - for the full scoop, visit the <a target="_blank" href=http://town.uo.com/luncheon.html> Town Hall Page </A>. Can't wait!</p>

Like I posted in the other thread...it takes time to do all the HTML coding before I can post it. I saw it probably before any of you BUT it takes me a bit longer to get it posted.

So nothing new pertaining to the event on non-origin shards for two more weekends (including this one) - am I reading it right?

Ok this takes care of the next wave of trial accounts once this goes in, what about all the current trial accounts holding houses on all shards? Except siege/mugen of course.

Why not just tell us what is going to go in? Your going to test it, great work out any/many off the bugs, fingers crossed. But anyone that wants too, will know what is going on, once it hits tc and then origin, spoilers are always posted. Why continue to play these shell games with the community? Are all the previous stated turn ins going in at once? Or are you going to staggered them in?

Can you guys do this for Fel? Restrict chars under 15 days old from entering Fel T2A or Felucca Anti-Virtue Dungeons. This would SIGNIFICANTLY lower the amount of Scripted Spy Cams and Scripted Ghost Cams in Fel Champ Spawns. Trial Accounts would still be able to enter Fel and see PvP at places other than the dungeons/T2A, such as Yew Gate. Or could just bar chars under 15 Days Old from entering Felucca at all.

Can you tell us anything about the new event?

We have boxes full of shields and threads.. but we really don't know if it is worth keeping and if it is how much is enough or even what will be turned in.

It is nearly a given the threads/sword/shield will be turn in, but how about the robe and berserker artie?

What about these papers that no one has been able to find?

Past 14 days they are no longer trial accounts so if they already have a house on a trial account then they will be left with either paying for the monthly fee to keep the house up or selling the house or letting it collapse. That is the way I see it.

This is a very lazy fix to the problem. It should not be Char based, rather it should be account based. If I create a new char on a vet account why shouldn't that char be able to place? There will be many situations where this rule will be a hinderence to decent honest players.

With regards to the water barrel fix I'd like to raise an interesting question about something that's currently unknown unless you actually own the rental vendor in an OSI-owned house.

If a house enters the OSI-owned state, and there are rental vendors in it, there is currently no way to tell when that house will decay, it's a guessing game. Can we please have the ability to either view the rental vendors expiry date on the vendor's context menu option or on it's Character's Profile scroll?

I see no reason why players should be forced to guess at when an OSI-owned rental contract should expire, and I'd like it very much if we could rest easy and turn up when we know that all vendor contracts will expire, so that the competition for placing a new house in an OSI-owned spot can begin.

If you can do it by the next publish, great! If not, well, hopefully you can put it into a future publish, but I'd very much like to see it lined up with the fixes for the water barrels.

Also, if the fixes for bugged OSI-owned houses with or without vendors, that keep cycling forever, can be lined up for the next publish, or one after it, that'd be good!

I'm currently watching an OSI with vendors in it, and I can tell you it is not fun having to listen to everyone else's theories as to when the vendors *might* expire! I'd like some solid, verifiable, info, please!

    Cheers ...

  21. Yes Warsong, Thank you! I was thinking the same thing as I finished reading the new FOF. Still no mention of the cocoa trees that were put off once already. It can't possibly hurt to let us know if they are coming this time or being pushed to the side again.

As for the rest..the guarding message about pets was already covered when the pet commands were fixed.

I am kind of in the middle on the housing issue. I like the fix but also think it should maybe be account based not character..should still be an improvement though. I LOVE the idea of not allowing new account/players into champ areas/dungeons please devs listen to that one. [IMG]

Still will have the "rest" of the housing system intact (re-dropping/placing/re-placing ... ie timers)

    BTW
    Housing fix = not trivial?

Cant get more trivial than "if !(accountAge &lt; 15 days)"

TBH that isnt the biggest issue I reckon, or the best fix. How about if account != credit card info or if creditcardInfo already exists, make manual refresh necessary (IE once every few days). Im still going to exploit all my 30 day codes to keep a house going, even if it does mean I get 2 weeks less. And I still get to keep my houses that have gone waaaaaay beyong 90 days.

