ive seen alot of people asking for extra houses . many of us play multiple shards and realy would like some kind of storage other than our measily 125 item bank. with todays focus on items, you can hardly base your operations out of a bank . also we could really use a safe place to transfer goods from one char to annother.

while allowing extra houses may create a problem for new players finding space , why cant we rent a room at an inn ?

you could make it an option on the innkeepers menues .
a virtual room with some limited storage tied to an account . if you can work the coding so we can set "friends" to the room that would be great.

now if this virtual room is suppose to replace our need for annother house its gotta be bigger than one bank box . maybe something similar to the secures in the smallest house. (or a little less)

like any real hotel , you'd have to pay a weekly / monthly rental fee or the inkeepers put your belongings out to the curb and change the locks. maybe allow folks to pay in advance (like buying up chivalry points) if they intend to be gone a while.

this would create a gold sink and allow folks to set up a base on multiple shards if they choose.

we'd have to toss this back and forth and come up with a figure that everyone considers "fair rent" . keep in mind we dont want to go too nuts with the price 'cause alot of newbies might want to rent a room till they can afford to buy their own house.

we already have inns in every town, we can already safely log out in one . seems ready made for a virtual rental property ... if you devs can put your heads together and work the coding , im sure many homeless players would appreciate it.

i know most folks would want to decorate and show off a house , but if thats too much to code perhapse a virtual room would be better than no room .
that would also be an incentive to get your own effin house. [IMG]

thank you all for reading this . any feedback would be apreciated .
how bad do you peeps want storage ? speak up.

One thing I would like to point out about gold sinks. For most players there is already a great gold sink that is working perfectly at pulling out as much gold as they can part with. It's called the Luna mall. A "sink", if one is needed, is really only needed to offer the people in the deep end of the economy a way to dispose of excess cash.

I do keep worrying about the sort of posts we see around here for lost boats (since people already use them for less-than-safe added storage). However it is an interesting idea and a pay-in-advance scheme is a possible way around it. I don't think I would use it myself, but perhaps there are others who live in that niche between bank boxes and houses?

As a roleplayer, this possibility would be a dream come true.

I wouldn't have to have characters that wouldn't live there, live out of my roleplay specific house! I would love to rent a room.

Here's another issue: There's probably not enough rooms to accomodate all the players on the shard. Would it be a first come first serve basis? Would I have to camp out at the inn and wait for a room to open up, and then hang on for dear life?

    Might become kind of competitive!

    I'd love something like that.

Then, how about allowing players to rent a room in all those tiny NPC houses that nobody uses or even visits. To keep it in line with existing UO decor in NPC buildings, perhaps one could select a "template" design for that room. So you could get decor suited to a necromancer, or an artist. With selectable ad-ons too. So we wouldn't have very silly decor around the NPC buildings, but they would be lived in and look it.

Also, how about rejuvenating all the old trade guilds, like the tailor's and rangers ones. Allow players to join the guild if they have the relevant skill and rent say a bedroom where one exists or just a larger than normal container. Scale the storage up depending on the player's skill in that profession, so it's not so open to abuse.

Open up all the professions so that there were guilds for as many as possible. I'd so love to join a guild around the gypsies in Minoc with my gypsy RPers and be based in the tents *grins*

It would be good if the available storage was scaled depending if you had your own home on that account. Then while I'm able to use my main houses in Europa, my evil char who really shouldn't be seen in the town, could have a wee bit extra storage at the necromancers for example. But when I play Siege, I can get more storage because I don't have a house there.

