Have any specifics about the stronger 5 slot dragons been posted somewhere? How much better are they? Do they look different? Can they be identified visually, do they have a new name, or are they only identifiable by using lore on them?

I clearly see few more items in list:

    # Fixxed an exploit where Champ Spawns can be guardwhacked
    # Fixed an issue where the Damage Increase property on runic-crafted weapons was occasionally being dropped

Errr ... did Jeremy just do a copy/paste? Because didn't they decide to remove the Strangle change? And aren't the minimum intesities for Valorite hammers supposed to be 75%, not 85% (assumed that to be a typo the first time round ...)

Thanks for the quick reply JC.

Wow... They couldn't even re-hue the dragon models to give us new colors for strong ones? They re-hue everything known to (Sosarian) man but don't include any sort of visual indicator for this?

    Wow...

Thats crazy that they are letting runics go out at 100% across the board. Numerous folks have said this is too much bump - but EA hasn't listened.

I even had a PM from Wilki before he left saying they should get toned down and he'd speak to Leurocian.

Oh well, get ready for uber armor and uber weapons to hit your shards.

If I was holding a decent weapon - I'd sell it pronto. Its going to drop to worthless once this hits regular shards.

Good maybe this combined with the doom changes will lead to them changing the durability or insurance policy , make our game less item based ( short term it would make it ALOT more)..

Although I do agree , some of the lower end items aer pretty big pushes..

  20. "but EA hasn't listened."

Sure they did. Just not to the few that disagreed with the way it's being implemented. Personally, I think it's great. Now EVERYONE will have a chance at crafting something good, and not just those with multitudes of crafting accounts. They've made a lot of the monsters stronger, it only makes sense to make the players a little stronger also, and not to the benefit of only a few.

Thanks EA for listening to those of us that LIKE the changes and have been looking forward to it for months.

It's on Origin, you know, the guinea pig shard of UO. Nothing is set in stone yet.

Honestly though, I work Bods myself and don't see that big a deal with it. Sure, 5 seconds would be faster, but it's only 5 seconds difference.

I timed my normal BOD turnin and I was averaging 1 every 12 seconds. But that's doing this:

    1. Drop a filled BOD out of Bod Book 1.
    2. Drop the fillled BOD on the NPC Smith/Tailor
    3. Drop the reward on the NPC. Smith/Tailor to get rid of it.
    4. Request and accept a new BOD.
    5. Drop the new BOD on Bod Book 2.

I also open a Buy window with the smith/tailor every 4th or 5th BOD to keep him/her from moving (they won't move for about 40 seconds after you try to buy or sell with them).

    That's no problem there.

But when I just want to drop a few loose BODs on an NPC, I only take 5 or 6 seconds (I can skip step 1, 3, and 5). Now that will be a minor annoyance.

    ORly?

Crafting 62 resist Stamina 8 items from spined kits is a good idea? Thats what Larisa crafted (well, if she would have had arms lore - it was only 57 but still).

    Again - runic changes good.
Intensity levels bad. You should NOT be able to make 100% mods at measly spined kits that come from cloth 20 normal bods.

Why not go with a scaled down version? You could see how that goes and bump if needed. By going 100% across the board - once this hits your shard the dmg is done.

Thousands of weapons/items will be cranked out in the first day.

They can drop it later, but the dmg will be done.

This is a bad bad bad idea.

  29. "You should NOT be able to make 100% mods at measly spined kits that come from cloth 20 normal bods."

Why? You haven't given a single reason why it's NOT good for everyone to be able to craft and/or own decent armor. I've seen I don't know how many posts over the past few years complaining about how long it takes to be able to find all of the pieces to make a good suit for either PvM or PvP. Also regular posts from players that said they would try PvP but there's no way they could stand a chance to compete because they don't have the gear. Now with the Doom changes and the crafting changes this will no longer be the case.

The only people I see this affecting are those selling those 61 resist sleeves with 1 mod at 80% for 5mil, and heaven forbid it have 2 mods at 80% or more, then you're looking at 8-15mil depending on resists and what mods. THAT'S what's insane. It shouldn't take a player just entering the game years to come up with a good suit that allows them to be able to be successful with the end game of UO, whether that be high end PvM or the PvP arena.

Give me a GOOD reason. So far I haven't seen any reason at all.