At the end of the days there are housing spots EVERYWHERE. Why this was deemed a big issue I don't know. This penalises new players, the very people who I help to place a 7*7 when they haven't played long. Or what about deciding to change shard and making a new character. Im an 8 year vet and I cant place a house!

I think if someone has bought a code, they should be allowed to place a house. Surely you can just check that the account type is not a 14 day one. I would really like to hear a response, just to this last bit. You can check to see if the account has AOS registered to it, ML, SE, you can check account age. You even block the account after the trial period is up. So why can you not just say that, for the free 14 day trial accounts, housing cannot be placed instead of saying that all characters ages 15 days can't?

I wanted to highlight this paragraph. It would seem to me bye the verbiage being used are the devs actually implying they have a fix set up for house scripters? I read and reread this and I guesse it could be wishful thinking but god how sweet would it be if it was a script fix (and a nice in you're face for me personally to all my idoc competitors that scream scripter at me when my guild still thrives at same rate if it is a script fix). I guesse we will have to wait and see since the devs wont admit it if it is the case.

I would have rather stated that the 14 day trial accounts can not place, then to limit the ablility of all accounts to place and recieve houses. When I have done scavenger hunts in the past I have created a new char on an account to hold the house so that the owner of the house would match the event title. I was visiting Atlantic during the last rares festivals on an vet account that did not own a house I placed a small house on a newly created char (that account had not chars on atl before) to allow for a bit of storage for gold in items beyond what my bank could hold. Making this rule char based, limits all accounts not just the trial accounts. What if I want to own another house, why should I not be able to buy a new 30 days code and hold the house, that 30 day account has been paid for and should be afforded all the game has to offer.

This change does not limit free trial accounts it limits all accounts.

NewThunder, this is the *exact* reason I am questioning this too.

Surely if you can check the account and character info, you can check if the account is a 14 day account or not, rather than the character's age.

Is there a problem with changing it to this way instead? If there is then fair enough, otherwise it seems a more logical fix...

I agree it should go by the account and credit card rather than age of the character.
Sometimes we do special stuff on Thelostlands.com that requires us to place small house on a shard (we take it down promptly after our event).
Also who here wouldn't be willing to open a new account for that dream house.

[/ QUOTE ]This was the bigiest problem, new trial accounts holding all the houses, on gls one guy holds as many as many 80+ max spots at a time using the free trial accounts.

If it is easier for them to fix this by making it character based thats fine with me. Nothing is stopping you from creating a character on every shard.

Most guys I know who continually place at idocs have a paid account or 2 already dedicated specifically for placing so they can put the loot inside easy and sell the lot after.
So it may affect some of the ‘cheaper’ idocers but wont stop all of them. Maybe it’s a way for them to sell more accounts since more idocers will now have to have one older than 14 days to place lots.

The only thing slowing them down right now are water barrels so id like to see what the other fixes for this will be once the water barrel fix is put back in.

"What does the "You have too many pets guarding you" message mean, and how do I fix it?"

Why do tamers have to deal with this guarding thing, anyway? It seems so pointless a change. Can we get clarification on why this change was made in the first place? Also, need to put a quotation inside a quotation with ' ' !!! [IMG] hehehe.

"When are you going to do something about all the trial accounts that monopolize the good housing spots?"

15 days is a good change. Someone raised the question, why can't a new player on an old account get a placement. Well, some people keep accounts and do nothing but place. I propose 30 days, because that's the cut off for all of the rewards we get, and maybe stricter placement rules (like once every month, or something, per an account). However, IFF EA makes it so when a house falls, no one can place for 15 minutes, then everything else will make more sense.

Animal Taming- added the skill loss percentage when a creature is paralyzed while being tamed.

When a dragon does firebreath, it is "paralyzed." Or, when you try to paralyze a dragon while it is doing firebreath, or use a para special, you get the message: already paralyzed. If you succeed a tame while a dragon is in firebreath mode, do you get this loss?