  6. the inn's just allow you to 'insta' log sorta in a safe place.
it has never stored any data or item's as to who is 'sleeping' there.

it's just a building like anyother, it prolly has less lockdowns that a 10x10.
it would take alot to code that in i believe.

well thats the beauty of a virtual room . it doesnt exist except as added data storage deep in the mainframe . it wouldnt cause any player lag 'cause noone would see it . not like you have any house steps to step on. (loading all that data)

so they could rent out as many rooms as they like . nobody else has to know how many poeple actually "live" in any given inn.

from a roalplayer perspective it would be nice to rent out some of these unused ranger huts and gypsie tents ... but thats askin for some extra coding for a very limited amount of actual game space.
im talkin about one change to existing innkeepers that would potentially open up unlimited space .

the limits here would be how much data uo is willing to store. yes it would take some added memory capacity , but think of the draw for new players . cant afford a house yet ? thats ok we have a room for ya. it aint great , but hey it'll do till you get your own place.

perhapse even have scaleable storage , depending on how much "rent" you're willing / able to pay.

as far as the gold sink goes . i was refering to the total amount of gold that comes into a shard verses the total amount leaving . inflation happens because theres all this excess gold and not enough to spend it on .

they nerfed bags of sending trying to limit how much gold comes in through the various faucets. what ive tried proposing is a little drain here and there . if enough poeple use it thats alot of total gold leaving the economy.

heck, lets make it cheap enough that every week old newbie could afford a room . thats all going to add up to some serious drainage.

again that could come back to the scaleable storage . maybe all a newb can afford is chump change ? fine . all he gets is one strongbox worth of storage . if done per account, that would be a great asset to a new player. (give them some means of secure tranfers between characters)

if you can afford the penthouse , sweet !
maybe you'd get room to store your bods.(maybe)

  9. Love the idea from RP pov, and also from practical pov of playing on a non-main shard. Europe is our main but we play serious on DF and Atl as well, and such an option would help us greatly!
The scaleable idea is good regarding your gold sink ideas, newbie prices are peanuts for other players often... [IMG]

How about the ability to place a tent on another shard. Maybe a couple of choices in tents, with one or two secures.

Personally I'd like to see players be able to "rent" a room in their home... where someone can rent the room and store an agreed amount of stuff there.. (like vendors this would mean you could NOT custom that house nor change the funishings in that room once you rented it.... but I think that it would work if it was a contract like vendors but instead it placed a "room" which was similar to having a moving crate at the house..... where you can place x number of items... (though this would count towards the house owners lock downs.. and storage. But I think it's workable.

  12. I like the idea of making rentals available in towns. (They seem so empty - many of us can remember when they were full of players.) It would be nice to see the towns used again for something, even if they simply served as a "home base" for houseless players, or players needing extra room.

great idea, for those that have to have a second house.
make them non decoratable, no lockdowns , only the 2 secure chest's ...250 items.. ( no need to hord in a tent after all).
also you must refresh the tent every 3 days or it and the contents of the 2 secures would go 'poof'.
'renting/ buying' a tent could cost 1 million gold.

    sounds great, got my vote.

    *laughs*

But yeah this is a pretty neat idea. I started on Napa and my first smith is there...my bard...I have tons of stuff there still all sitting in bankboxes. My tamer....my first tamer EVER in this game....I would rent a room on napa so I could play there from time to time.

They should build apartment blocks. Not like some stupid modern day thing, but like a castle where you can rent a room.

There are alot of unused rooms and houses in old towns like Britain. The rent should depend of the size of the room/house.

    Could be something like
A small room, there will be 2 secures that can hold 125 items each and there will be 10 deco lockdowns + 1 vendor slot.
Price: 5000gp a week, kan be paid max 30 days in advance.

A medium room, there will be 3 secures that can hold 125 items each and there will be 15 deco lockdowns + 1 vendor slot.
Price: 7500gp a week, kan be paid max 30 days in advance.

A large room or small house, there will be 4 secures that can hold 125 items each and there will be 20 deco lockdowns + 2 vendor slots.
Price: 15k gp a week, kan be paid max 30 days in advance.

If a success, there could be placed a few houses more, 2 or 3 stores with 6-8 small rooms on each floor and a shared dining room.

