Ninjitsu and Parrying

Discussion in 'UHall' started by WhityJinn, Sep 22, 2010.

When I started on my ninja, I clawed at bears with a pair of tekagi, and gained in both fencing and parrying. So, I assumed that not only bushido, but ninjitsu too works with parrying and two-handed weapons. If it does not, and if you don`t get an additional bonus to parrying because of ninjitsu, what is the point of most ninja weapons (kama, tekagi, sari) being two-handed?
Does everyone gain parry, no matter wether they wear a shield or not?Or is it because I am a ninja and have use a ninja tool (tekagi)?

    _
Another question:At 100 Ninjitsu, will I be able to throw smoke bombs while using a two-handed weapon, without disarming first?

Yes every one can gain parry without a shield,

The fastest way to gain parry is using no shield at the sheep pens, with a fast weapon that isn't in your skill. (If your swords you would use a dagger for example).

Parry isn't exclusive to a shield. There is weapon Parry too.

If you plan to train parry without a shield, you need to stone off bushido first. With 0 bushido, a dagger, and no shield, you can 120 parry at the sheep pens in 6 hours. If you have bushido, you won't gain as quickly.

I've done it four times--three times on elves, one time on a human.

hm, thanks.with 80-100 dex and and 110 parry the chance to block with a shield is 32%, and 18% for weapons.

If it were true, mage weapons would provide no added defense in PvP. It may be that this is only common knowledge to folks who have PvP'd, though, so I don't fault ya. ;)

you're confusing chance of defense with parry
    they're two separate things

So holding a spell book and holding a mage weapon will give a mage the exact same defense chance, provided they have 45 dci? Unless the mage has wrestling, that's simply not the case.

So this doesn't hold true anymore?
    (One handed weapon without shield)
    New = (Parrying * 10) * (Bushido * 10) / 48000 (Add 5% if Parrying or Bushido skill is 100 or above)
    Legacy = (Parrying * 10) / 80 (Add 5% if Parrying skill if 100 or above)
% Chance = Whichever is highest of the New and the Legacy formula.

I think you are missing the last line of the calculations where it says
"Whichever is highest of the New and the Legacy formula"

If you just went off the new formula yes it would be zero chance.
But since they also kept the legacy formula and pick whichever is higher, than I believe you might be mistaken. Unless they did away with this legacy formula option sometime and I missed it.

Mervyn is wrong, you most certainly can parry with a 1 or 2 handed weapon without bushido.

No... actually you can. And Bushido isn't necessary. It only helps at higher levels of skill. 20% chance to parry with a weapon (1 or 2 handed) with only 120 Parry, but if you equip a shield it negates that 20% and gives you 35% chance with the shield only... you can't add the two %'s together.

Why do I have to repeat my questions several times?
At 100 Ninjitsu, will I be able to throw smoke bombs while using a two-handed weapon, without disarming first?

Parry skill is older than Bushido skill, Parry works without Bushido with shields and with one and two handed weapons, the only difference is the percentage of parry succes. Bushido skill on the other hand works badly using a shield its intended to be used with weapons. And remember that you need 80 + Dexterity to have no succes penalty.

Because one misconception or inaccurate answer to your first question drives everyone else mad and derails your post.

But yes throw away on smoke bombs while holding a two handed weapon with gm ninja.

You cannot "parry" with a weapon unless you have bushido, you can block things though, this is checked against your weapon skill, defense chance increase is linked to this ability to block

No, it checks your parry skill. If it did not, it would not be possible to gain parry with a weapon, no shield, and bushido locked at 0.

At 120 parry and 0 bushido, with 80 dex, you have a 20% chance to 'parry' something when holding a 1 handed weapon, and only a one handed weapon.

You can type in bold all you want, you're still wrong.

    "only a one handed weapon."

and whats the case with 2-handed weapons?

Someone posted the link to the stratics page. It has the current formula and a calculator. You should probably just go there to get your answer.

actually you're right, but it's like half the chance

Lynk, I still don`t understand why you said "only 1 handed weapon".

The chance to parry with 100 parrying and 0 bushido is the same for one-handed and two-handed weapons, according to the calculator.

I believe he said "one handed and only a one handed" to emphasize he was not holding a shield.

Two handed weapons parry as well.