OK i'm not trying to start anything but i'm really starting to think that they answer questions that are asked by few (if any) just so they can avoid answering some questions that many are looking for answers on.

Edit in: How do you submit questions again?

In answer to the problem with pets still being in guard mode when stabled..

Would it not just be easier and simpler to just make them automaticly unguarded when stabled? Im sure that this would be so much easier to do. [IMG]
    Just a thought!

So a "Character" that is not 15 Days Old...meaning the actual character vice the account? Like when you instantly get 6 Month Stat bump, the 2nd time you log in a character. Lol.

    "...paying customers"

14 Day "TRIAL" Accounts are a good step, but you need to GANK Housing Placement/Trading on all "TRIAL" Accounts...including the 30 Day ML New Account Codes (thousands of these floating about) and the 45 Day SE New Account Codes (probably less, but still out there).

Just saying, you are trying which is good, but execution is lacking...I guess someone that bought 5 copies of SE to Get The Limited Time, never to be offered again Soulstones...has 5 - 45 Day chances to skirt your fix.

    Peace.

a bunch of nice fixes going in. Thank god I hope water barrels are finally out of the way.

I also agree with Thunder, should be account based not character based. No reason a 8 year vet who happens to create a new character should be banned from placing.

But its good to see that they want to eliminate the people who just use their free trials to place, sell, and loot idoc housing without paying for the game one bit.

Well, I don´t think abusing free trial accounts that are meant for new players are the same as using account codes that U actually paid money for...

Ok this takes care of the next wave of trial accounts once this goes in, what about all the current trial accounts holding houses on all shards? Except siege/mugen of course.

What do you mean with "Except siege/mugen of course"

It sure is a problem on Siege too, I would love to see houses hold of trial accounts and houses only paid 3 times a year go away.

    Why the paid houses?

Perhaps the owners are just not able to play due to RL responsibilities. The first example that comes to mind are our military servicemen and women. These homeowners should be able to rest assured that their houses are safe as long as the account is paid for, regardless of log-ins.

I would guess that 'can't place' will mean 'can't transfer' either?

If so, anyone who only activates an account to prevent a house from falling will need to be very careful with their timing, I think quite a few of them use trial accounts if the house gets too far into the decay cycle at the moment.

Aye, you'd need to be very careful if you used a 30 day code to preserve a house. But probably much safer to just have a suitable account closed and spare if you planned to do it regularly. I don't anymore, but when I had someone in town wanting to move out, I'd just re-activate an account till I got a new owner.

I like the change. There's a few games which don't allow a trial player to place houses and a real newbie is going to need 15 days at least to save up for a house anyway.

Interesting to see what the anti cheat measures will be on house placement too. Fingers crossed they work heh.

I like it too, but then none of our 3 accounts have ever been closed for more than a week since we started them. When we started it took about 6 months of living in the inn to save enough to buy even a small house, placing wasn't an option. I've often wondered if those starting now get too much too soon.

Aye, took me months before I even thought about a house. In fact I had no idea about stabling pets for a good few weeks, let alone finding a new home [IMG]

I still remember thinking I'd get someone to buy a few hinds I'd tamed...

I was telling my wife that this will make a NEW issue on any new shard that is added in the future. This will make ALL chars made 1 day old thus allowing for 15 days before ANY house could be placed on the shard.. I think I LIKE that ..

This is a very lazy fix to the problem. It should not be Char based, rather it should be account based. If I create a new char on a vet account why shouldn't that char be able to place? There will be many situations where this rule will be a hinderence to decent honest players.

How is this going to work with the accounts that just get reactivated during the "come back and try us for a week" promotions that we see about every year or so.

Are they going to ban house placement during those weeks, and if not, will they finally get around to cause housed to collapse when the account is not active, no matter who the co-owner is?

Until (IF) we get clarification, I'm assuming it means any codes. This is a very poor solution to the 14-day trial accounts. This should apply ONLY to those codes.

What about the 45 day trial codes I have? I have a whole stack of those, and the ones I have used in the past DID get 45 days worth of game play.