    AMEN, Connor.

I've seen pieces I've crafted (or enhanced), that I personally wouldn't pay 10k for (and sell on my vendor for 1-3k) sell later with a 10,000% to 100,000% markup in Luna (or pieces similar in attributes).

Let's see someone make the same argument for a DC Hammer.

The truth is, that 1 property and 61 (15+12+6+5+15*) resists is hardly earth-shattering. I get pieces like that (if they survive enhancing) out of about 10% of SOS chests, and better pieces (49 resists before enhancement) people routinely leave behind in corpses in Doom. For that matter, I still occasionally get 2-max-property items off mid-range monsters (while wearing luck under 400), that I can't move on my vendors at obscenely low prices. The random number generator is a fickle mistress - I once got 86 luck bone arms with another property of a NORMAL mongbat that wandered into my house (when I lived by Moonglow Cemetary) 4 years ago, and a crafter killed it auto-defending!

The only "high-end" market I see for spined runic crafted kits will be SPINED suits, trying for luck suits. In a weird sort of way, this change will bring back (for tailor kits, at least) the concept of a runic being best used on its matching material (though horned and barbed kits will probably see equal use of all 3 types of leather).

Heck, Barbed leather might even go out of style, given how hard Destard's about to be for people like me who are as likely to use their tailor to gather leather and craft on the run, since BoS are no longer an option. Horned leather, being easier to get, will probably start dominating non-luck items made by those not buying from leather farmers.

Hmm, that's kinda like spending months to put together a pyrotechnics show, only to set it off during the day (and it lasts 15 minutes). By doing events this way you ensure that a) over half of the UO population can't participate, and b) the ones that do participate are likely not regular players of the shard the event is being held at that time. But I guess some live content is good, meagre that it is.

And I'll close with my usual clarion call to fix the town criers and the Ricardo wanted posters [though maybe with the posters you can preface the text with "you see a poster, probably old, with faded lettering reading..."].

I understand the "it's not fair I am a have not and others are haves" argument but honestly why is it a GOOD reason for these changes? I imediately got an impression Wilki was doing his best Evita when he anounced these changes. I pictured him on a train tossing loaves of bread at the masses:

Don't cry for me UO play~ers...
In some ways I'll ne~ver leave you...

I know Wilki did alot in other areas of the game but in crafting he fell flat on his face. Mining/lumberjacking is borked, 10 second timers on BODs, and now crafting is LIKE monster loot. An un thought out hodge podge of nerfs and overcompensations. If this would have been his only legacy I doubt his goodbye UO post would have stayed on page one more than a day or so.

Well this does absolutely nothing to make Crafting a viable playstyle. That was my good reason NOT to waste the time on this. But since it has been wasted oh well. Many will have fun with it as it is the flavor of the month. But then it will die off and little will have changed. A few "looky what I made" posts peppered throughout the Hall with folks that never use the system replying what a godsend it was. I would be suprised if any permanent shops made it past a month as the righteous just don't have it in them to pull it off.

    So...
Give me a GOOD reason. So far I haven't seen any reason at all.

  39. Flooding the market with good affordable player made items is what the game has been crying out for, I hope doing this is the prelude to making items degrade overtime and eventually break so crafters continue to be in business for a long time.

I've only been back in a game for a couple of weeks, and this publish is looking good so far and KR has improved alot also, nice to see things moving forward.

UO is an item-based game. Items are necessary in an item-based game. They should be easy to come by.

Now if you wanted a reason you wanted to hear you are in the wrong forum.

  41. "why is it a GOOD reason for these changes?"

How about players that have been working the Bod system for years and never even seeing a single Valorite Bod since the system was first put in?

Or how about new players entering the game, then finding out that the only way for the them to have a decent chance in PvP is to amass millions almost immediately so they can afford to buy the pieces needed to make a suit that would give them a chance?

These same new players find out that they either have to cheat or pay RL money to obtain this gold, and not wanting to do either, simply give up on UO and go play something else.

How about putting a major hole in the scripter's operations, so players are no longer having to buy runics from them, but can get their own? Enough loss of revenue and it no longer becomes a profitable enough an environment for runic scripting.

There's just a few for ya.

I still haven't seen any that say the changes aren't for the betterment of the game.