I think thats too expensive. I think the idea behind it shouldnt be more storage for people who simply just need to stop hoarding and have a bloody clean out. Stop clogging up our servers!

It should be a stepping stone for new players who cant afford a house yet, who still need more then their bank box.

It should be the same as a house, only one house/unit per account, not both.

Clean out your account for gods sake!

im responding to freja because you mentioned rooms with lock downs . but this is to everyone in general.

let me rephrase this , im not talking about an actual room you can walk in and sit down , im thinking about a virtual room more allong the lines of a bank box (just a rather deep box , how deep depends on the rent you pay)

select "open room" from the innkeeper menu and a box would pop up like looking at your bank . except this box would be accessable by anyone on the account (and if they can work it , anyone you target as a friend) .

this would allow one character to put something in the box . you log out as usuall for an inn, then log in with annother character and claim the item from the box . (or leave something for a friend to pick up later)

i really hate dropping stuff on the inn floor and hope you can log in fast enough before someone else takes it.

the main goal im looking for is to have your house on your main shard and have a room on any other shards you're willing to pay for , or even simply as an extra storage option on your home shard.

it would also double as a starter home for those who cant afford a house. (an excellent marketing tool.) if you can get that frends thing worked in, even the poorest of players could get a roommate or two and be able to afford a small room at first.

also, many of us would like to try siege , but wont cause we dont want to give up our house on a prodo shard.
(we could really use the friend option there)
that way they can have some storage on siege in a relatively safe place as it would be in town, AND keep their house on their home shard .
'cause , lets face it , we dont want to totally abbandon the friends we made back home.

id say allow folks to rent on as many shards as they wish .
i dont think youll see many people wanting rooms across more than a couple shards . that would get expensive fast . but then again , if they are willing to pay, thats more gold for the sink isnt it ?

the newbies need it . we'd all like some form of extra storage , and it would solve the issue of where to base out of on multiple shards.

even if we cant decorate it.

I don't think it's to expensive but sure, the small ones could be made cheaper but then it would be without a vendor spot. Make it 2000 a week, even a newbie can make that easy. I had seen newbies on Siege make 100k in a week to place their first house.
I agree it should count as a house, they can't have both a house and a room on the shard but a house on a different shard should not be a problem.

To complicated I think, I rather saw a post system, where you can send items to your other char, a friend or a customer.

this would allow one character to put something in the box . you log out as usuall for an inn, then log in with annother character and claim the item from the box . (or leave something for a friend to pick up later)

Again a post system would be better and more secure.

It sounds more like rent of an extra bankbox you can access with all your chars and with maybe 5 tokens you can give to friends. If a friend use his token from his bankbox, he can open your extra bankbox.
You would need a way to delete all tokens and get a new set.

We do need something like this on Siege, but I won't call it a room but a shared bankbox.

I think the newbies would love my idea for rooms more, when it will give them a place to call "Home" and they will meet other renters, who live in the Inn or close to the Inn.
And they can decorate it. [IMG]

no no sorry but your missing my point .
this wouldnt be an actual house . no need to take up game space and could store anything you need . i dont think it should take the place of a house at all .

and jahira ... your words sadden my inner packrat [IMG] . what harm would there be in storing some more items ? this game had gotten very item intensive.
gotta have so many things now days just to funtion ...

well my only problem with that is you have what ? maybe 4 to 6 rooms in an inn ? these are going to get snapped up very quickly . what im proposing is a virtual room that takes no game space . so there could be almost unlimited rooms ... boxes .. posts .. whatever you want to call them.

(as i said before , only limited by how much data uo is willing to store)

    ------------
    edit :
i called them rooms because im envisioning these boxes might hold up to 1000 items for the upper cost "rooms".

im sorry if i assumed others were thinking the same thing.

ok im gettin a little jumpy i guess . its quite late for me here . perhapse ill get some sleep and pick this up again later ... again im sorry if i wasnt clear enough.