If that is your rationale (which makes about as much sense as a wooden nickle) then what the Dev's should do is get rid of bods, get rid of runics and just make normal sewing kits and normal hammers add val and barb kit intensities to items.

We can all stop insuring everying and people can have their 70's resist suit with MR 18 and their 50% lightning weapons.

If you want it to be like test center, then fine - just say that.

Thats my problem. There is no joy in saving up money from hunting to buy a good piece of armor for a suit if you can make it like candy. The smith/tailor playstyle already has a been nearly obliterated because of artifacts that are far easier to acquire than the runics to create simliar items. Look at any suit of armor and 60% is artifacts. Throw in some crafted sleeves and legs and you are done.

This change will make high level gear available for very low cost.

For the non-crafters that want everything free - you got your wish.

How about I suggest that 120 scrolls start dropping from all paragons? Watch the uproar from the PvP guilds and such. OMG you are killing our playstyle. You are ruining our fun.

Well, giving 120 scrolls to every Tom **** and Harry that walks along kills champs.

I am ALL FOR the increase to runics to make them viable. However, I don't like the fact that they are giving 100% mods to the lowest end runics. YOU SHOULD HAVE TO GET A HIGH END RUNIC TO GET THE HIGHEST MODS.

That is the point. As it is, you can make 20% LRC and 140 luck items from spined kits.

Everyone will have max luck on their luck suits.

I really think for players like Connor that want everything handed to them - we should make a permenant test shard. Unlimited resources, unlimited runics and you can just 'set fencing 1200'. There are enough people that WANT to play like this - just make a shard for them.

For those of us that actually play for the acomplishment of the game and enjoy 'earning' something - let us play production shards.

I make alot of armor - but I also buy it too. When someone is willing to craft a fine piece of armor like an 80 resist item, or a 77 resist with MR 2 on it - I am willing to invest money in it. There is a pride and a diferentiator to having it - no doubt.

If you can simply make it with a modest amount of work and they are ubiquitious - then what is the point of playing a crafter?

If you think we need changes like this to kill all scripting - then fine. Make it like test center. If nothing has any value - there will be no script miners, gold farmers etc. That is basically your point.

Anyways, I'll burn up my runics - litter the game with Theo armor and items and then give up crafting. There is no point in doing the bods to get runics because in 2-3 months - this game will be so flooded with high end armor that never decays - there will be no point in crafting anymore stuff.

I'll leave bods to the scripters. It won't be worth the effort anymore.

You all want test center to come to your shard? It is nearly here. Doom arties worth pennies, armor worth pennies, weapons worth pennies etc. UO is now becoming test center.

The vast majority have felt this way since after the first couple months they introduced them. I sympathize with those who turn in bod's legitimately but the system is a big waste to most of the UO population. I'm sure I"m not alone when I feel that 90% of the current outrageously priced runic weapon/armor in the game are the result of scripting or duping and don't feel this change to be a bad one.

But it's not like EVERY tiem you use a spined runic you're getting 100% is it?

I mean, if there's a 1 in 200,000 chance (or whatever the chances are) that I could create and awesome piece of armour from a spined runic kit, then I'm all for it! Gives me a great reason to use them, and adds some value to things that were pretty much a throw away item to a lot of people before now.

I'm all for the changes, knowing that the chance of getting 100% on a spined is a LOT less likely than using a barbed (which I'll probably never have =P), but there's still a chance! It's all a gamble really, isnt it =D

There is nothing worth working for in UO anymore. Skill-gone, Housing-gone (some may want a keep or castle I had both and hated both) powerscrolls-gone (how many are farmed everyday?) doom arties- gone. The only shard this could do any good for is siege (no insurance for the trammie folk). If I wanted to play test I would play test, and over the years I have noticed more and more of test filtering out to production shards. all the gimmie, gimmie peeps ruining the game.

the blind may say "but it helps new players get the gear they need" well that new player is never in his/her UO career going to get that feeling of saving for and getting their first small marble/house, their weapon, their armor, their skill, their ethys, exc, exc, the things most vets remember to this day and in some small way one of the things that made us love this game will become the non factor to the newbie.

Some of the runic changes are good. the timer (still better than the 6hr timer of the past), The chance of getting a colored bod, and Some of the runic buffs tho lower end from copper down should not give up to 100%.

*wonders if siege char is still viable*
